Wilhelm, Roy Everett
Mr. Roy Everett Wilhelm 66, died July 14, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Yadkin County to Everett and Eva Wilkins Wilhelm. Mr. Wilhelm graduated from Boonville High School and was a member of Pfafftown Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. National Guard for six years and was retired from Roadway Trucking Co. with 33 years of service. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, devoted father and a wonderful Papa. His last five and a half years were spent caring part time for his twin grandsons and gardening. He made a difference in all our children's lives and we love him dearly for all his love and support. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Wilhelm was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Fred Wilhelm. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Toleda Dowell Wilhelm, of the home; a daughter, Ginger Wilhelm Marshall, and husband, Brian, of East Bend; a son, Greg Wilhelm, and wife, Julia, of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Mitch Wilhelm, Daniel Wilhelm, Corey Wilhelm, Samuel Marshall and Nicholas Marshall; a stepgranddaughter, Heather Putzel; a brother, Dale Wilhelm, and wife, Kathy, of Yadkinville; three sisters, Patsy Billiott of Boonville, Frances King and husband, Jack, of Hamptonville and Margie Vannoy and husband, Willie, of North Wilkesboro; a sister-in-law, Mildred Wilhelm, of Boonville; and several nieces and nephews. A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held today, July 17, at Pfafftown Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. Calloway, Grace Gladys Henning
Mrs. Grace Gladys Henning Calloway, 91, of Winston-Salem died Monday, July 12, 2004. She was born in Forsyth County on Aug. 12, 1912, to Arthur Benbow Henning and Cora Lee Lakey Henning. Mrs. Calloway retired from Hanes Knitting Co. in 1973 and was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Thomas Calloway. Mrs. Calloway is survived by a daughter, Nancy Calloway Sipe, and husband, Rickey, of Lewisville; two grandchildren, Stephen Blanchard Jr. and Shannon Kleweno of Kansas; a great-grandson, Gunner Blanchard; eight nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. William A. (Sadie) Henning. The service will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 15, at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, with interment following in the church cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Disher, Rick D.
Mr. Rick D. Disher, 52, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born March 17, 1952, in Forsyth County to Charles Wesley and Frances Newman Disher. A graduate of Reynolds High School, Rick loved baseball, softball, golf, rugby and NASCAR. He was a coach of both Pop Warner and South Little League and a diehard Wake Forest fan. Rick worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 32 years. He was a member of Christ Moravian Church. Preceding Rick in death were his father; and his stepfather, Roy Mackey. Survivors include his wife, Robbie Crater Disher, of the home; his children, Cameron and Bryce Disher; his mother, Frances Disher Mackey; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Aleene and Charlie Crater; his brothers-in-law, Chuck Crater and his wife, Susan, and their daughter, Beth, and Mark Crater and his wife, Paige, and their children, Jack and Thomas; and his uncle, Sonny Newman and his wife, Bonnie, all of the Winston-Salem area. The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Christ Moravian Church with the Rev. Neil Routh and the Rev. Randy Vogler officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Moravian Graveyard. A reception for family and friends will be held at the church fellowship hall following the burial. Evans, Robert Nelson
MARIETTA, Ga. - Mr. Robert Nelson Evans, 67, of Marietta passed on Saturday, July 10, 2004, after an extended illness. He was born Nov. 17, 1936, to Mrs. Vivian Clingman Evans and John Andy Evans Sr. Early in his life, he became a member of the Capernaum Church of Christ in Clemmons, N.C. Mr. Evans attended the public schools of Forsyth County and was a graduate of Carver High School in 1954. He received a bachelor's degree from NC A&T State University and later attended Johns Hopkins University, receiving a master's degree in public health. Mr. Evans held several positions in the field of public health, including positions with the World Health Organization, USAID and the C.D.C. in Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty McCelland Evans. Mr. Evans is survived by his mother, Mrs. Vivian C. Evans of Clemmons, N.C.; two brothers, John (Maria) A. Evans Jr. of Gainesville, Va., and James H. Evans of Wadesboro, N.C.; two nieces, Joana M. Evans and Allison (David) Evans Martin, both of northern Virginia; a devoted friend, Pamela Jude of Geneva, Switzerland; and a host of relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, at the family plot at Capernaum Church of Christ Cemetery in Clemmons, N.C. LEWISVILLE - Mrs. Clara Opal Kiger Harbin, 89, of Lewisville died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Forsyth County to William Steadman Kiger Sr. and Bertie Ella Fulk Kiger. Mrs. Harbin was a faithful member of Lewisville Baptist Church and the Sallie Lillington Sunday School Class. At the time of her death, she was Lewisville Baptist Church's member with the greatest number of years of continuous membership and service. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 31 years of service. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Della Hege Kiger, and a sister, Ruby Kiger Nelson. Mrs. Harbin is the widow of Bruce Buford Harbin, to whom she was marriage for 56 years. Surviving are her son, Bruce Allen Harbin Sr., and his wife, Susan Patton Harbin, of Bermuda Run; two grandsons, Bruce Allen Harbin Jr. of Greensboro and David Scott Harbin and his wife, Karrie, of Chicago, Ill.; her brother, W.S. Kiger Jr., of Clemmons; her sister, Sue Gray Kiger Ernst, of Winston-Salem; many nieces and nephews; and a host of devoted friends. Hobson, Betty Benbow
EAST BEND - Mrs. Betty Benbow Hobson, 79, of East Bend died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Wilkes County on Sept. 29, 1924, to James Blaine and Lula Cordell Henderson. Mrs. Hobson was a member of East Bend United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the United Methodist Women. She was retired from the postal service as the postmaster in East Bend. She served as mayor pro tem in East Bend as well as town commissioner. She was very active in the Yadkin County Democratic Party. Mrs. Hobson was also a former board member of Share-A-Home in Boonville. Surviving are her children, Jane Terrell Benbow of Arlington, Va., Mary B. Beach of Granite Falls, LuAn Hobson White of Nashville, Tenn., and Wade M. Hobson Jr. of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren, Luke and Jessica Beach of Granite Falls. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at the East Bend United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Janet Anderson. Burial will follow in the East Bend Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service. Ms. Josephine Tuttle Lindsay, 84, of 456 Thomas School Road, Midway community passed Saturday, July 10, 2004. She was born to Frank and Mattie Lindsay Tuttle. She was a retired employee of Thomasville Furniture Co. and a member of Saint's Delights Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Lindsay; her parents; and other relatives. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Barbara Ann Lindsay; a devoted friend, Fred Christian; a sister, Blanche Thomas; two sisters-in-law, Cora Holmes and devoted Ollie Tuttle; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
