Mullican, Thelma Hunter
CLEMMONS - Thelma Hunter Mullican passed away on June 16, 2004, at the Elms Assisted Living in Clemmons. She was born Oct. 30, 1903, in Lexington to Harvey Grant Hunter and Ada Everhart Hunter. She was marriage to Enoch Ben Mullican of Clemmons who preceded her in death after 58 years of marriage. She continued to live at their home on Frye Bridge Road until three years ago when she became a resident of the Elms. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Clemmons. She was active in the church and faithful in attending as long as she was able to do so. She was also active in community affairs and at one time was named Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year. She celebrated her 100th birthday with a gathering of family and friends at her church on Nov. 1, 2003. She was very dear to her family and her home was always a second home to them. She was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Hunter White and a brother, John Shields Hunter. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Hunter Smith of Knoxville, Tenn.; her nieces, Jackie Johnson and husband Graham of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Susan Fendley and husband the Rev. Archie Fendley and Kathy Fendley and husband Larry of Knoxville, Tenn.; by her nephews, Samuel Hunter and wife Betty of White Hall, Mont., Pete White and wife Nadine of Boise, Idaho, and Michael Smith and wife Amanda of Charlottesville, Va.; by 18 grandnieces and nephews; and a number of great-grandnieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff and many other friends at the Elms and to her friends Betty and Dalton Sears who were kind and faithful in caring for her. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 21, at Vogler's Funeral Home in Clemmons with the Rev. Robert Phillips and the Rev. Archie Fendley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. In lie of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Clemmons. Interment will be at Clemmons Church of Christ on Frye Bridge Road following the service at the funeral home.

Noah, Barbara Hulon
THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Barbara Hulon Noah, 56, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Randolph Memorial Hospital in Asheboro. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel.

Watson, Lois Greene
DEEP GAP - Mrs. Lois Greene Watson, 77, of Deep Gap died Friday, June 18, at Blowing Rock Hospital. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens in Boone. Hampton Funeral Service in Boone is in charge of arrangements.

Bristow Sr., Carl Edward
Mr. Carl Edward Bristow Sr., 52, of 1540 Pleasant St. passed on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Dec. 3, 1951, in Florence, S.C., to John Bristow Jr. and Margaret Wright Bristow. He was employed by Food Lion. He attended the local public schools of Forsyth County. He was a member of New Trinity Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. John E. Bristow Jr.; a brother, Earl A. Bristow Sr.; and two nephews, Levar A. Hairston and Deshard Smart. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Effie Smart Bristow; a daughter, Andrea (Rudolph) Bristow; his sons, Mr. Carl E. (Nicole) Bristow Jr. and Mr. Carlos E. Bristow; a stepson, Carlos A. Smart; his mother, Margaret Wright Bristow; his sisters, Mrs. Aubrentine (Donald) Brown Sr., Ms. Vonnie B. Young, Ms. Dorothy B. May of Concord, Mrs. Mae (Harry) Carethers, Ms. Gail Howard and Mrs. Iona (Stephen) Hairston Sr.; his grandchildren, Chiquita Bristow, Adreana Jones, D'Karra Bristow, Kierre Lindsay, Nomi Beal, Nachelle Beal and KiKi Beal; a mother-in-law, Mrs. Maxine Smart; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Renee (Curlee) Young and Mrs. Cynthia (Dwane) Brown; two brothers-in-law, Mr. David "Gay" Smart and Mr. Joseph Smart; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today, June 12, in the Frances S. and Jerry C. Gilmore Memorial Chapel, where Minister Charles Kennedy will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:30 p.m. today in the funeral chapel. The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence. Arrangements are entrusted to and services will be conducted by Gilmore Funeral Home Service.

Chipman, Janie Lou Williams
Janie Lou Williams Chipman, 49, made the transition in a quiet peaceful sleep Wednesday, June 10, 2004. She was born Aug. 20, 1954, in Bethania to Peggy Ritchey Williams and the late Carlos Clifford Williams Sr. Janie enjoyed flower gardening and painting. She was active in her church as long as her health permitted. She graduated from North Forsyth High School. Janie was a loving wife, mother and friend. She is survived by many caring friends and family members which include her husband, Barry Lynn Chipman of the home in Rural Hall; her sons, Brandon David Hill of Winston-Salem and Thomas Ryan Chipman and wife Jaime of Gastonia; her brothers, Carlos Clifford Williams and wife Salem of King and Joseph R. Williams of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and a nephew. Other survivors include special aunts and uncles, Ginger and John Reid of Clemmons, Betty and Boyce Royal of Winston-Salem and Kenneth Williams; her grandmother, Louise Kates Ritchey of Winston-Salem; and her in-laws, Cathy and Don Jones of Kernersville and Geri and Thomas Chipman of Winston-Salem. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, at Bethania Moravian Graveyard, with the Rev. Wayne Byerly presiding. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Bethania Moravian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 170, Bethania, NC 27010. A special thanks to the employees and management of Deere-Hitachi, Kernersville for their loyal and committed support. The family also thanks her special friends and caretakers, Cindy Ramirez and Nancy Weatherford.

Cole, Ivalea Moretz
Mrs. Ivalea Moretz Cole of Winston-Salem died in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sunday, June 6, 2004. She was born in Watauga County on April 7, 1928, to Grady G. Moretz and Willie Belle Davis Moretz. Mrs. Cole lived most of her life in Winston-Salem and retired as a bookkeeper from Kmart. She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. Cole. She is survived by two sons, Barry M. Cole of Salisbury and Dr. David Lee Cole of Centerville, Va.; a daughter, Nancy C. Zimmerman of California City, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Hayley J. Cole and Matthew Cole. There will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. today, June 12, at Forsyth Memorial Park, with Dr. Cecil Cave Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. today at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel in Winston-Salem.

Crews, Nathaniel Sullivan
DANVILLE, Va. - Mr. Nathaniel Sullivan Crews, 67, of 259 Linden Drive died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday afternoon, June 10, 2004. He was born Nov. 25, 1936, in Winston-Salem, N.C., the son of the late Judge Nathaniel Sullivan Crews and Julia Lyons Crews. He was marriage for 43 years to Carol Sue Culp Crews, who survives. He was a graduate of Reynolds High School and earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. During the Korean War, he served in Korea in the U.S. Army, special services division. He was a long-standing member of the First Presbyterian Church of Danville, where he served as a deacon, elder, trustee and chairman of the Mission Committee and was a member of the Outlook Bible Class. He was a member of the Danville Kiwanis Club, serving on the board of directors, the German Club and the board of associates at Averett University. Mr. Crews came to Danville with McLean Trucking Co. in 1966. He was with J.C. Bradford for 20 years and retired from Legg Mason in 2003. "NatNat, " as he was called by his grandchildren, was a devoted grandfather who loved supporting his grandsons' soccer games and encouraging his granddaughters with their swimming. Nat was an avid swimmer and shell collector who loved trips to the coast with his family. He embraced life with enthusiasm and was blessed with a loving family and extended family. He is survived by his wife, Susie, of the home; and a daughter, Natalie Crews Goodwin and her husband, Kevin, and their three children, Ryan Edward, Nathaniel Kevin and Suzannah Sullivan Goodwin, all of Huntersville, N.C. His son, Cooper Sullivan, of Danville and Cooper's daughter, Caitlyn Sullivan, also survive him. In addition he is survived by his sister, Julia Crews McGee and her husband, Dr. John McGee, of Charlotte, N.C., and their children, Elizabeth McGee Christenberry of Tampa, Fla., Virginia McGee Richards of London, U.K., Margaret McGee Brantley of Columbia, S.C., and Dr. John McGee III of Blacksburg, Va. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Charles LaPlaca. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, June 12, at Townes Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence, 259 Linden Drive. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Missions Budget of First Presbyterian Church. Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donalson, Helen Bradbury
ADVANCE - Mrs. Helen Bradbury Donalson, 85, of Advance died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at the Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie. She was born Jan. 30, 1919, in New Castle, Del., to the late John and Mary Harlow Bradbury. Mrs. Donalson was preceded in death by her husband, Drexel Shick Donalson. She is survived by a daughter, Jane Sutton and husband Roger of Advance; a son, Robert Donalson and wife Karen of Cary; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A private service will be held in Wilmington, Del., at a later date. The family requests that memorials be made to the Wilmington Friends Service Committee, 4th and West streets, Wilmington, DE 19801. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is serving the Donalson family.

Eldreth, Helen Perkins
TODD - Helen Perkins Eldreth, 92, of Todd died Friday, June 11, 2004. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson.
