HARRISON
Mrs. Diane Samuel Witherspoon Harrison, of 303 Bayberry Drive, Greensboro, N.C. was born in Winston-Salem to Willie and Lena Witherspoon, Sr. She attended the W-S/Forsyth Co. public schools and was a 1978 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mrs. Harrison was currently employed as an instructor in the Compensatory Education component of GTCC's Literacy and Basic Skills program. In 1992 she received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Instructor in Literacy and Basic Skills. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Greensboro. She departed this life Saturday evening, November 13, 1999 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a period of illness. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. from the St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. George Brooks, Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Greensboro, N.C., eulogist. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church. In addition to her parents, she leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Nicholas and Zackery Harrison of the home; her husband, James Henery Harrison, III; one sister, Sandra Gayles Banner; two brothers, Jerry Witherspoon and Willie Witherspoon, Jr. all of Winston-Salem; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Henery Harrison, II; and many other relatives and friends. KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. Gary Walter Hogrefe, 55, of 7213 Blackmoor Rd., died Thursday, November 11, 1999 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on March 1, 1944 in Henry County, Ohio, to Norma H. (Miller) and Walter Frederick Hogrefe. Mr. Hogrefe was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He was a lifelong semi-truck driver, having been employed by Roadway Express since 1971. He was a member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, the Teamster Local #391, and was a former member of American Legion. Surviving in addition to his father of Napoleon, Ohio, are his wife, Mrs. Kathy Ann Houk Hogrefe of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Steve and Kristine Sochia of Durham; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Heidi Hogrefe of Reidsville; a brother and his wife, Steve and Joan Hogrefe of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; a sister and her husband, Connie and Terry Wolf of Napoleon, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Katie Hogrefe. Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 1999, at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, Kernersville by Rev. Jeff Wertz. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Garden of Memory. HARMONY -- Miss Patty Sue Johnson, 61, of 233 Cartwright Road, Harmony, N.C., passed away Monday, November 15, 1999 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born August 10, 1938 the daughter of the late Reuben Washington Johnson, Sr. and Grace Cash Johnson. Miss Johnson was retired from Blackwelder Manufacturing Co. in Mocksville and was a member of Winthrop Friends Meeting. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Richard, Rex, and B.F. Johnson; and one sister, Mary J. Mullis. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Sarah C. Johnson of Harmony and Mrs. Helen J. Baugus, and her husband, Howard of Elkin; three brothers, Reuben W. Johnson, Jr. and wife, Willie of Hamptonville, James Clay Johnson and wife, Geraldine of Hamptonville, and Paul G. Johnson and wife, Carolyn of Hobbs, New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony Chapel officiated by Rev. Harold Salmons and Rev. Mike Burchette. Burial will be in Iredell Memorial Gardens. Willie Mae Macklis, 66, of 2820 N. Glenn Ave., passed away on November 12, 1999 (Friday) at Baptist Hospital. Her graveside service will be on Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery with Bishop Fredrick D. Patterson and Evangelist Alice Faye Mitchell officiating. Ms. Macklis was preceded in death by her mother, Lula McCullough Macklis Jackson; her brother, Robert Lee "Can't Talk" Macklis on May 16, 1992; and her niece, Lula Ann Williams-Hughes. She leaves to cherish her fond memories her sister, Wilma Williams; her devoted nephew, Hilton Williams both of the city; brother, General and wife, Herlenia Jackson of the city; her sister, Lauralee (Clyde) Brather; devoted cousin, Lydia Jean Jackson; aunt, Martha McCollough of Buffalo, N.Y.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Remels Jay McFadden, 66, of 1612 North Patterson Avenue, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 1999 at the Forsyth Medical Center. He was a native of Lake City, S.C. and had resided in Winston-Salem, N.C. for nearly fifty years. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds/Archer Aluminum Division. He is survived by his wife, Mattie M. McFadden of Winston-Salem; five children, James McCalister of Reading, Pa, Dwayne Cooper of Lake City, S.C., Calvin R. McFadden, Angela L. (Kenneth) Myers, and Delaine McFadden all of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Aaron McFadden of Winston-Salem, T.J. McFadden of Olanta, S.C., and David (Patricia) McFadden of Camden, S.C.; two devoted nieces, LaToya McCalister and Sherry Smith; a special nephew, Aaron Wardlow; a dear friend, Albert Burgess; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with interment to follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. PETTY
Robert Samuel Petty, 77, of 2357 Ardmore Terrace, Winston-Salem, died November 12, 1999, at the VA Hospital in Durham.
A graveside service with full military honors was held Sunday in Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ Cemetery in Pittsboro, N.C.
He was a native of Chatham County, and was a retired Master Sergeant of the United States Army, serving in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam.
PRITCHARD
KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. James Ronald Pritchard, 60, of Bradford Village, Kernersville, died Sunday, November 14, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born November 8, 1939 in Randolph County to the late James Otis and Leona Ruth Chisholm Pritchard.
He was a heavy equipment hauler for Spaugh Concrete, Hoots Concrete, and L.A. Reynolds Landscaping.
He was a member of Hane Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Graves Pritchard.
Surviving are a son, James Alan Pritchard of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Ruth Ann Pritchard Siebert of Winston-Salem, and Donna Long of Walkertown.
Also surviving, are three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel by Rev. Robert Hutchens and Rev. Ron Groce.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
SHOEMAKER
Mr. John Howard Shoemaker, 82, 3715 Northampton Dr., Winston-Salem, N.C., passed away Monday, November 15, 199 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Mr. Shoemaker was born in Iredell County, to the late John H. and Dora Rash Shoemaker on May 25, 1917.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities, and was a self employed Contractor.
Mr. Shoemaker was married to Mary Mullis Shoemaker who died in 1992.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Ruel and James and two sisters, Sallie Templeton and Erby Marlow Warren.
Surviving is his wife, Melba Walker Beeson Shoemaker of the home; one sister, Edna Ives (Ed) of Suffolk, Va.; three brothers, Ernest Shumaker (Blanche) of Bridgewater, Va., Harold Shoemaker (Wilma) of Sebring, Fla., and Roy Shoemaker (Lee), Statesville, N.C.; three step-children, Jane Oakley (Earl) of Kernersville, N.C., Philip Beeson of New Bern, N.C, and Ann Beeson of Walkertown, N.C.; two step-granddaughters, Julie and Jana Oakley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church by Dr. Cecil Cave, Rev. William Wease, and Rev. Jim Cohn. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, Statesville, N.C. SUGG
SMITHFIELD -- Burton G. (Bubbsie) Sugg, 80 year old retiree from the U.S. postal Service, died Sunday.
He served in Europe during WWII with the HQ Btry 113th FA BN, U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. John Causey.
Interment will follow in Hills of Neuse Memory Gardens.
Surviving is his wife, Hallie Mae Daughtey Sugg; daughters, Eve Creech and her husband, Paul of Smithfield and Kay Stollmack of Charlotte; brothers, Jefferson L. Sugg of Cary and Edward Rodin Sugg of Winston-Salem; a sister, Betty Welch of Smithfield; and grandchildren, Melissa Creech, Paul Creech, and Michael Stollmack.
The family will receive friends at Underwood Funeral Home Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
WILLIAMS
SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. -- Mr. Kent Raymond Williams, 40, a resident of Surfside Beach, S.C., died in Conway, S.C. on Friday evening, November 12, 1999.
He was born in Boston, Mass. on July 12, 1959 to Clyde Raymond Williams and Eleanor MacDonald Williams.
Most of his life was lived in Winston-Salem, where he graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1977.
He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Class of 1981.
Mr. Williams was employed by Clayton Mobile Homes in Conway, S.C.
He was an excellent salesman and had received a number of professional awards.
He was a golfer and loved jogging on the beach.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Sherry Gregory Williams, of Surfside Beach; daughter, Daryl Williams, of Surfside Beach; his mother and father, of Winston-Salem; one brother, Scott Lee Williams and his wife, Julie, of Burlington; two sisters, Karen Curl and her husband, Darrell, and Robin W. Hauser and her husband, Scott, all of Winston-Salem; two uncles, Johnny Williams, of Greensboro and Ted Williams, of Mt. Airy; and four nieces, Jenna, Krista, and Lisa Williams, of Burlington, and Haley Curl, of Winston-Salem.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Forsyth Memorial Park, conducted by Rev. J. Marion Rector.
