DWIGGINS
Mr. Albert H. Dwiggins, 71, of Old Hollow Road, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, died on July 4, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after a brief but courageous battle against cancer. He was born in King on Oct. 8, 1928, the son of the late Joel Robert Shell Dwiggins and Martha Ellen Webster Dwiggins. Mr. Dwiggins was a very active and faithful member of Baux Mountain Baptist Church. He graduated from King High School in 1946. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict, and received an honorable discharge in 1955. He retired from AT&T in 1989 after 37 years of service. He spent the last years of his life serving God and helping his fellow man. He was married to Emma Blanche Arnder in 1952 and has shared his life with her and has been devoted to her for the past 47 years. Also surviving are a daughter, Deborah Lynn Lawson, and husband Kenneth of Westfield; three grandchildren, Kimberly, Amanda and Andrew; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth; a brother, Johnny Holman Dwiggins, and wife Jean Cox Dwiggins of Rural Hall; and a nephew, John Dwiggins. Mr. Dwiggins was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Dwiggins. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at Baux Mountain Baptist Church in Germanton by the Rev. Ernest E. Hutchings. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The Dwiggins family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall. GREER
Mr. Vincent Harold Greer was born April 28, 1915, in Watauga County to Belle McGuire Greer and Edgar Orville Greer. Vincent died July 4, 2000, at Springwood Care Center, Winston-Salem. He spent his early life in Boone, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, Pacific area, after which he worked for the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., and Maryland. He retired from the U.S. Census Bureau. Vincent came to Winston-Salem, due to failing health, in January 1995 to be near family. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred T. Greer of Deep Gap/Boone; and a sister, Jessie Greer Barrineau of Charleston, S.C. He is survived by a brother, James E. Greer (Barbara) of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a sister, Helen Greer Lominac (Harold) of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Burial, at Mr. Greer's request, will be 11 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Salisbury on Friday, July 9, 2000, with a graveside service. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2000, at Vogler Reynolda Road Chapel. HENDERSON
RALEIGH -- Buford Terrill Henderson II (B.T.), 71, of Raleigh died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Rex Hospital. He was born in North Wilkesboro on Nov. 29, 1928. He attended Reynolds High School, Wake Forest College and Wake Forest School of Law. After settling in Raleigh, he became an attorney with Young, Moore and Henderson Law Firm. B.T. was active in many church and civic activities, serving as a deacon and an elder at White Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a member of the American Bar Association. He was a past president of Raleigh Jaycees, the Wake County Bar Association and the United Way of Wake County. B.T. was preceded in death by his father, B.T. Henderson; his mother, Angie Dancy Henderson; and sisters Sue Henderson Johnson and Jan Henderson Forcum. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betsy Pool Henderson; children Anne M. Henderson, Bettie H. Goodwin, B. Terry Henderson and his wife Margaret and Nancy H. Hurd and her husband Chris; nine grandchildren; his stepmother, Kate M. Henderson; and sisters Kay H. Collare and Cynthia Henderson. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. Miss Tina Leigh Hopkins, 43, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 30, 1956, in Forsyth County to Kathleen Barrow and H. Gordon Hopkins. Miss Hopkins attended the Winston-Salem Enrichment Center. Surviving are her parents, Kathleen Barrow Hopkins and H. Gordon Hopkins of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Patsy Aaron of Winston-Salem and Peggy Bayne (husband Russell) of Hickory; a brother, Rex. G. Hopkins; three nieces, Dana Aaron, Jill Aaron and Shanna Hopkins; and two nephews, Michael Hopkins and Travis Hopkins. A private graveside service will be held on Friday. LEXINGTON -- Mrs. Joyce Lillian Humphries, 65, of Lexington died July 5, 2000, at her residence. Survivors include a son, Ethan Lee of Lexington; a daughter, Tonya Robinson of Southmont; two granddaughters, Melissa L. Daniel of Winston-Salem and Cassie Robinson of Southmont; her mother, Amalia Berrier of Lexington; a sister, Debra Williamson of Winston-Salem; and three brothers, Vernie F. Berrier of Stanleyville, and Alfred F. Berrier and David Berrier, both of Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held by John Castillo Sr. at 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 5980 Kinney Road, Winston-Salem. JACKSON
DOBSON -- Mr. Jonathan Alan Jackson, 22, of 926 Kapps Mill Road died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at his home after an extended battle with cancer. Jonathan was born Feb. 6, 1978, in Louisville, Ky., to William A. and Jacqueline Burchette Jackson. He was a graduate of Elkin High School and attended Appalachian State University and Wake Technical College. He was a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his parents, Bill and Jackie Jackson of the home; a sister, April Jackson of Chapel Hill; maternal grandparents, Jack and Carolyn Burchette of Hallsboro; paternal grandfather, W.R. Jackson of Council; and aunts and uncles Bunnie and Debra Goldston of Lake Waccamaw, Kelly and Michelle Hoffman of Whiteville, Donnie and Darlene Jackson of Council and David and Kathy Jackson of Greenville, S.C. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at the Kapps Mill water fall by the Rev. Bob Veazey and the Rev. Mrs. Martha Taylor Owens, 68, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, July 4, 2000, at her residence. She was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Yadkin County to Charles Nathan and Iris Carter Taylor. Mrs. Owens was a wife and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Daniel Owens, in 1987. Surviving are a daughter, Susan Icenhower and husband Steven of Lexington; a grandson, Timothy Icenhower; a brother, Odell Taylor and wife Juanita of East Bend; a niece, Robin Inabinet; and two nephews, Randy and David Taylor. A private family gathering will be held. The family would like to thank Mrs. Owens' neighbors and friends for their love and support. PLUMMER
Mr. Calvin Eugene Plummer, 73, of 1212 Ziglar Road died Monday evening at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a long illness. He was born in Catawba County on Nov. 19, 1926, to Wade Hill Plummer and Verdie Poole Plummer. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Plummer was a devoted member of New Hope United Methodist Church , where he served on several church boards and committees. He retired from Fairchild Industrial Products Co. in 1990 as director of quality control following 25 years of service. Preceding Mr. Plummer in death were his son, Michael, on May 1, 2000; two sisters, Alma Wilkinson and Sue Overcash; and a brother, Joe Plummer. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Bell Plummer, to whom he married on July 11, 1959; his daughter, Dianne P. Orrell and husband Frank of Advance; a daughter-in-law, Marianne Plummer of Yadkinville; four grandchildren, Jinny Plummer of Yadkinville, Chris Duggins of Independence, Ky., Tanya Bryan of Winston-Salem and Anthony Duggins of Walnut Cove; two great-grandchildren, Megan Bryan and Austin Duggins; a brother, Billy D. Plummer of Concord; and a sister, Hazel Cranford of Forest Park, Ga. The funeral service will be at New Hope United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. conducted by the Rev. William C. Currie. Mrs. Mildred Walls Truesdell, 78, of 3241 Cumberland Road passed away Monday, July 3, 2000, at Meadowbrook Terrace Nursing Home following a period of illness. She was a native and resident of Winston-Salem and was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College and received her master's degree from NC A&T State University. Mrs. Truesdell was a retired teacher from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system, was a member of the University Women and the Best Yet Flower Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lee Truesdell. She is survived by two daughters, Debborah T. (Wayne) Lindsay of Belews Creek and Shari T. (James) Walker of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, including a devoted grandchild, Janski N.T. Bradsher; a great-grandchild; an aunt, Curlie Walls; cousins Betty Bratton and James (Elizabeth) Walls, all of Winston-Salem; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at Saint Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. YADKINVILLE -- Mrs. Celia Mae York, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Hoots Memorial Hospital. She was born in Yadkin County on Feb. 24, 1911, to the late Mary Jane Adams. Mrs. York was a homemaker and a member of Shacktown Church of Christ. Mrs. York was married to Luther Clarence York for 60 years; he preceded her in death in 1988. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Annice Lou. She is survived by three sons, Jessie and Ray (Mary) York, all of Yadkinville, and Leo (Shirley) York of Winston-Salem; a sister, Delia Myers of Yadkinville; eight grandchildren, Tim York, Tammy York, Robert York, Wayne York and Ruth Ann Baity, all of Yadkinville, David York of Winston-Salem, Bob York of Charlotte and Pam Maggard of Palo Alto, Calif.; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at Reavis Funeral Home Yadkinville Chapel with Joe McCullum and Lawrence Warden officiating. Burial will be at Shacktown Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reavis Funeral Home Yadkinville Chapel and other times at the home of Ray York on Spillman Road.
