McKitrick, Louise M.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Louise M. McKitrick, 70, passed away Friday, April 2, 2004, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was a native of Scranton, Pa., and had resided in Louisville, Ky., where she was employed by Seven Counties Services as a community coach for 13 years. Survivors include her son, Stephen J. White, of Dallas, Texas; her daughters, Debra J. Menk of Boulder, Colo., Sandra J. Mathis of Jacksonville, and Linda S. Pickering of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her brothers, Sylvanus Sean Warren and William Allen Warren; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A private family memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Miller, J.K.
CLEMMONS - J.K. Miller passed away on April 7, 2004, surrounded by his family at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Miller was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Yadkin County to the late Grady W. and Beatrice R. Miller. He retired from Western Electric after 26 years of service, served on the Forsyth County Board of Adjustment and was an active member of Clemmons First Baptist Church for 38 years. He served in World War II and was a Mason for Harmon Masonic Lodge. In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gaynelle Cox; a brother, Grady W. Miller; and a son-in-law, W. Russell Blackburn. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Lou Reavis Miller, of Clemmons; two daughters, Judy K. Blackburn of Orlando, Fla., and Jill K. (Dave) Ardoin of Clearwater, Fla.; and three sons, John K. (Linda) Miller Jr. of Clemmons, Jack K. (Marilyn) Miller of Clemmons and Jeff K. (Beth) Miller of Jacksonville, Fla. He is also survived by his siblings, Sallie Virginia Steelman, Charles (Melba) Miller, Marie (Gene) Miller, Bertha Lee Barnowsky, Jerry (Gudny) Miller, Larry (Rosemary) Miller and Bill (Sue) Miller; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Miller. He was called "Papa John" by 12 grandchildren and three (soon to be four) great-grandchildren. Viewing will be at 10:30 a.m. today, April 10. A celebration of life service will follow at 11 a.m. at Clemmons First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will follow at the church. Overfelt, Mildred Crosier
ROANOKE, Va. - Mildred Crosier Overfelt, 84, of Roanoke passed away Thursday, April 8, 2004. She was the widow of Eldridge Herman Overfelt and was retired from Crobucks and CVS Drug Store. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Overfelt of Pfafftown, N.C.; her granddaughters, Kimberly Doria and Mario Doria; her great-grandchildren, Taylor Doria and Dylan Doria, all of Naples, Fla.; and her great-nieces, Debbie Sallee and Chris Sallee of Dallas, Texas, Ann Evory and the Rev. Dan Evory of Stockport, Ohio, Detra and Gary Shinn of Roanoke, and Tommy and Denise Crosier. A crypt-side service will be conducted at noon today, April 10, with the Rev. Harold Moyer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Church of the Brethren, 416 Church Ave., Roanoke, VA 24016. Arrangements are being handled by Oakey's South Chapel.
Swink, Pearl Elizabeth Gough
Mrs. Pearl Elizabeth Gough Swink, 94, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem following a period of declining health. Mrs. Swink was born March 6, 1910, in Yadkin County, the daughter of the late Calvin and Martha Ellen Chamberlain Gough. She was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and was a faithful nursery worker for a number of years. She loved to quilt and was an avid gardener who enjoyed working in her flowers. Mrs. Swink was preceded in death by her husband, Francis M. Swink Sr., in 1990; and by two daughters, Janet Sue Swink in 1972, and Wanda Edwards in 1983. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. Surviving are two daughters, Peggy S. Holt of Winston-Salem and Linda S. Shortt of Pfafftown; a son, Francis M. Swink Jr. and wife, Mildred of Fries, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Tonia Snow, Sharon Long, Terry Swink, Craig Swink, Rhonda Jones, Lisa Horton, Kelly Holt, Sandye Williamson, Robin Doss and Billy Edwards; four stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Simmons of Yadkinville. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, at Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Harvey. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The Swink family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Mrs. Jayne Cash Wesley of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, April 6, 2004. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 10, at Stokesdale Church of God, 9081 U.S. Hwy. 158, with Pastor Gwathney Leak officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Williams, Natalie Purdom
ELKIN - Mrs. Natalie Purdom Williams, age 88, of Ivy Circle, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Williams was born Feb. 27, 1916, in Blackshear, Ga., to Archibald "Archie" and Mildred Inslee Purdom. Mrs. Williams was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church, where she served as organist from 1952 to 1982, and was one of the original four founders of the Appalachian State University music department. Along with Fran Greene and Nellie Ruth Irwin, she was a founding member of Community Chorus. Mrs. Williams taught music at Boonville, Jonesville and Elkin schools from 1950 to 1960, and taught privately from 1955 to 1990, instructing over a thousand students. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Livingston Williams; and a sister, Cynthia Matthews. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Lynn Williams of Thurmond; a daughter, Mildred Williams of Elkin; and two sisters, Mildred Morris of Douglasville, Ga., and Jean Hiers of Las Cruces, N.M. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, April 10, at Elkin First Baptist Church by Dr. Bill Johnson, the Rev. Joe Dell Rust and the Rev. Mike Lane. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Elkin First Baptist Church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Williams family.

Pamela Gail Wood, 56, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born Sept. 6, 1947, in England, Ark., to Helen Wood Brady and the late Vascar Wood. Pam lived in Winston-Salem for 32 years and was employed by B.E. Aerospace for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, Jimmy Wood. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her good friend and caregiver, Polly Hamrick of Winston-Salem; and her sisters, Sonja Nichols and Maggie Conklin, both of Granbury, Texas, Linda Archer and her husband, Kenneth of Sheridan, Ark., and Becky Collins of Hilo, Hawaii. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today, April 10, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Funeral Home in Winston-Salem. Family and friends will receive visitors after the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 12, at Union Valley Cemetery in Coy, Ark. Barringer, Jerry Van
SUFFOLK, Va. - Mr. Jerry Van Barringer, 65, of Suffolk, formerly of Winston-Salem, N.C., passed away on Friday, April 2, 2004, at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk. He was born May 8, 1938, in Forsyth County, N.C., to the late Adam Barringer Jr. and Anne Kaiser Barringer. Mr. Barringer was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a licensed electrician. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; an infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Barringer; and a grandson, David Scott Wilson Jr. Surviving are a daughter, Debbie (David) Wilson of King, N.C.; a son, Stacy (Beth) Barringer with whom he was living in Suffolk; four grandchildren, Joshua Barringer, Mason Barringer, Britney Huff and Jody Huff; a brother, Danny (Linda) Barringer of Rural Hall, N.C.; two sisters, Brenda Morefield of Dallas, Texas, and Patricia (Ronald) Byrd of Union Grove, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C. Cline, Rufus William
Mr. Rufus William Cline was born in Forsyth County to the late Clarence Marion Cline and Pearl Pauline Shelton Cline on Jan. 23, 1926. He departed this life on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He attended Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools. Mr. Cline served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked for and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 35 years of employment. He loved to travel around the country and camp. Mr. Cline was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Cline was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Cline Phillips; a brother, Billy Eugene Cline; and a daughter, Dee Anna Cline. He leaves to cherish loving memories his loving wife of 54 years, Doris Plowman Cline; three daughters, Jean (Ray) Brewer of Winston-Salem, Patsy Black of Sophia and Carol Cline of the home; a son, Charles (Robin) Cline of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Tracy, Jason and wife, Wendy, Matthew, Kristin and husband, Derrick, and Nicholas and Anna; a great-granddaughter, Ivy; two sisters, Betty Tuttle and Edith (Jimmy) Robertson, both of Winston-Salem; three sisters-in-law, Lillian Schoolfield of Kernersville, Shelby Cline of East Bend and Martha Plowman of Concord; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Richard Wallace officiating. Mr. George Hardee will also speak. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, April 5, at the funeral home. Mr. Cline will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
