Hill, Ralph F.
Mr. Ralph F. Hill, 83, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Salemtowne Moravian Retirement Community. Mr. Hill was born April 27, 1921, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Ralph Yelton and Julia Fore Hill. He lived in Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and North Carolina as a child. He was a graduate of Hendersonville High School in Hendersonville and Duke University. Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Army in the 1st Medical Laboratory and taught at Hampden-Sydney College before coming to Winston-Salem in July 1951 to be with Wachovia Bank & Trust Co. In July 1959 he went to work as the comptroller for Salem College, where he met his wife, Mary Stewart, whom he marriage in 1961. He also worked at the N.C. School of the Arts and UNC-Greensboro, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Home Moravian Church and the Stratford Rotary Club. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stewart Hill. He is survived by a son, Norman Hill, of Winston-Salem; a sister, Barbara Ann Strickler, of Bowling Green, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Dr. Lee Finklea. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Home Moravian Church with Dr. Gerald Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Moravian Graveyard. Jenkins, Rachel Lucille Stafford
Mrs. Rachel Lucille Stafford Jenkins of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Forsyth County to John Roscoe Stafford and Carrie Shutt Stafford. Mrs. Jenkins was a homemaker and lived in Forsyth County all of her life. She was a graduate of Mineral Springs High School and a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. Mrs. Jenkins was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Ruth Austin. She is survived by her husband, Robert Gray Jenkins of the home; a daughter, Ramona Felty and husband Larry W. Felty of Winston-Salem; two sons, Norris C. Jenkins and David W. Jenkins of Winston-Salem; a grandson, John Robert Felty; a stepgrandchild, Carrie Felty; and a brother, Allen Stafford and wife Opal of Winston-Salem. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Vogler's Main Street Chapel with burial following at Gardens of Memory. The Rev. Thomas Howard, Dr. Bobby Roberson and the Rev. Tim Gammons will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Vogler's Main St. Chapel.
Prim, Dorothy Irene Hale
KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Dorothy Irene Hale Prim, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Britthaven Nursing Center in Kernersville. She was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Sterling W. and Francis Seagraves Hale. Mrs. Prim was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville. Mrs. Prim lived in Rural Hall for 35 years before moving to Kernersville. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and also retired from Food Fair Grocery Stores. She was also a member of Post 9010 Women of the V.F.W. Mrs. Prim was preceded in death by her husband, Billy A. Prim, in 1999; along with three sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Prim is survived by a daughter, Kathy Prim Royall of Old Town; a son, David Prim Sr. and wife Bertha of Kernersville; four grandchildren, David A. Prim Jr. and wife Mindy, Leigh Ann Prim, Heather Schreiber and husband Andy and Michael Ray Royall Jr.; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Guinn and husband Cherry of Maryland and Trula Shockley and husband Eddie of Yadkinville; a brother, Dan Hale and wife Libby of Rural Hall; a close family friend, Michael Ray Royall Sr. of Walnut Cove; and also by several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Prim will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall with Pastor Jonathan Rogers and the Rev. Dan Hippley officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, June 10, at the funeral home. Mr. Leonard Quinton, 82, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, June 9, 2004. Entombment will be 3 p.m. Friday at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Southard, Thelma Tucker
EAST BEND - Mrs. Thelma Tucker Southard, 92, of East Bend went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Wilkes County to Welborn and Caroline Wagoner Tucker. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.M. Southard; two sisters, Ina Tucker and Ila Hayes; and two brothers, Noah Tucker and Walter Tucker. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Mae Johnson of East Bend; five grandchildren, Steve (Debbie) Johnson, Wanda (Charlie) Baker, Diane (Terry) Rushing, Carol (Tim) Moore and Sandra (Terry) Keaton, all of East Bend; seven great-grandchildren, Doug (Daisy) Johnson, Kenny Baker, Jamie Baker, T.J. Moore, Shannon Moore, Chris Johnson and Brandon Keaton, all of East Bend; three great-greatgrandchildren, Kaitlyn Baker, Christina Johnson and Allison Johnson, all of East Bend; five nephews, Leroy Hayes, Bob Hayes, Jim Hayes, Renford Tucker and Roy Tucker; and two nieces, Josephine Stroud and Sharon Kay Parrish. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, at the Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend by Pastor Calvin Mabry. Burial will follow at Little Elkin Baptist Church Cemetery. Turner, David Wilson
MOCKSVILLE - Mr. David Wilson Turner, 61, of Mocksville died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Oct. 2, 1942, in Kinston to Frank Russell and Lillie Wilson Turner. Mr. Turner served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a pilot as well as a crop duster. Mr. Turner also worked for US Airways Express CCAIR until he went to work for Pace Airlines as chief pilot. He also enjoyed shagging. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Johnson Turner of the home; a son, Brad Turner of LaGrange; a daughter, Beth Mosher and husband Ken of Pittsboro; a stepson, Chris Johnson of Mocksville; two grandchildren, Ryan and Kendra Johnson; and two sisters, Delphia Parrott and husband Billy of Morehead City and Mary Ann Wagner and husband Joe of Four Oaks. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Pastor Kristy Rolison officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Yasinsac, Vecie Church
SPARTA - Mrs. Vecie Church Yasinsac, 83, of 231 Maple St., Sparta died Wednesday morning, June 9, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was the widow of Andrew Yasinsac Sr. She was born July 24, 1920, the daughter of Alec Fletcher Church and Allie Parsons Church in Wilkes County. Mrs. Yasinsac resided in Sparta since 1959. She graduated from business school in Boise, Idaho. She was employed in various capacities in Sparta schools, including assistant librarian and teaching assistant for many years. She is survived by three sons, Cody Yasinsac of Kannapolis, Andrew Yasinsac of Columbia, S.C., and Alec Yasinsac of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Vecie Yasinsac of St. Augustine, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Yasinsac; nine grandchildren, Diane Dulaney, Leslie Yasinsac, Bryan Yasinsac, Cristin Yasinsac, Molly Yasinsac, Liam Yasinsac, Claire Yasinsac, Nicole Yasinsac and Andrew Yasinsac; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Church and Laura Church; and a brother-in-law, Merrill Wiles. The funeral service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, at the First Baptist Church of Sparta. The Rev. John McCray will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the church. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Lewis Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in the Purlear community of Wilkes County. Cannon, Everette Howard
Mr. Everette Howard Cannon died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at the Semper Care Hospital in Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 16, 1917, in Columbia, Tenn., a son of the late Everette S. Cannon and Lucille Cannon Siler. He attended public schools in Tennessee and Kentucky and graduated from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1940 to become head of the accounting and bookkeeping department of Draughon Business College. He interrupted his teaching career to serve for three years as a cost auditor and fiscal accountant for the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. In 1945, Mr. Cannon marriage his wife of 59 years, Julia Thaxton Cannon, and returned to Winston-Salem to live. In 1950, he became a certified public accountant and founded the accounting firm of E. H. Cannon & Co., which continues today as Cannon & Company, L.L.P. He practiced public accounting for 40 years as the managing partner of that firm until his retirement. During his accounting career, Mr. Cannon was very active in local, state and national accounting organizations. He was a member and served as a National Director for the National Association of Accountants and was a member and served as president of the N.C. Association of Certified Public Accountants. He was appointed to two terms on the N.C. Board of CPA Examiners, and he served as its president for three years. He was also an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, which appointed him to the National Board of CPA Examiners, where he served as chairman. Mr. Cannon was active in civic affairs by serving on the Forsyth County Airport Commission and was an active member of the Winston-Salem Civitan Club for more than 40 years. Being interested in education, he was a member of the Wake Forest University Planned Giving Advisory Council and of the National Development Council of Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. He was a charter member of the South Fork Church of Christ, where he served as Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder, and he remained a faithful and active member until his death. Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley T. Cannon; and two infant sons, Stanley S. Cannon and Steven E. Cannon. He is survived by his wife, Julia Thaxton Cannon of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glen E. and Anne Cannon of Winston-Salem and Trent E. and Nancy Cannon of Walterboro, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Julie and Amy Cannon of Winston-Salem and Taylor and Kate Cannon of Walterboro, S.C. The funeral service will held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at South Fork Church of Christ, 205 Keating Drive. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, June 8, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. NORTH WILKESBORO - Mrs. Chris Cunningham, 49, of North Brookview Road, North Wilkesboro died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Cunningham was born Jan. 13, 1955, in Yadkin County to J.Q. and Betty Blankenship. She was a member of the North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, George G. Cunningham of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth G. Cunningham of the home; and two sisters, Kathy B. Marusak of Hamptonville and Sandra B. Heffinger of Morganton.
