Essick, Willie Lee
KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Willie Lee Essick, 79, of 3026 Abbotts Creek Church Road died Thursday June 17, 2004, in High Point Regional Hospital. He was born in Davidson County Aug. 12, 1924, to John Dewitt Essick and Nora Mendenhall Essick. He was a farmer and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Essick was a member of Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was marriage on March 20, 1948, to Betty Spurgeon. He was preceded in death by sisters, Clara E. Darr and Ina E. Ward; and brothers Joe Essick and Robert Essick. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Betty S. Essick of the home; two sons, David Essick and his wife, Mary, of High Point and Larry Essick and his wife, Libby, of Kernersville; Andrea Valero of the home; three grandchildren, Dale Essick and wife Angie of High Point, Dustin Essick and wife Marsha of High Point and Melissa Essick Barnett and husband Kenyon of High Point; four great-grandchildren, Cody, Brooke and Reese Essick, and Chloe Barnett; two brothers, his twin, Rillie Essick of Jamestown, and John Essick of Lexington; and a sister, Mrs. Mildred E. Willard of Thomasville, formerly of Winston-Salem. A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Hollar, with the Rev. Jack Rose and the Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Wallburg Chapel, until placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Family members will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, June 19, at the funeral home, and Betty Essick and her son Larry will receive friends at the home. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice.

Henning Jr., Paul Morris
EMERALD ISLE - Paul Morris Henning Jr., 77, of Emerald Isle, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Henning was born in Winston-Salem Oct. 8, 1926, to Paul M. and Elizabeth Mock Henning and was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem until his retirement, after 31 years with Western Electric Co. in June 1983. He attended R.J. Reynolds High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of American and a veteran of World War II. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Thomas B. Bagnal officiating. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah L. Henning of Emerald Isle and Dana Franklin and husband Dr. Cliff Franklin of Shelby. Also surviving are grandchildren, Drake Henning Franklin, Tyler Chase Franklin, Ashton Brooke Franklin, Aubrey Ann Franklin, Lindsey Ann Owings and Carrie Elizabeth Hampton; and great-grandchildren, Jaden Elizabeth Hampton and Caitlynn Carol Still. The family will receive friends following the services.
Lytle, Robert Earl
ATLANTA - Mr. Robert Earl Lytle was born Nov. 19, 1965, in Winston-Salem to Geneva B. and Thomas Lytle Jr. He departed his life Monday, June 14, 2004, in Atlanta, Ga. He was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. He completed classes in police communications at Bolton School. Mr. Lytle was a former employee of Blue Bird and Willard's cab companies, before going to Atlanta, Ga. He resided in Atlanta for two years. He leaves to cherish, not mourn his memories, his mother, Geneva, and father, Thomas Lytle Jr. of Winston-Salem; a sister, Janice D. Crawford of Cape Coral, Fla.; three brothers, Thomas H. Lytle of Winston-Salem, Frankie M. Lytle of Anaheim, Calif. and Gregory G. (Sheryl) Lytle of Rochester, N.Y.; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and a very devoted friend, Olin Scott of Atlanta, Ga. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at Douthit Visitation Center, where the Rev. J.R. Samuels will officiate and interment to follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services from 1:30 until 2 p.m. at Douthit's. The remains may be viewed from 3 until 6 p.m. Sunday at Douthit Visitation Center. The family may be contacted at the home of the parents, 3018 Bon Air Ave. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
Miller, Stella Jane Dixon
COURTNEY - At sunrise Thursday morning, June 17, God sent a band of angels to collect another angel home, who had trusted in God for a lifetime. Stella Jane Dixon Miller, 88, of Courtney was born April 22, 1916, in Yadkin County to Isaac R. and Amelia Mathis Dixon. She was retired from Drexel-Heritage Furniture Corp., and was a member of Turners Creek Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday-school teacher and as a delegate to the Southern Baptist Convention. Mrs. Miller was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul C. Miller, on Nov. 27, 1988; a son, Jerry Miller; three brothers, Tom, Lester and Howard Dixon; and two sisters, Leigh Miller and Gladys Dixon. Surviving are two daughters, Pauline "Peggy" Douglas (Tom deceased) and Jo Ann (John) Watson; and a son, Alan Miller, all of Courtney; six grandchildren, Rita (Steve) Smith, Dean (Robin) Brandon, Shelia (Clint) McKinney, Tommie Miller, Jimmy Miller and Sandy Martin; seven great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandson; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Hutchens of Yadkinville; a brother, Ray Dixon of Boonville; a very special friend, Cleo Gough; nurses Kathy Palmer, Nancy West and Denise Williams; and her cat, Heidi. The Miller family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, June 19, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Turners Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. David Maynard and the Rev. Bud Brawley. Mrs. Miller will lie in state from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. KERNERSVILLE - Trudy Manring Monson, 79, of 5265 West Road died Friday, June 18, 2004, at Bradford Village West. She was born on Sept. 17, 1924, in Stokes County, a daughter of the late Ernest and Beatrice Collins Manring. She attended the Baptist Tabernacle of Kernersville. Surviving are five daughters, Doris Hardin of Columbus, Judy Propst of Mississippi, Kathy Pate of Clemmons, Carol Jean Wyrick of Indiana and Tammy Schuler of Thermond; two sons, Joe Wyrick and James Wyrick Jr., both of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Bertha Stewart and Janie Akers of Kernersville, and Ann Reece and Shirley Steele of High Point; and two brothers, Curtis Manring of Galax, Va., and Hassell Manring of Lexington. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel by the Rev. William Bowman. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
