DALTON
Herman Lee Dalton, 93, of Heritage Woods, formerly of Pine Valley Road, passed away September 14, 1999 at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, of complications following surgery. Mr. Dalton, the second of nine children, was born in Patrick County, Va. October 12, 1905 to Sarah Clementine Gilbert and Jefferson Kaiser Dalton. The family moved to Mayodan, N.C. where he attended public school & began his entrepreneural endeavors. He also attended St. Pauls School in Beaufort, N.C. In the mid 20's, he moved to Winston-Salem and attended Draughn's Business College. Mr. Dalton was associated many years with C.R. Williams & Son. During World War II, he worked at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va. and at the National Carbon Company in Winston-Salem. In 1945, along with A.L. Hege and Bruce Lewis, Sr. He founded and was President of Dalton-Hege Radio Supply Co. Inc., where he remained until the business was sold to Electronic Wholesales in 1961. He was also Vice President and Director of Ligon Electric Supply Company, Inc. from 1955-1992. In 1927, Mr. Dalton married Mary Frances Martin (also of Mayodan), who preceded him in death in 1990. The couple worked together most of their married lives in Winston-Salem. Mr. Dalton is survived by his only daughter, Frances Dalton Thomas; two granddaughters, Kristen L. Thomas, and Karen Lee Thomas Nickel (and husband, Rick Nickel); three beloved grandchildren, Molly, Dalton, and Ian Nickel, all of Winston-Salem. Other survivors include a sister, Gladys Doyle; a brother Clyde Dalton, of Mayodan, and a sister-in-law, Elva Dalton, of Orlando, Florida, and many nieces and nephwes. Mr. Dalton has been a member of the Twin City Club of Winston-Salem. He also became a member of Home Moravian Church. After accomplishing great things during his working years, Mr. Dalton chose to spend his retirement years doing small things in a great way. Perhaps his greatest legacy will be the good deeds he did for others. He will be remembered as a true friend, who, when needed would give freely of his time and expertise. We will miss you Daddy, Granddaddy, Mr. Dalton, Herman. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Home Moravian Church in Old Salem. WESTFIELD, N.C. -- Mr. Thomas Jefferson Lowe, 81, of Rt. 1, Westfield, N.C., departed this earthly life Sunday at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy, N.C. He was born October 31, 1917 in Guilford County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ashby T. and Judy Morehouse Lowe. He was a very active and dedicated member of Chestnut Ridge Progressive Primitive Baptist Church and retired from East Surry High School in Pilot Mountain. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bernice Cox Lowe of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Julie (Charles) Bratton of Newport News, Va., Ms. La Shene Lowe, and Mrs. Tommy Jill (Minister Kenneth) Smith all of Westfield; five grandchildren; an adopted son, Mr. Alfred Flowers of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Jones of Stokesdale, Mrs. Bernice Hopkins of Greensboro, and Mrs. Nancy (Lee) Perry of Stoneville, N.C.; two brothers, Mr. Columbus Lowe of Winston-Salem and Mr. Armentius (Nannie) Lowe of Stokesdale; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Lowe; and nieces, nephews other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 o'clock at Chestnut Ridge Progressive Primitive Baptist Church. Rev. Johnny Price will be the Eulogist and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 until 8 at Chestnut Ridge Progressive Primitive Baptist Church in Westfield and at other times the family may be contacted at the home, Rt. 1, Highway 89 East, Westfield, N.C. Mrs. Sarah Margaret Stanton Rhodes, 63, of 454 Westcott Drive, passed away on Monday, September 13, 1999 at her residence following a period of illness. She was a native of Bennettsville, South Carolina, born on November 6, 1935, the daughter of the late Talmadge and Katie Townson Stanton, Sr. She formerly attended New Unity Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired bus operator for the Winston-Salem Transit Authority. She is survived by her husband, Wallace Rhodes of the home; two children, Shirley (Tyrone) Ward of Jacksonville, Florida and Ellison Rhodes of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren; one sister, Minnie Hairston of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, James (Loretta) Stanton of Winston-Salem and Reverend Talmadge (Mary) Stanton, Jr. of Johns Island, S.C.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 17, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny E. Scott officiating. Interment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 2:30 until 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the Russell Funeral Home. ROBERTSON
MOCKSVILLE -- Press Columbus Robertson, 76, of Howardtown Road, died Tuesday, September 14, 1999 at Davie County Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, September 17, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Cornatzer Baptist Church with Rev. Elmer Day and Rev. David Hudson officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home Thursday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Mr. Robertson was born December 18, 1922 in Davie County to the late Grover and Lizzie Potts Robertson. He was a retired Saw Mill Operator. He later operated P & J. Motor Company and more recently worked at Bermuda Run Country Club. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Cornatzer Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers, E.T., Turner, Grover, and Dewey Robertson. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Michael Robertson of the home; six children, Allen Grant (Becky) Robertson of Clemmons, Press Shelton (Norma) Robertson, Johnny N. (Brenda) Robertson, Sr., Sheila R. (David) Owens, Timothy M. (Layne) Robertson all of Mocksville, and Jackie D. (Robin) Robertson of Advance; thirteen grandchildren; Chad, Kelly, Edwin, Jason, Johnny, Jr., Kristle, David, Jr., Brandon, Nicholas, Courtney, Micah, Christopher, and Tiffany; one brother, Calvin Arnold Robertson of Mocksville; and two sisters, Opal Howard and Ruth Sheets of Mocksville.
SATTERFIELD
Mrs. Ruth Addertion Satterfield, 73, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, September 15, 1999. She was born April 26, 1925 in Forsyth County to William Lee and Rena Gordon Addertion. Mrs. Satterfield was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She had retired from Southern Bell as Chief Operator with over 40 years of service and she was a member of the A.T.&T. Pioneers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Dennis Satterfield and one brother, William Lee Addertion, Jr. Surviving are one son, Dennis ''Butch'' Satterfield and wife, Jean Poley of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Georgianne Satterfield Jones and husband, J. Frank of Clemmons; one great-grandson, Zachary Kramer Jones; two brothers, James Samuel Addertion and wife, Edna and Robert Gray Addertion and wife, Pat; a sister-in-law, Betty Addertion; and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 1999 at Bethel United Methodist Church by Rev. Dana Wooten. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ms. Rosa Lee Scriven, age 81, of 810 W. 14th Street Apt. K, passed away on Monday, September 13, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Sumter, S.C. and was the daughter of the late Johnson and Mary Mickens Scriven. Ms. Scriven was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Scriven, John Scriven, Robert Scriven, Joseph Scriven, and Albert Scriven. Ms. Rosa Lee Scriven is survived by five sons, Bobby L. Scriven, Lonnie V. Scriven, Hiawatha (Robin) Gist, Frankie C. Scriven, all of Winston-Salem, And Woodie H. (Althia) Scriven of Durham, N.C.; four daughters; Sheila M. Scriven, Sharon S. (Roosevelt) Hudson, Jeanette L. Scriven and Annette L. Scriven, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five brothers, Theodore Scriven, Henry Scriven, Elmore Scriven, all of Sumter, S.C., Carl Scriven, Bishop Manning Scriven both of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Sadie S. Robinson, Anna S. Green, both of Sumter, S.C., and Katie Billips of Philadelphia, Pa., a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. KERNERSVILLE -- Mrs. Donal Snowbrick, 69 of 445 Valleymeade Dr., Kernersville, passed away on September 11, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the home, 445 Valleymeade Dr., Kernersville, N.C. on Saturday, September 18, 1999 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. A burial service will be held in Painesville, Ohio on September 25, 1999. Dottie, as she was known to family and friends, was born on December 25, 1929 in Carolina, W.Va. She was a retired Registered Nurse, a homemaker, and was of the Methodist faith. She is survived by her husband, Donal Snowbrick of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donal Snowbrick, Jr. and wife, Vickie, and Phillip Snowbrick and wife, Kathy; three grandchildren, Angel, Melissa, and Phillip, all residing in Painesville, Ohio; two sisters, Shirley Lovett and Nancy Pierce of Greensboro; two nephews, Paul Lovett and wife, Candace and their daughter, Lauren of Kernersville, and Keith Lovett of Winston-Salem; and one niece, Lisa Eller and husband, Christopher of Lynchburg, Va. THOMASVILLE -- Mrs. Evelyn Petty West, 69, formerly of 2392 N. NC Hwy 109 died Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Home. Mrs. West was born February 10, 1930 in Guilford County to George and Viola Haley Petty. She was a member of Christian Cathedral in Thomasville where she was also an assistant teacher for the Lady's Bible Class, and she was retired from Leggett and Platt. On January 27, 1978 she was married to Foster ''Jr.'' West who preceded her in death. Survivors include a son George A. Whitfield of Wilmington, stepson Foster Leondard of Peeksville, N.Y.; daughter, Mrs. Larry (Linda) Jones of Thomasville; stepdaughter, Lois West of Peeksville, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Chris Jones of Charlotte, Mark Jones of Thomasville, Amy Whitfield of Kernersville, Rachel West and Foster Leonard, Jr. both of Peeksville, N.Y.; and four sisters, Lois Keck, Martha Welch, and Matlin ''Tootsie'' Talbert all of High Point, and Vivian Lee of Hillsville. Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale officiated by Rev. Numa Highfill, Rev. Jeffrey Hilbourn, and Rev. Jane Auman. CHARLOTTE -- Nancy Beck Johnson, 64, of 661 Hempstead Place, Charlotte, N.C., died September 13, 1999 at Carolinas Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 1999 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Dr. Raymond D. Scott, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at Westover Cemetery, Augusta, Ga. The family will receive friends at the home, 661 Hempstead Place, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. today. Mrs. Johnson was born in Lexington, N.C. on January 1, 1935 to Donald Beck and the late Mildred Beck. She graduated from Wake Forest University in 1956 and throughout her life has had strong ties to Wake Forest. She met her husband at Wake Forest and each of her three children were graduates of the school. While living in Augusta, she and her husband hosted the Wake Forest Masters Party from 1974 until their move to Charlotte in 1980. She lived in Augusta for nineteen years where she was active in Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Junior League. She was a member of Wood Valley Garden Club and the ''Bridge Club''. In Charlotte, she became a strong volunteer and President of Winghaven Society. She was associated with Crescent Collection and a member of the Merry Mints Garden Club. Aside from her family and church, her special interests were a love for gardening and antiques. Mrs. Johnson was a devoted, unselfish, and loving wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, James E. Johnson, Jr. They have three children, Anne Johnson Bolt of Little River, S.C., Jane Johnson White of Winston-Salem, and James E. Johnson III of Little Rock, Ark. She is also survived by her father, Donald Beck and by her sister, Anne Bevan both of Lexington, N.C. Pallbearers will be John M. Belk, Cliff C. Cameron, Stuart Dickson, Beverly F. Dolan, Cameron M. Harris, John W. Harris, Torrence E. Hemby, Louis L. Rose, and Edward I. Weisinger. Mr. John Neel Jones, 55, of 2305 Catskill Street, Temple Hill, Md., died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 9, 1999 in that city. Mr. Jones was a graduate of Atkins High School, Class of ''62''. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from Winston-Salem State University. He was born May 2, 1944 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Mr. George Johnson, Sr. and Christine Jones. He was preceded in death by his father, George Johnson, Sr. and by his grandmother, Mrs. Willie Bennett. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosalene Jones of the home; one son, Mr. Shelton (Misty) Davis of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a daughter, Anissa C. Jones of the home; twin granddaughters, Kailyn and Jailyn Ragland; his mother, Mrs. Christine Jackson of Detroit, Michigan; his step-mother, Mrs. Malissa Johnson of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Mrs. Mary (Harold) Springs, Mrs. Audrey (Melvin) Davis, and Mrs. Sharon (Fred) Buford and one brother, Mr. George Johnson, Jr. all of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
