Jones, L. Perry
Mr. L. Perry Jones, 63, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at his home. He was born July 29, 1940, in Forsyth County to the late Lewie Johnson and Velda Conrad Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and a member of The Heart of Carolina Street Rodders Inc. He is survived by a daughter, Amanda K. Jones of Westfield; a brother, Buddy L. Jones and wife, Barbara, of Winston-Salem; a sister, Dianne J. Marshall and husband, Gene, of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Susan Jones of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gary Myers and Dr. Gary McCullough. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, July 13, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
Joyce, Callie Dyson
PFAFFTOWN - Mrs. Callie Dyson Joyce, 95, of Pfafftown went to meet her Lord on Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Sept. 22, 1908, in Rowan County to Mart and Cora Lee Dyson. Callie was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Elijah W. Joyce; a daughter, Mae Belle Hann; a son-in-law, Richard Hann Sr.; and a grandson, Richard Hann Jr. She is survived by a son, James E. Joyce Sr. and wife, Sue, of Ararat; two daughters, Jo Ann Beauchamp and husband, Robert, of Winston-Salem and Brenda Chapman and husband, Ren, of Pfafftown; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ada Anderson of Winston-Salem; along with a host of nieces and nephews, numerous friends and loved ones. The funeral service for Mrs. Joyce will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Pastor Jonathan Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Palmyra United Methodist Church Cemetery in Germanton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, July 13, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Hospice for the special care extended to our mother these past few months and also for the support shown from her church.

Mrs. Sindy Smith Lindsey, formerly of 810-D W. 14th St., passed away Monday, July 12, 2004, at SemperCare Hospital of Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Union Baptist Church, where the Rev. Dr. Sir Walter Mack Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service, from 1:30 to 2 p.m., at the church. The remains may be viewed from 2 to 6 p.m. today, July 13, at Douthit Visitation Center. The family may be contacted at the home of her daughter, Sarah Lindsay, 1236 Springwood Circle. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.

Myers, Robert Arnold Lee
WILMINGTON - Mr. Robert Arnold Lee Myers of Wilmington passed away Sunday, July 11, 2004. He was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Forsyth County. He is survived by his wife, Pansy S. Myers; two daughters, Linda W. Gizinski of Winston-Salem and Cynthia D. Myers of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Sherry Ann Young, Joey W. Church and Jennifer R. Gizinski; two great-grandchildren, Rockey Young and Jacob Young; and several cousins in Wilmington and Winston-Salem. Robert served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He had a fruitful life and will be remembered for his beautiful music. He will be greatly missed by many. The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Vogler Reynolda Chapel. Interment will be in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, July 13, at the funeral chapel.

Nunn, Erleen Hall
BERMUDA RUN - Mrs. Erleen Hall Nunn, 77, of Bermuda Run passed away unexpectedly at home Sunday, July 11, 2004. Mrs. Nunn was born Oct. 26, 1926, in Winston-Salem to Herbert H. and Lottie Kates Hall and spent her life in Winston-Salem. She graduated from Hanes High School in 1944. Mrs. Nunn was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church, a member of the Olympic Club and a former member of the Coterie Club for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Juanita Beck; and a brother, Roger H. Hall. She was a caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her love for family and friends will long be remembered. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William R. Nunn Jr.; a son, Gordon R. Nunn of Morgantown, W.Va.; a daughter, Daughn Eagan and husband, David, of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Christopher and Kerry Eagan; a stepmother, Eddis Holbrook Hall; a sister-in-law, Eloise Masche; two nephews, Keith A. Gordon and wife, Pandora, and Herbert R. Hall and wife, Fleeta, and their children, Brooke and Sandy; and two nieces, Judy Everhart and husband, Clarence, and their children, Lane and Ryan and Donna G. Williams and her children, Ashley, Laura and Alex. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 13, at Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev. Edwin Troutman and the Rev. Claxton Hall officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children's Home Society in Greensboro in remembrance of the joy and love her adopted children meant to her life.
Rhodes, Ellen Lackey
MACARTHUR, W.Va. - Ellen Lackey Rhodes, 92, of MacArthur went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2004. She was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Lawsonville, N.C., to the late Walter and Lilla Martin Lackey. Mrs. Rhodes and her husband, Hollis, moved from Danbury, N.C., to MacArthur in 1946. They owned and operated Rhodes Supply and Cabinet Shop. Hollis preceded her in death June 19, 2000, after 62 years of marriage. She was an active member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church and Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was treasurer of Circle No. 1 as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers, Lucy Riley, Gladys Pringle, Lillian Vanable, Adele Smith, Geneva Spencer, Edward Lackey and Henry Lackey. Survivors include a half-sister, Dorothy Shelrake of Asheboro, N.C.; a half-brother, Harold Lackey of Lawsonville, N.C.; and a very close sister-in-law, Nina Blair of Crab Orchard. She had many nieces and nephews, including Margaret Wall of Winston-Salem, N.C., with whom she was extremely close. The family would like to express special appreciation and gratitude to a devoted friend and caregiver, Betty Poe of MacArthur and the Hospice staff. Friends may call from 6 to 9 this evening, July 13, at the Melton Mortuary. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, in the Melton Chapel with the Rev. Philip Shields and the Rev. Don Gibbs officiating. Committal service and burial will follow at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Peters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawsonville, N.C. Pallbearers will be Ray Yates, Pete Graham, Gene Church, Tim Yokely, Donald Blair and Herbie Atha. Arrangements are by Melton Mortuary, Inc., of Beckley.
