PALM HARBOUR, Fla. -- Laura A. Park, 50, of Palm Harbour, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Florida in 1988 from Silver Springs, Md. She was a fiber artist. She was a member of St. Alfred Episcopal Church in Palm Harbour and The Quilters Crossing, Windlasses of Dunedin. Survivors include her husband, Richard F. Park; one sister, Linda A. Oglesby of Durham; several nieces and nephews; and her true friend, Rosella Smith Inmann of Palm Harbour. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Alfred Episcopal Church with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Richard C. Lindsey, Rector. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. at Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mocksville on Thursday, Sept. 7., conducted by the Rev. Tim Starbuck. Eaton Funeral Service in Mocksville is serving the loal family of Mrs. Park.
QUESSENBERRY
WEST JEFFERSON -- Mr. H.D. Quessenberry, 86, of West Jefferson died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson. He was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Floyd County, Va., to Peery and Ola Quessenberry. His wife, Jean Reeves Quessenberry, preceded him in death. He was a member of West Jefferson United Methodist Church. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1934 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army as a captain in infantry and he was a World War II veteran, where he served in Germany, Italy and France. He worked for the Surry County Public School System as a teacher. During the 1940s, Mr. Quessenberry served as the Ashe County Agricultural Extension Agent. During the 1950s he served as a Livestock Specialist in Raleigh with the N.C. Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1976. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at West Jefferson United Methodist Church by the Rev. Hayward Morrison and the Rev. A.B. Weaver. Interment will follow in Cranberry Cemetery in Laurel Springs. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, before the service at West Jefferson United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to West Jefferson United Methodist Church, P.O. Survivors include one son, Frank Quessenberry of West Jefferson; three daughters, Barbara Derman of East Lansing, Mich., Betsy Griffin of Joplin, Mo., and Marion Hinson of Marshville; and five grandchildren. RISH
Mrs. Virginia Louise Stewart Rish, 85, of 436 E. Devonshire St., died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Winston-Salem to John William and Emma Manning Stewart. Mrs. Rish was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School , Bible School and was involved with the Home Bound Program. She was very dedicated to her church family and loved working with the children of the church. She was preceded in death by her son, William Kent Rish. Survivors include a number of cousins including, Randall Manning, Betty Hewitt, Nancy Hayes, Mary Ellen Ebert, Clay and Joe Manning, Ann Motsinger, and Allen Manning. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel by the Rev. Barry Nelson and Dr. Gerald Smith. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Ruth Hartman Stewart, 85, of Winston-Salem, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Forsyth County to George Emanuel and Nellie Tesh Hartman. Mrs. Stewart was a member of Friedland Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William ''Bill'' Wesley Stewart; and seven brothers and sisters, Elgin, Gilbert, and Oliver Hartman, Cleo Fishel, Mabel Hall, Alice Smith, and Helen Hartman. Surviving are three children, Hilda (John) Vestal of Clemmons, Lynn (Allen) Yoder of Winston-Salem, and George Wesley (Kay) Stewart of High Point; four grandchildren, Alina Hall, Eric Stewart, and Melissa and Stewart Cox; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one brother, G. Frank Hartman; one sister, Grace Tesh Evans; and one sister-in-law, Bertha S. Hiatt. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Friedland Moravian Church by Dr. Steve Craver. LEWISVILLE -- Blanche Crews Craft Williams, 87, of Lewisville was called home by her beloved Lord and Saviour on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000. She was born Jan. 16, 1913, to T.A. and Sue Styers Craft. She had been in declining health for several years and was preceded in death by her husband, William Hollingsworth ''Hollie'' Williams Sr.; and sisters, Lucille Holleman, Millie Moser, Edna Craft, Elma Doss, and Lucy and Margaret Sheets; and brothers, Clem, Joseph, Thomas, and Roy Craft. Surviving are one sister, Alberta Parker of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Catherine Williams Floyd of Lewisville; a son, William H. ''Bill'' Williams Jr. of Lewisville; granddaughters, Christine (Pat) Shehan of Clemmons, Charlene (Michael) Craver of Lexington, Marsha Floyd of Winston-Salem, Michelle Hege of Clemmons, Amber Williams of Charlotte, and Amanda Williams of Syracuse, N.Y.; a grandson, Josh Shehan; great-grandchildren, Ashley Royall, Hollie Bennett, Kayla Bennett, Mary Ann Craver, and Michael John Craver; a very special friend, Peggy Jones; and a multitude of nephews and nieces. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker and for many years was very active in the Lewisville community in the Lewisville Homemakers Club, Lewisville Garden Club, and the Lewisville Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. She was well-known for her outstanding sewing, baking, and gardening skills. Her favorite activity in addition to her family, involved her lifelong membership at Lewisville Baptist Church, where she was a faithful nursery worker and children's Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years and was involved in many groups within the church family. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5 by the Rev. Jeff Priest and Dr. Joe Coltrane at Lewisville Baptist Church, with burial following the service. She will be buried in the church cemetery among her family. Pallbearers will be Charles Hauser and Joe Roselli of Lewisville and nephews Perry Craft of Lewisville, Reid Alan Craft of Raleigh, and Nick and Joseph Williams of Wilmington, Del. Mrs. Eulalia Allen, 73, of 1035 E. 17th St. , our dearly beloved mother, grandmother and sister , passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000. She was born Dec. 14, 1926, to the late John and Mary McCoy. She was married to the late John H. Allen. She was preceded in death by her son, Harold M. Allen; granddaughter Charlette McCullough; and a brother, John L. McCoy. Survivors include six daughters, Yvonne McGrady, Linda Wright (Bruce), Millicent Little (Jamal), Robbin Campbell (Chart), Jacqueline Allen and Michelle Jones; four sons, John Allen Jr. (Gail) of Concord, Michael Allen (Tammy) of California, Christopher Allen (Leah) and Tomorris Allen; a sister, Thelma Johnson (Benjamin) of Rural Hall; a brother, Tim McCoy (Alverta) of Adelphi, Md.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a goddaughter, Marilyn Springs; a close friend, Cora Lee Carter; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Union Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Konnie G. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot of Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Hazel Lusetta Johnson Braswell, 76, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2000. She was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Winston-Salem to the late Otis Wesley Johnson Sr. and Levora Carlyle Johnson. She was a longtime member of Konnoak Baptist Church. She was a member of the 822nd Military Police Auxiliary and was the author of many Christian poems. She was preceded in death by a son, Walker N. Braswell Jr. in 1992. She is survived by her husband, Walker N. Braswell Sr. of the home; a sister, Omeda J. Brewer of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Otis W. Johnson Jr. of Arcadia and Donald Edward Johnson of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Vogler & Son's Main Street Chapel , with Dr. Gary McCollough and Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. KING -- Mary Viola Southern Cromer, 90, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Village Care of King. She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Stokes County to Wyatt ''Pete'' and Hessie Bennett Southern. Viola had been a member of First Christian Church in King since 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryson Cromer; three sons, Billy, Oneil and Buddy Cromer; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Diane and Christina Marlene. She is survived by nine loving children, Jack Cromer of Walnut Cove, Bobby (Becky) Cromer, Linda (Buck) Kiser and Nancy Brintle of Pilot Mountain, Carolyn Lawson of Pinnacle, Betty (Tony) Knott of Mount Airy, Glenn (Chris) Cromer and Jerry (Robyn) Cromer of King and Sally (Bill) Williams of Tobaccoville; two other daughters-in-law, Elva and Linda Mae Cromer; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ila Brown, Nancy Opal Dobbins, Lucille Throckmorton and Olene Booth all of Winston-Salem; a brother, Dennis (D.O.) Southern of Clemmons; and two special friends, Elizabeth Ferguson and Paula Hanson. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Slate Funeral Home in King , with the Rev. Mr. Amos Edward Feaster was born April 6, 1941, in Forsyth County to the late Rev. John C. and Mary S. Feaster. He departed this life Oct. 2, 2000, at his home, 402 E. 16th St. after a brief illness. Amos attended the public school system of Forsyth County and furthered his education at North Carolina A&T State University. He was of the Baptist faith and held many positions in the secular community. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He was married to Vivian Sharpe Feaster for 21 years. He worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in the blending department as a computer technician with 40 years of service. Amos leaves to cherish his memory a loving and dedicated wife, Vivian; three children, Lisa Ann Adams of Winston-Salem, Wanda (James) Robinson of Rocky Mount and Vickie (Anthony) Newbold; his loving mother, Mary S. Feaster, who is hospitalized in Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, Abrie Newbold, Michael Adams, James Jr. and Terrence Robinson; two brothers, Willie Feaster of Long Island, N.Y. and Larry (Beverly) Feaster of Winston-Salem; five sisters, Mary M. (the Rev. Willie) Loyd, Valeria and Essex Glover of Winston-Salem, Mary Ann Reese of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rebecca Manis of Durham and Thelma Williams of Baltimore, Md.; two aunts, Marie Clyburn of Winston-Salem and Inez Stringfellow of Chester, S.C.; a faithful sister-in-law, Jean Bailey Feaster; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. WALNUT COVE -- Mrs. Maxie Johnson Ferguson, 88, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Village Care of King. She was born in Stokes County to the late Zephra and Minnie Meadows Johnson. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Quaker Gap Baptist Church and worked as an inspector at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Brook Cove Plant for 17 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Homer Ferguson in 1991; a sister, Cleo J. Redding; and four brothers, Dowell, Denson, Carlis and Moir Johnson. Survivors include her brother, Clyde Johnson of King; a special brother-in-law, Elmore Redding of Germanton; and a few special nephews and nieces. A 3 p.m. funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Quaker Gap Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the church and other times at the home of Jim and Peggy Tedder.
