PLUNKETT
PILOT MOUNTAIN -- Homer Dean Plunkett, 64, of Pinnacle Hill Apartments, #78, died Friday, November 12, 1999 at Northern Hospital of Surry County, Mt. Airy, N.C. Mr. Plunkett was born in Forsyth County on November 29, 1934 to Paul Samuel and Gladys M. Plunkett. He worked for Thomasville Furniture Company for 15 years, retired from Blue Bird Cab, and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Walter and Marlana Plunkett, of Westfield, N.C., David Dean Plunkett, of Greensboro, N.C., and Samuel Paul Plunkett, of East Bend, N.C.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel in Pilot Mountain, N.C. by Evangelist Richard R. Bowman. Burial will be in Oakgrove Cemetery, Rural Hall, N.C. The family will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Monday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
REID
Mrs. Geneva Lamb Reid, 85, of Salemtowne-The Moravian Retirement Community, died Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center following several years of declining health. Mrs. Reid was born on June 15, 1914 in Golconda, Ill. to John O. Lamb and Addie Brown Lamb. She received a B.S. Degree in Business from Florida State College for Women, now Florida State University. She came to Winston-Salem as a young woman and was secretary to the executive vice president of Security Life and Trust Company. She married John Robert Reid on October 23, 1946. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1973. For many years, Mrs. Reid was a member of First Baptist Church, Winston-Salem. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Earl M. Lamb; three sisters, Audrey M. Jacobs, Claudine Bocock, and Margaret Lamb. Surviving are four sisters, A. Loree Kuehne, of New Orleans, La., H. Arlene Dillard and Katherine Vernell Lamb, of Ridgeway, Ill., and Leota C. Sasser, of Harrisburg, Ill.; and 17 nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Vogler & Sons on Reynolda Rd., conducted by Dr. David M. Hughes. Burial will be in Ellaville, Ga. at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, with Giddens Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. REID
Mrs. Mary Joyner Grubbs Reid, 74, passed away Friday, November 12, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born October 27, 1925 in Winston-Salem to Robert Lee and Ada Collins Joyner. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ervin J. Grubbs, Jr.; one son, Jakey Lee Grubbs; her second husband, Edgar J. Reid; and four brothers, R.L. Joyner, Jr., Lorton Joyner, Raymond Joyner, and Kelly Ray Joyner. Mrs. Reid lived all of her life in Forsyth County, was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. She is survived by her daughter, Kristine Joyner Reid; a special friend, Wallace Evans; five sisters, Ruby McGee, of Winston-Salem, Clorinda Renegar, of Rural Hall, Zerilda Amos, of Walkertown, and Roberta Grantham and Arlene Lowe, of Winston-Salem; and three brothers, William Joyner, of Mocksville, Bobby Joyner, of Walkertown, and Ovilla Joyner, of Tobaccoville. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, November 14, 1999 at Woodland Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Tim Gammons and Rev. Zeno Groce. Mrs. Reid will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. ROBERTSON
Mr. Wayne Edwin Robertson, 71, of Winston-Salem, died Friday morning at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following several years of declining health. He was born on May 14, 1928 in Winston-Salem to Edwin R. Robertson and Jeanette Rupard Robertson. He served with the U.S. Army following World War II. After attending Southern School of Printing in Nashville, he went to work for the Danbury Reporter. For 31 years, Mr. Robertson worked for the Winston-Salem Journal, retiring in 1990 as the night production manager. He loved the coast, fishing, hunting, and raising beagles. He was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Tesh; and a sister, Betty Hamby. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Briggs Robertson, of the home; one son, Barry Robertson and wife, Jill, of Clemmons; three daughters, Linda Fox and husband, Jim, of Winston-Salem, Barbara Sturgill and husband, Tom, of Winston-Salem, and Julie Williams and husband, Scott, of Burlington; six grandchildren, Emery and Hunter Morefield, Joshua Robertson, and Jenna, Krista, and Lisa Williams; one great-grandchild, Anna Morefield; one brother, Dewey S. Robertson and wife, Jean; and two sisters, Emma Lou Douthit and husband, W.A. and Sarah Ingram and husband, Thomas. A graveside service will be held at Pfafftown Cemetery Sunday at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Chaplain Rennie Adcock. SCHUYLER
RURAL HALL -- Pastor H. Gene Schuyler, 64, of Norman Dr., died unexpectedly Saturday, November 13, 1999. Pastor Schuyler was born in Grayson County, Va. on May 23, 1935, the son of the late Charles Maynard and Cleo Bryant Schuyler. He had been the pastor of Cedardale Baptist Church in Winston-Salem for 18 years. Surviving are his wife, Agnes R. Schuyler, of the home; one son, Tim W. Schuyler, of Westfield; two beloved grandchildren, Trey Schuyler and Audrey Schuyler, both of King; one brother and sister-in-law, H.D. and Betty Schuyler of Winston-Salem; and a host of special friends and loved ones. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. EAST BEND -- Mr. Silas Settle, 69, of 3237 Smithtown Road, died Friday, November 12, 1999 at Yadkin Nursing Center in Yadkinville. Mr. Settle was born in Wilkes County to Will and Naomi Layell Settle. He was a member of New Home United Methodist Church. Mr. Settle was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Waddell. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Mary Matthews Settle, of the home; six children, Tony William (Debbie) Settle, of Yadkinville, Lynn (Dave) Wright, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Linda (Steve) Gough, Brenda (Steve) Hauser, Dean (Frankie) Epperson, and Glenda (David) Allred, all of East Bend; four sisters, Hallie Wooten, of Ronda, Hazel Byrd, of Mt. Airy, Annie Pearl Baugess, of Trap Hill, and Mabel Bridges, of Sarasota, Fla.; four brothers, Dwight Settle and Paul Settle, both of Ronda, Herbert Settle, of State Road, and Joe Settle, of King; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 15, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at New Home United Methodist Church by Rev. Sarah Kalish and Rev. Ben Shepherd. WILKESBORO -- Mr. Ora Sheets, 84, of Wiley Reynolds Rd., Millers Creek, died Thursday, November 11, 1999 at Britthaven Nursing Home in Wilkesboro. Mr. Sheets was born April 15, 1915 in Wilkes County to Max and Ida Bare Sheets. He was a member of Cricket Baptist Church and was retired from Carolina Mirror. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Huffman Sheets. Surviving are one son, George Sheets, of North Wilkesboro; two daughters, JoAnn Owens, of North Wilkesboro and Wanda Byers, of Millers Creek; two sisters, Lola Wayne, of Kannapolis and Dollie Miller, of Glendale Springs; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 13 at Miller Funeral Service Chapel, 180 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro, with the Rev. Dean Rector, the Rev. Felman Cheek, and the Rev. Kenneth Wiles officiating. Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Artie Walker, Mike Sheets, Chris Sheets, Tim Myers, Kevin Brown, and Keith Handy.

RONDA -- Mrs. Ruby Louvena Sparks Stroud, 91, of 797 Bagley Springs Rd., died Saturday, November 13, 1999 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. She was born March 29, 1908 in Yadkin County to Carl and Etta Dobbins Sparks. Mrs. Stroud was a homemaker and a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Frank Stroud, on May 13, 1991; a sister, Earlene Eller; and three brothers, Wayne (Judge) Sparks, Caldwell (Cullie) Sparks, and Clyde Sparks. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ella Mae Cheek, of Jonesville, Mrs. Lucy (Bill) Lawrence, of Winston-Salem; one son, Don (Betty) Stroud, of Lone Hickory; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Royall, of Hamptonville; seven grandchildren, Kevin Cheek, Beryl Shore, Zana Cheek, Byron Lawrence, Randy and Chris Stroud, and Andrea Stroud; six adopted great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 15 at Swan Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Nat Thompson and Rev. Sammy Shoaf officiating. TUTTLE
Mr. Anthony Clay "Tony" Tuttle, 42, of 5391 Pine View Drive, died Saturday, November 13, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after two years of declining health. He was born in Forsyth County on September 13, 1957, the son of Gilbert Lawrence and Barbara Grubbs Tuttle. Tony had been an auto mechanic, working with his father at Tuttle Custom Trim in Winston-Salem. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed the outdoors. Surviving are one son, Westley Tuttle-Melton, of Winston-Salem; his parents, Barbara and Gilbert Tuttle, of the home; two sisters, Lynn Rutledge and husband, Lynn, of Winston-Salem and Lisa Williams and husband, Rusty, of Advance; two nieces, Allison and Brook; a nephew, Jason; and a number of close friends. A graveside service will conducted 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 15, 1999 at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, with Mr. Billy Grubbs officiating. The Tuttle family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel.
BEDSAUL
LAMBSBURG, Va. -- Mrs. Savada Easter Bedsaul, 86, of 3315 Lambsburg Road, widow of Woodrow Wilson Bedsaul, was called to Heaven on Saturday, November 13, 1999. Mrs. Bedsaul was born on November 14, 1912 in Carroll County, Va., the eldest of 11 children of Jacob B. and Caroline Allen Easter. Mrs. Bedsaul, a graduate of Sylvatus High School and Radford College, was a gifted teacher for a host of students during her teaching career. A leader in the church and community affairs, she was a faithful member of Lambsburg Christian Church, where she served as church secretary. She was an active member of the Carroll Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, and the National Education Association. She served as president of the Carroll Education Association and later as president of the Carroll County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Bedsaul was a charter member of the Carroll County Historical Society. She worked on the compilation of the Cemetery Book, the opening of the Sidna Allen Home and its restoration, and was a great source of genealogy for family and friends. She was also a member of the Lambsburg Ruritan Club, having served as treasurer for 12 years. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Frank Hawks of Lambsburg, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, George and Ginger Bedsaul, of Warner Robbins, Ga.; six grandchildren and spouses, Gene and Ginny Hawks, of Fancy Gap, Va., Ricky Hawks, of Lambsburg, Betsy and Brian Nunn, of Lambsburg, Susan Hawks, of Lambsburg, Thomas Bedsaul, of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Virginia Bedsaul, of Warner Robbins, Ga.; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Long, of Pfafftown, N.C., Irene Clodfelter, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Glenda Dalton, of Hillsville, Va.; and three brothers, Rev. Harris Easter, of Fancy Gap, Va., Cameron Easter, of Cana, Va., and Perry Easter, of Winston-Salem, N.C.. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bedsaul was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob B. and Caroline Allen Easter; two sisters, Mabel Cox and Hazel Rippey; and two brothers, Elder Garnett Easter and Elder Allen Easter. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at 6:00 p.m. at Lambsburg Christian Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. Carlton Best. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy, and other times, at the home of Ann and Frank Hawks, 3375 Lambsburg Road, Lambsburg, Va.
