Koontz, Maxine Leonard
HIGH POINT - Mrs. Maxine Leonard Koontz of High Point died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born March 13, 1922, in Davidson County, the daughter of Joseph Shelly and Mary Clodfelter Leonard. Mrs. Koontz was a graduate of Lexington High School and earned a bachelor's of science degree from Catawba College. She was a teacher in Davidson County's Welcome High School. She was marriage to Douglas J. rod Koontz in 1945 and was the mother of three children. Her daughter, Mary Lorraine Koontz, died in infancy. Her sons are Kurt Douglas Koontz of High Point and Joseph J. rod Koontz of Winston-Salem. Her grandchildren are Jennifer Koontz Kafer (Mrs. Jeff Kafer) of Roxboro, Emily Koontz Nobles (Mrs. James Nobles) of South Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Douglas H. Koontz and her daughter-in-law, Beverly Koontz of High Point. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Kafer, Mary Louise Kafer and Olivia Kafer; and nine nieces and nephews. Mrs. Koontz spent her early years in Lexington. After her marriage, her homes were in Asheville and Winston-Salem. Wherever she and her husband made their home, they joined, enjoyed and were loyal to the church of their choice. Since 1954, they have been members of Centenary United Methodist Church, where in her early years, Mrs. Koontz worked with children in the Sunday school, was a member of adult Sunday school classes, was active in the United Methodist Women and was a life member. She served on the church official board. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Yarbrough officiating. There will be a private burial at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 26, 2004, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Memorial gifts may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Leonard Otis Lambert, 91, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy.
Little, Emily Angell
Mrs. Emily Angell Little of Winston-Salem died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at her home. She was born April 12, 1929, in Winston-Salem to Ernest Lafayette and Hazel Davenport Angell. She was a graduate of Reynolds High School and attended Greensboro College. She was a research assistant in the Department of Pharmacology at Bowman Gray School of Medicine for 31 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Maxwell Little; and a sister, Mrs. Tom (Lorna Angell) Chambers. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Bill (Ernestine) Ray of Winston-Salem; two nieces; and four nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Salem Cemetery by the Rev. June Foss. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 510 W. 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. The family will receive friends at the grave after the service. Arrangements are by Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel.
Lovelace, Emma E.
JONESVILLE - Mrs. Emma E. Lovelace, 82, of 103 Jonesville Blvd., Jonesville passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Emma was born in Surry County on Jan. 18, 1922, to Ebin Edwards and Alice Hedgecoe Edwards. She is survived by her husband, Jack Lovelace of the home; two children, Lois C. (Ben) Beeker of Jonesville and Phil (Scottie) Vanhoy of Elkin; four sisters, Ethel (Harold) Southard of Taylors, S.C., Kizzie Bullins of Dobson, Thelma Moser of Dobson and Bertha Montgomery of Pilot Mountain; a brother, John Edwards of Dobson; three grandchildren, Sammie (Thomas) Dameron of Jonesville, Jackie Clearly of Jonesville and Craig Vanhoy of North Wilkesboro; three great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Jonesville by the Rev. Richard Cardwell. Interment will follow at Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Jonesville. The Lovelace family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Oct. 26, at Johnson Funeral Home in Elkin.
Mangum Sr., Fred Love
Fred Love Mangum Sr., 72, of 121 Copperfield Place Court, Winston-Salem died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Mangum was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Anson County, a son of the late Walter Curtis Mangum and the late Lena Biggers. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a 1957 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Mangum was the retired president of Luwa Bahnson Inc., with nearly 20 years of service. He also was a member of Lions Club and Gideons. Mr. Mangum was a long-standing member of First Presbyterian Church, having served as both an elder and a deacon. He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred Mangum Jr. and Kenneth Mangum; and a brother, Walter Mangum. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn Allen Mangum, of the home; daughter Cynthia Mills and husband, Franklin, of Winston-Salem; brothers Jack Mangum of Indiana and Robert Mangum of Arizona; and three grandchildren, Forrest, Rachel and Tucker Mills. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Russell Ritchel Jr., Dr. Jeff White, the Rev. Donna McClellan and Mike Horne officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund. Vogler & Sons is in charge of the arrangements.

Marsh, Joyce Ann Long
KING - Joyce Ann Long Marsh, 48, of Trinity Church Road, formerly of Anniston, Ala., died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004. She was born June 18, 1956, in Forsyth County to Albert Wesley and Jo Ann Needham Long. She had been employed by the Cerebral Palsy Center in Anniston, Ala. Surviving are her husband, James Marsh of the home; a daughter, Pamela J. "Jamie" Smith of Fayetteville; a son, Scott Marsh of Macon, Ga.; a grandson, Austin Marsh; her parents, Albert Wesley and Jo Ann Needham Long; a brother, David (Melissa) Long; and a special niece, Rachel Long, all of King. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Tobaccoville, where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, with the Rev. Paul Norman officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Pfaff, Joseph Kent
Joseph Kent Pfaff, 84, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at the Oaks at Forsyth. Mr. Pfaff was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Forsyth County, a son of the late Byron Pfaff and the late Sudie Alma Pfaff. He was a retired mechanic with Piedmont Airlines. He was also an auctioneer and a member of the Rust & Dust Club. He was a longtime member of Pfafftown Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Fish Pfaff. A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Dr. Tom Everton officiating. Interment will be private. Vogler & Sons is in charge of arrangements.
