Redmond, Edgar Frazier
MOORESVILLE - Mr. Edgar Frazier Redmond, 84, formerly of Winston-Salem died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Mr. Redmond was born in Forsyth County on May 10, 1920, to Edgar Phillip and Ruby Frazier Redmond. Mr. Redmond had been a resident of The Haven at Highland Creek in Charlotte. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving three and a half years during World War II in the European and North African Theatres. Surviving are his wife of more than 63 years, Hallie Jarvis Redmond of Mooresville; a son, Edgar F. Redmond II and wife Patricia of Mooresville; two grandsons, Edgar F. Redmond III and wife Kimberly of Concord and Christopher R. Redmond of Mooresville; two great-grandsons, Edgar F. Redmond IV and Cooper R. Redmond, both of Concord; and two sisters, Jean R. Jones and husband Nelson of Atlanta, Ga., and Louise Redmond of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Forsyth Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mark Pitts officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 150 S. Church St., Mooresville, NC 28115.
Roediger, Richard Robinson
Mr. Richard Robinson Roediger Sr., 78, of Winston-Salem died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004. A service will be held at a later date. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.
Savell, Richard Kent
Richard Kent Savell, 59, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at his home. He was born Nov. 1, 1944, in Springfield, Mo., son of the late Carmon Arlington and Gwendolyn Johnson Savell. Mr. Savell served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville. Survivors include his wife, Bettye of the home; two daughters, Tracy Weeks and husband Glenn of Holly Springs, and Joy Savell and fiance Darren Workman of Concord; two brothers, Van (Shirley) Savell of Blythe, Calif., and Doug (Sue) Savell of Prattville, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh. The family will receive friends at the home of Glenn and Tracy Weeks following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.
Adams Sr., Howard Hampton "Sam"
Mr. Howard "Sam" Hampton Adams Sr., 79, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2004. He was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Yadkin County to the late Shirl Hampton and Blanche Caudle Adams. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 to 1947 in the 770th Railway Operation BN. Mr. Adams was owner of Howard H. Adams Well Drilling, 67 Exxon and Adams Automotive from which he retired in 1989. He was a member of Winston-Salem Friends Meeting, where he served as Sunday school superintendant. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Betty Brown Adams, and two brothers, Troy and David Adams, both of Yadkinville. He is survived by his sons, Jerry (Sandra) Adams of East Bend and Steve (Gail) Adams and Howard Jr. "Howie" (Janice) Adams, both of Pfafftown; four grandchildren, Andrea Mast of Charlotte, Ryan Adams of East Bend and Taylor and Savannah Adams of Pfafftown; five brothers, Harold (Jean) Adams of Ontario, Canada, Bobby "Mutt" (Betty) Adams and Ross (Jean) Adams, both of Pfafftown, Jack (Ann) Adams of East Bend and Mike (Dee) Adams of Kernersville; four sisters, Goldie Hamby of Boonville, Helen (Hank) Foster of Greenville, N.C., Peggy (Ray) Lambert of Pfafftown and Pernell (Cole) Hobson of Boonville; a sister-in-law, Judy Adams of Yadkinville; and a brother-in-law, Carl "Toot" (Mildred) Brown of East Bend. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Winston-Salem Friends Meeting on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday to lie in state. Burial will follow in the Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Aug. 4, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. Andrews, Floyd Clyde
GREENSBORO - Floyd Clyde Andrews, 72, of 4829 Grafton Road died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Mr. Andrews was born in Chatham County. He retired from Edgecomb Steel Co. after 29 years of service. He sang with the Gethsemane Quartette for 44 years and sang gospel music for 55 years. He was a faithful member of McLeansville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Minnie B. "Penny" Andrews; a son, Ted Mark Andrews and his wife, Cindy, of Greensboro; and his grandchildren, Madison Whitney Andrews and Chelsea Nicole Andrews, both of Greensboro. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Etta Hardison, Effie Kendricks, Mildred Hawks, Ruby Fields and Lessie Harris; and his brothers, Merd Andrews, Lonnie Andrews, James Andrews, Roy Andrews and Riley Andrews. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at McLeansville Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Elizabeth Blair Byers of 204 E. 25th St., Winston-Salem passed on Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Semper Care of Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Aug. 12, 1924, in York County, S.C., to Alexander Blair and Mattie Lee Love Blair. She was a laundry employee for Silver Front Dry Cleaners and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center laundry. She was a member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Alexander Blair and Mattie Lee Love Blair; six brothers; seven sisters; and two sons, Rufus Byers and David Blair Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Mrs. Rosie Byers McClure of South Carolina and Ms. Jo Ann Blair Stevenson of Bronx, N.Y.; her sons, Mr. Robert E. Blair of Cleveland, Ohio, Ken Byers of Winston-Salem and Jerry Byers of Winston-Salem; her sister, Mrs. Minnie Hardin, of Cleveland, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Ms. Beulah Young, of Winston-Salem; 15 great-great-nieces; and 17 great-great-great-nieces. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Aug. 4, at the Frances S. & Jerry C. Gilmore Memorial Chapel, where the Rev. Calvin Runnels will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Byrd, George Ivan
Mr. George Ivan Byrd, 74, of 4624 Frandale Drive, Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home of Winston-Salem. Ivan was born in Surry County on Jan. 12, 1930, to the late George Everett Byrd and Avy Alexander Byrd. He is survived by his wife, Lee Byrd of the home; a daughter, Cecilia (Ken) Ayers of Lewisville; a stepson, Bob Hayes of Lenoir; three sisters, Frances B. Warren of Clemmons, Jean B. Harris of Elkin and Alene B. Ghant of Jonesville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Johnson Funeral Home in Elkin by the Rev. Jeff Cleary. Burial will follow at Center Baptist Church Cemetery. Clark, Mamie Magdelene Joyce
LAWSONVILLE - Mrs. Mamie Magdelene Joyce Clark, 93, of Lawsonville passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, Va. She was born in Stokes County on April 16, 1911, to the late Murry and Nancy Jane Hughes Joyce. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Clark; five sisters; and a brother. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Madison. Mrs. Clark is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas R. and Jesse Marie Clark of Lawsonville; a granddaughter, Janet Lee Clark; and a sister, Myrtle Hayes of Greensboro. The funeral service for Mrs. Clark will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart, Va., with Elder Charles Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Hylton Thessalonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. A wake will be held one hour prior to the service at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, Va.

Mrs. Ethel Kiser Doss, 97, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Doss was born in Stokes County on Aug. 9, 1906, to the late Lehman and Mary Comer Kiser. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Franklin Doss, and a son, Jerry Doss. Mrs. Doss is survived by a son, Jesse Doss and wife, Betty, of Winston-Salem; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Doss-Loflin of Lexington; five grandchildren, Kevin, Karen, David, Misty and Pam; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Kiser and Iris Johnson, both of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with Pastor Larry Easler officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Aug. 4, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
