LARUEL SPRINGS - Mrs. Alma Colvard Church, 82, the wife of Jim M. Church, died Tuesday at her home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Boone Family Funeral Home in West Jefferson.
Clark, William S. "Bill"
STUART, Va. - Mr. William "Bill" S. Clark, 76, of 2045 Lone Ivy Road died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Woolwine, Va., Oct. 13, 1926, to the late William Bryan Clark and the late Hollis DeHart Clark. He was a merchant for more than 50 years with Orchard View Marker until retiring. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Cecil and was a member of Ross Harbour United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June R. Clark, and a brother, Roger Clark. He is survived by a daughter, JoAnna Lee "Jody" Clark, of Collinsville, Va.; two sons, James Clark of Woolwine and William Larry Clark of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Charlotte Ann Spencer and Aylees Turner, both of Woolwine; three brothers, Mike Clark of Woolwine, Tom Clark of Bassett, Va., and Ray Lee Clark of Stuart; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Howell Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Howell Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of arrangements.

Day, Charles Samuel
WILKESBORO - Mr. Charles Samuel Day, 58, of Sandwedge Road died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro with Dr. N. Nelson Granade Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Mountlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Day was born in Chester, S.C., Nov. 2, 1944, to Charles Hampton Day Jr. and Christine Browne Day. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro. Mr. Day was a real-estate investor and developer and had worked in managerial capacities with several trucking companies. He was a lifelong member of the Wilkes Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Mr. Day was a wonderful father and husband who made his family his top priority. He succeeded in bringing his joy of life to all who knew him. Mr. Day is survived by his wife, Lynn Wellborn Day, of the home; two sons, Chris Day of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Josh Day of Los Angeles, Calif.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Mary Wellborn of Wilkesboro; and his extended family and many friends. The family will receive at the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro Building Fund, P.O. Box 458, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Durham Jr., James Robert "Bob"
LEWSVILLE - Mr. James Robert "Bob" Durham Jr., 78, passed away Monday, March 31, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Cedartown, Ga. to James Robert Durham Sr. and Faye Mundy Durham. Before graduating from Reynolds High School and Draughon Business College, he worked for Hanes Dye and Finishing Co. of Winston-Salem and worked his way through the ranks to retire as president of the company in 1970. He had already entered the building business as president and owner of his own company, Vineyard Enterprises Inc. and completed the Regency Apartments at 3401 Old Vineyard Road, a highly successful 130 apartment complex. He also built several homes for his family and friends on an 82 acre private development in Lewisville, known as Beechwood. Employment at Hanes Dye was interrupted by World War II as he spent three years in North Africa, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Saudia Arabia as an administrator and traveling auditor and won commendations from his commanding general. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucile Mundy Durham; and a brother Bill. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy White Durham of the home; a son, Cliff Durham and wife Linda of Lewisville; three daughters, Leigh Jarvis and husband David, Delle Clithero and husband John, all of Lewisville and Mignon Durham of Penland; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Judith White Nathans and husband Syd of Durham and Jan White Walch of Huntersville; three stepsons, Jasper White and wife Carolyn of Lexington, Jeffrey White of Winston-Salem and Jere White and wife Liz of Clemmons; eight stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Jeanne Evans of Virginia Beach, Va. and Sue Spence of Arlington, Va.; and a sister-in-law, Catheryne Grogan of Athens, Ga. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lewisville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Faggert and the Rev. Donald Routh officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Hauser, Lillian Sheek
Mrs. Lillian Sheek Hauser, 90, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie. Mrs. Hauser was born in Davie County, Sept. 12, 1912, to the late John Daniel and Maggie Griffith Sheek. She was marriage to Robert Reid Hauser, who preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1978. Mrs. Hauser was a lifelong member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church, which she attended until her health failed. Surviving are two daughters, Frances Boyer and husband, Norris, of Advance and Dorothy Breedlove and husband, Paul, of Winston-Salem; a son, Dr. John R. Hauser, of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, Larry Boyer and wife, Linda, Randy Boyer and wife, Janice, Paul Breedlove Jr. and wife, Debbie, Alisa Breedlove Arslan and husband, Mark, John Reid Hauser Jr., Jim Hauser and wife, Lauren, and Daniel Hauser; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Sheek Barefoot, of Castle Haynes. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Craddock and the Rev. Michael Waters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Hutchins, Stella Harrison
Mrs. Stella Harrison Hutchins, 93, of Walnut Street died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at her home. Mrs. Hutchins was born June 9, 1909, in Surry County to Oscar and Lucinda Flinchum Harrison. She was a charter member and the oldest member of Pinedale Christian Church. Mrs. Hutchins was a special lady. She was giving, caring and loved by all who knew her. The family wishes to express their love and appreciation for all the kindness shown by her friends and family. Mrs. Hutchins was predeceased by an infant son, Roger; her husband, Howard Monroe Hutchins; and a brother, Howard Harrison. She is survived by a son, Calvin Hutchins and wife, Susan of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Ryan of Winston-Salem; and a brother, Paul Harrison of Mocksville. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel with the Rev. Bob McCaskill and the Rev. Jeff Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Mr. Hayes Masten Jones, 28, of Winston-Salem, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 12, 1974, in Forsyth County to Larry "Mac" and Jean Mullis Jones. Mr. Jones is survived by his mother and father of Winston-Salem; a sister, Beth and husband Spencer Whittle of Winston-Salem; and an aunt, Carol and husband Fred Lee of Tarboro. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by the Rev. Roland Barnhardt. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
