BROWN
STATESVILLE -- Mrs. Edna Fox Brown, 96, of Statesville, died Saturday evening, November 13, 1999 in Meadowbrook Manor, Clemmons, N.C. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 16 at Oakwood Cemetery, Statesville, N.C., with Dr. Jack Causey officiating. The family will receive friends at Nicholson Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7:00-8:30. Mrs. Brown, widow of David Leon Brown, Sr., was retired from the Iredell County Department of Social Services and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Brown Holland, of Winston-Salem; a son, David L. Brown, Jr., of Statesville; four grandchildren, Peggy Stewart and Paul Holland, Jr., of Winston-Salem, Daniel Brown, of Galletin, Tenn., and Thomas Brown, of Statesville; and six great-grandchildren, Kendall and Clay Brown, of Statesville, and Marie Tuttle, Chad Livingood, Amanda Holland, and Chris Holland, of Winston-Salem. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 815 Davie Ave., Statesville, N.C. 28677. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Brown.

CALDWELL
Mr. Jason Wyman Caldwell, III, ("Bird"), 48, of 612 West 23rd Street, died Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at W.F.U. Baptist Medical Center. He was born September 7, 1951 to Jason W. Caldwell, Sr. and Mamie H. Caldwell. He was a graduate of North Forsyth High School and attended N.C.C.U. He was a professional football player with the Los Angeles Rams. Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Mamie H. Caldwell; two daughters, Jasmine Perkins and Champaque Pate; one sister, Patricia Caldwell, of the home; his grandmother, Ms. Lula Hardy, of Winston-Salem; a niece, Chana Caldwell, of Winston-Salem; six aunts; two uncles; two devoted friends, Shirley Flowers and Bronna Flowers, both of Winston-Salem; a host of cousins; and many friends. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Monday, November 15 at Mercy Seat Holy Church, with Bishop T.R. Rice officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the church. The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence, where the family may also be contacted. Arrangements entrusted to and services will be conducted by Gilmore Funeral Directors.

FREEMAN
Mrs. Helen Grubbs Freeman, 78, of 2906 Burke Place Ct., died Sunday, November 14, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 3, 1921 in Forsyth County to the late Cyrus and Minnie White Grubbs. Mrs. Freeman was a member of Mount Pleasant Methodist Church and was an accountant for Western Electric before retiring. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Efrim, Cromer, and Cyrus; and one sister, Pauline G. Zimmerman. Surviving are one son, Everette Flay Freeman, III, of Winston-Salem; one sister, Ruby G. Myers, of Kensington, Md.; and one brother, Joe F. Grubbs, of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Ellen Knight and husband, Phil, of Winston-Salem, Bryan Freeman, of Greensboro, Lori Flanigan and husband, Charlie, of Charleston, W. Va., and Mary Gilbert and husband, Scott, of Woodstock, Ga.; 10 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Ben, Courtney, Max, Aren, Rachel, Katie, Hannah, Amy, and David; and a special companion, Blake Ferguson. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 16 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Rev. Patrick Hamrick will officiate. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and following the service, at the home of a granddaughter, Ellen Knight, 671 Brentwood Court. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C South Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

HEDRICK
LEXINGTON -- Mr. J.W. Hedrick, 74, of West Center Street Ext., died Saturday, November 13, 1999 in Lexington Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hedrick was born in Davidson County on March 13, 1925 to William Henry Hedrick and Ida Swing Hedrick. He attended Ashemore Business College and Draughn Business College. He was a former member of the West Lexington Volunteer Fire Dept. and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He owned and operated J.W. Hedrick Lumber and Logging. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Dare Koontz Hedrick, of the home; two sons, Jay Kelly Hedrick and wife, Debbie, and Gregory Neal Hedrick and wife, Norma, all of Lexington; three daughters, Belinda Hale and husband, Phillip, of Tobaccoville, Pamela Deitz and husband, Nathan, and Melissa Hedrick, all of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Brenn Hedrick, Brandon Hedrick, Tiffany Deitz, Andrea Deitz, and Sterling Hedrick, all of Lexington, and April Hale and Katie Hale, of Tobaccoville; one brother, Lowell Hedrick and wife, Rachel, of Lexington; and four sisters, Lucille Garner, Betty Rose Harvey and husband, Jimmy, and Nancy Swing, all of Lexington, and June Lambeth and husband, John, of Myrtle Beach. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 16 at Paul's Chapel United Church of Christ, where Mr. Hedrick was a member. Rev. Richard McDuffie will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday at Davidson Funeral Home, and other times, at the home on West Center St. Ext.

HICKS
MOCKSVILLE -- Mrs. June Marion Hicks, 79, of Yadkinville Road, died early Sunday morning, November 14, 1999 at Autumn Care of Mocksville. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 15 in First United Methodist Church of Mocksville, with Rev. Charles Turner officiating. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery. The family requests memorials be considered for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 1401 Old Mill Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103 or the Choir Fund of Mocksville First United Methodist Church, 305 North Main Street, Mocksville, N.C. 27028. Mrs. Hicks was born in Pinnacle, N.C. (Surry County) on September 15, 1920 to the late S. S. and Nora Hunt Marion and was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Davie County School System for 36 years. She was a graduate of Brevard College and continued her graduate studies at UNC in Chapel Hill and Appalachian State Teachers College, where she was awarded her M.S. degree. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Mocksville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Thomas Hicks, in 1969; and by a brother, H. Dean Marion. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Lynne Hicks Byerly and her husband, Jerry W. Byerly, of Mocksville; two grandsons, Jerry W. Byerly, Jr. (J.J.) and William Michael Byerly; eight brothers and sisters, Gertrude (Clarence) Allen and Charlie (Flo) Marion, of Pinnacle, Roxie M. Shaffer, of Tabor City, Violet M. Simmons, of Rural Hall, Nina M. (Bill) Cook, of Pilot Mountain, Mack (Joan) Marion, of Jacksonville, Nathaniel (Carolyn) Marion, of North Wilkesboro, and Donald (Kay) Marion, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two very special friends, Lucille Brown and Will Furches.

MACKIE
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Service for Janet Bulluck Mackie, 58, will be held Tuesday, November 16 at 12:00 noon at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church, with burial in the church memorial garden. Visitation will be Monday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Mary's Episcopal Church Stained Glass Window Fund, 115 Tram Rd., Columbia, S.C. 29210. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Mackie died Saturday, November 13, 1999. Born on April 27, 1941 in Rocky Mount, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Aaron Joshua and Lucy Rogers Bulluck. She graduated from Wake Forest University in 1963 with a bachelors degree in history. She taught history at Gray High School in Winston-Salem, N.C. prior to moving to Columbia in 1974. She worked as a docent at the Robert Mills House and the Columbia Museum of Art. She also worked in the marketing department of Midlands Technical College and, in the Boutique of Stein Mart. She served on the Vestry and the Altar Guild at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church and was active in service to her church until her death. Surviving are her husband, William M. Mackie, Jr., of Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Susan Mackie, of Sumter and Collin and Cammie Mackie, of Greenville; granddaughters, Clare and Mellette Mackie; and sister, Norma Bulluck Turnage, of Rocky Mount, N.C.

MORTON
KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. Luther Edmond "Billy" Morton, Jr. passed away November 13, 1999 at Bradford Village West, Kernersville, N.C. He was born July 22, 1925 in Wilmington, N.C., the son of the late Luther Edmond and Nannie K. Morton. Upon his mother's death in 1984, he was moved from Wilmington to Kernersville. Surviving are his brothers, Gerald K. Morton and Donald R. Morton, of Winston-Salem; several nieces and nephews; and one special niece, Nancy M. Connell, of Florida. Mr. Morton had been a member of Grace Street Methodist Church in Wilmington. A graveside service will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington, N.C. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Cerebral Palsy of N.C., PO Box 27707, Raleigh, N.C. 27611-7707. Billy was a lifelong cerebral palsy patient, and the family thanks the staff and volunteers of Bradford Village West for their understanding, care, and kindness to him. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

PHILLIPS
KERNERSVILLE -- Mrs. Annie Lou Phillips Phillips, 77, of Kernersville, died Friday, November 12, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. Annie was born on July 24, 1922 in Forsyth County, a daughter of the late John and Victoria Bodenheimer Phillips. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and retired from Adams Millis. Survivors include her son, Robert W. Phillips, of Kernersville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Phillips; and her son, Donald C. Phillips. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 15, 1999 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Charles Martin officiating. Memorials may be sent in Annie's memory to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 4507 Thomasville Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27107.

REAVIS
MOCKSVILLE -- Mrs. Katie Carolyn Gough Reavis, 54, of Rocky Dale Lane, died Saturday, November 13, 1999 at Wake Forest University/Baptist Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16 in Eaton Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Norman Frye officiating. Burial will be in Eatons Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Monday night from 7:00-9:00. Mrs. Reavis was born in Winston-Salem on January 10, 1945 to the late Vodie H. and Blanche Cranfill Gough and was a homemaker. She had also been a secretary and clerical worker with Shutt-Hartman Construction Company. She was a graduate of the James A. Gray High School Class of 1963, and was a member and past president of the N.C. Paraplegic Association. She was a member of Hope Baptist Tabernacle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Wayne Reavis, in 1998. Also preceding her was a daughter, Venus A. Reavis, in 1981; her father, Vodie H. Gough, in 1997; her mother, Blanche Cranfill Gough, in 1998; and three brothers, Ralph S. Gough, in 1935, Sammy L. Gough, in 1987, and Calvin Gough, in 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Bridgett Engle and Leslie Reavis, both of Mocksville; a granddaughter, Morgan Bryant; her brother, Vergil Gough, of Winston-Salem; and an aunt, Mary Gough, of Mocksville. The family requests memorials be considered for the N.C. Paraplegic Association, 2856 Monticello Drive, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27106.

REID
Mrs. Geneva Lamb Reid, 85, of Salemtowne-The Moravian Retirement Community, died Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center following several years of declining health. Mrs. Reid was born on June 15, 1914 in Golconda, Ill. to John O. Lamb and Addie Brown Lamb. She received a B.S. Degree in Business from Florida State College for Women, now Florida State University. She came to Winston-Salem as a young woman and was secretary to the executive vice president of Security Life and Trust Company. She married John Robert Reid on October 23, 1946. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1973. For many years, Mrs. Reid was a member of First Baptist Church, Winston-Salem. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Earl M. Lamb; three sisters, Audrey M. Jacobs, Claudine Bocock, and Margaret Lamb. Surviving are four sisters, A. Loree Kuehne, of New Orleans, La., H. Arlene Dillard and Katherine Vernell Lamb, of Ridgeway, Ill., and Leota C. Sasser, of Harrisburg, Ill.; and 17 nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Vogler & Sons on Reynolda Rd., conducted by Dr. David M. Hughes. Burial will be in Ellaville, Ga. at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, with Giddens Funeral Home in charge. Memorials may be made to the Mission Memory Fund of First Baptist Church, 501 Fifth St., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101.
