COATS
Mrs. Eva Mae Cook Coats of Winston-Salem Rehabilitation Healthcare Center passed away Sunday at the center. She was born in Davie County and had lived in Winston-Salem for some 60 years. She was the daughter of the late Miller Tinsley and Anna Bell Jones Tinsley. She was a member of Gethsemane Hope Baptist Church where she worked faithfully until her health failed. Survivors include a devoted son, Arthur Richmond and devoted daughter-in-law, Nancy Richmond of Winston-Salem; five grandc hildren, Thomas Richmond, Sherman Richmond, Lydonna Oglesby and Aultrice Richmond all of Winston-Salem and Gyda Oaks of High Point; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Imes (Everette); and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gethsemane Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest McLaruin officiating. Burial will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will assemble and leave from the home of the son, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Richmond, 111 Apt. B Williamsburg Court enroute to the church at noon. JOHNSON-HOWARD-ROBINSON HOME OF MEMORY is in charge of all services and arrangements.

COPE
ADVANCE -- Mrs. Ruby Lee Zimmerman Cope, 77, of Sam Cope Road died late Sunday night at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elbaville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Wallace and the Rev. Harold Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 Tuesday evening. They request memorials be considered for the Elbaville United Methodist Church Building Repair Fund, 2595 N.C. Highway 801 S., Advance, NC 27006. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the services. Mrs. Cope was born in Davie County April 4, 1923, to the late Jess and Minnie Waller Zimmerman and was retired with 15 years of service from Lexington Furniture Co. She had been a lifelong member of Elbaville United Methodist Church where she had served as a church trustee, served on the church mission board, and president of Senior Adult Sunday school class. She was also a member of Elbaville Seniors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Junie Cope, in 1989; a sister, Bea Purdy; and three brothers, Louie Zimmerman, Floyd Zimmerman and Thomas Zimmerman. Mrs. Cope will be remembered as a very faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister to many. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Snyder of Yorktown, Va., and Sandy Aasland of Hampton, Va.; three sons, Bobby Garfield Cope of Georgetown, Del., James Lee Cope of Walnut Cove and Samuel Eugene Cope of Hollywood, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Roche of Bermuda Run and Edyth Whelan of Maryland.

COX
Mrs. Shirley Coopper Cox, 69, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Cox was born in Sennett, N.Y. , to the late Hubert William and Gertrude Derbyshire Coopper. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Fredrick William Cox; a daughter, Jodi Mae Cox; two brothers, Eric and Roderick Coopper; a sister, Joan Fleury ; and a son-in-law, Mike Mayo. Survivors include five children, Bonnie Cox and her son Chadd of Winston-Salem, Lorrie Mayo and her son, Michael of Tobaccoville, Jeffrey Cox and wife, Susan and their daughter, Nicole of Pfafftown, Pastor Eric Cox and wife, Shellee and their children, Joel, Rachael, Josh and Mike of Woodward, Okla. , and Cindy Cox of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Gertrude Kellar of Pfafftown and Eunice Renfro of Endicott, N.Y. , and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately after the service and at other times at 2325 Amelia Road, Pfafftown, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 1100-C Suite 201, South Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103-3200 or the American Lung Asso ciation, 3409 D. W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, NC 27407.

CROMER
KING -- Mary Viola Southern Cromer, 90, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Village Care of King. She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Stokes County to Wyatt ''Pete'' and Hessie Bennett Southern. Viola had been a member of First Christian Church in King since 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryson Cromer; three sons, Billy, Oneil and Buddy Cromer; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Diane and Christina Marlene. She is survived by nine loving children, Jack Cromer of Walnut Cove, Bobby (Becky) Cromer, Linda (Buck) Kiser and Nancy Brintle of Pilot Mountain, Carolyn Lawson of Pinnacle, Betty (Tony) Knott of Mount Airy, Glenn (Chris) Cromer and Jerry (Robyn) Cromer of King and Sally (Bill) Williams of Tobaccoville; two other daughters-in-law, Elva and Linda Mae Cromer; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ola Brown, Nancy Opal Dobbins, Lucille Throckmorton and Olene Booth all of Winston-Salem; a brother, Dennis (D.O.) Southern of Clemmons; and two special friends, Elizabeth Ferguson and Paula Hanson. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Slate Funeral Home in King , with the Rev. Jim Saul and Bill Truitt, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountainview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home and other times at the home of a son, Jerry Cromer on Glenn Ave., King. Memorials may be made to the Resident's Council of Village Care, P.O. Box 1750, King, NC 27021.

EADS
KING -- Mrs. Barbara Ann Peoples Eads, 67, formerly of Winston-Salem went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus on Monday, Oct. 2, 2000. She was born in Forsyth County July 18, 1933, to William Howard and Mildred Naomi Peoples. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford Wayne Eads; her father; a sister, Nancy Peoples; and a grandson, Eric Thomas Hines. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Clemmons. Surviving are her mother of Winston-Salem; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Donna and Larry Davis of King, Debbie and Timothy Brewer of Winston-Salem and Vickie and Charlie Jones Jr. of King; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steve and Debbie Eads of King, Wayne and Karen Eads of Rouses Point, N.Y., and Stan Eads of Lexington; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, David Peoples of Winston-Salem; and two sisters, Sylvia Beam of Texas and Brenda Motsinger of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Mike K. Duffield and the Rev. James C. Newsome Jr. officiating. A graveside service will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pine Hill Friends Meeting Church Cemetery, Ararat. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

ELLER
John DeWalden Eller, Jr. died Oct. 1, 2000. He was born Oct. 2, 1929 and was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem. His parents, who are deceased were John DeWalden Eller Sr. and Gertrude Seely Eller. His paternal grandfather, Adolphus Hill Eller , was a founder of the Trust Department of Wachovia Bank. His maternal grandfather, Fred Loring Seely, built the Grove Park Inn in Asheville for his great-grandfather, Edwin Wiley Grove. He was married to Aurelia Gray Eller Aug. 14, 1954 to whom he was a devoted husband for 46 years. He was a lifelong member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church and also regularly attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach, Fla. and the Roaring Gap Church in Roaring Gap. Before retirement from being a practicing attorney, he was a partner in the firm Blackwell, Blackwell, Canady and Eller. He was a member of the Forsyth County Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association. He attended Summit School where he received the Sportsmanship Award. He attended Reynolds High School and he graduated from Woodberry Forest School in 1947, where he earned a letter on the track team. He graduated from Princeton University with a BA degree in 1951, where he was a member of the golf team. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed with the medical corps in Germany. He attended the School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and an editor of the Law Review . He graduated in 1957 with the degree of juris doctor with honors. He was a member and president of Twin City Kiwanis Club and served as lieutenant governor of the Carolina district of Kiwanis International. As a board member of the Arts and Crafts Association, he wrote the organization's by laws ; the association later became the Sawtooth Center for Visual Design. He was a member and chairman of the Board of Goodwill Industries. He served many years on the Board of the Winston-Salem State University Foundation. He excelled as a golfer and was a student of the tradition and ethics of golf. He was a member of Old Town Club, winning the golf championship nine years, Roaring Gap Club, winning the golf championship 16 years, John's Island Club in Vero Beach, Fla. winning the seniors golf championship, Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey, The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers in Muirfield, Scotland and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club in Saint Andrews, Scotland. He competed in the British amateur championship for seven years. He is survived by his devoted wife; a son, John DeWalden Eller III and his wife, Andrea Lovell Eller of Clemmons; two daughters, Aurelia Eller Cathey and her husband, Joel Lee Cathey of Keysville, Va. and Mary Louise Eller Ball and her husband, James Arthur B all of New York, N.Y.; four grandchildren, John DeWalden Eller IV, James Gray Eller, Mark Glenn Cathey and Sharon Elaine Cathey; a brother, James Carlton Eller and his wife, Doris McMillan Eller of Winston-Salem and an extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Eller Patterson. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem led by the Rev. Donald P. Goodheart, Rector. The family will receive friends at the church assembly hall after the service. Burial will be in the Roaring Gap Church Cemetery in Roaring Gap at 4 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Stan McGraw of Christ Church, Sparta officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 520 Summit St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1866, Sparta, NC 28675 or to Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Ave., Vero Beach, Fla. 32960 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

GWYNN
CLEMMONS -- Mr. Marvin ''Leon'' Gwynn, 55, died early Monday morning, Oct. 2, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1945, in Forsyth County to Mack and Anne Holloway Gwynn. Mr. Gwynn was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church and was employed with AMP Inc. Surviving are his wife, Beverly Howard Gwynn of the home; four children, Lee and Brian Gwynn of the home, Traci Pendleton and husband Greg of Lewisville and Keith Gwynn and wife Robin of Asheboro; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Mallory and Lindsay Gwynn, Shelby and April Pendleton. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel by the Rev. Ray Burke and the Rev. Jon Peterson. The family will receive friends following the service. The Kinderton Chapel is in Advance on Highway 158 across from Bermuda Run, telephone 940-5555 or toll-free (888) 940-8511. From I-40 take the Highway 801 exit to Advance, turn left on Highway 158 E.; the chapel is one mile on the left in the Kinderton Development.

ARARAT, Va. -- Mrs. Bertie Mae Ayers Harold, 67, died Sunday. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Howell Funeral Home in Mount Airy.

HORTON
Mrs. Catherine Angel Horton, 86, of Winston-Salem died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Rockingham County to the late James Wright and Ora Carruthers Angel. Mrs. Horton was a member of Central Terrace United Methodist Church for 55 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bishop Horton. Surviving are a son, Kenneth Wayne Horton and wife Susan L. of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Gail H. Morgan and husband Tim L. of Wintson-Salem; two grandchildren, Samuel H. Morgan and wife Emily P. and Anna Marie Morgan; and a great-grandson, Jake Bishop Morgan. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery with Rev. David Greene officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Terrace United Methodist Church, 3 East Devonshire, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.

GREENSBORO -- Rosevelt ''Slim'' Ingram, 57, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Beacon Place after a long illness. Surviving are his wife, Gloria Ingram and the family dog, T-Bear of the home; three daughters, Vilise Sides of Walkertown, Rosoline Ingram and Shaneta Ingram of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Aragatha Smith, Miss Dorothy Ingram and Mrs. Mary Lynch and a brother, Tyson Ingram all of Winston-Salem; and a host of other family members and friends. A service will be 2 p.m. Oct. 4, 2000, at Hospice, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday evening, Oct. 3, 2000, at the home, 204 Gant Street. Memorial Funeral Chapel is serving the family.
