WILLIS
Mr. Henry Clay Willis, 65, a.k.a. "King" and "King Fish", died suddenly Friday, October 29, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center after suffering a stroke. Mr. Willis was born September 9, 1934 to the late Mary Leelah Willis Fielder in Orangeburg, S.C., was reared and educated in Winston-Salem where he graduated from Atkins High School and Winston-Salem State University. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He later married and relocated to Washington, D.C. for 27 years. From this union two children were born before returning to Winston-Salem fourteen years ago. He is survived by his father, Mr. Eugene Fielder of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Cynthia Page (James) of Washington, D.C.; one son, Reginald V. Willis (Jacquelyn) of Clinton, Md.; former wife, Mrs. Artelia Brindle Willis Robinson of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Donald Fielder (Barbara) of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren, Jason Page, Clinton Rogers, Talisa Jeffries, and Andrea Fields; one aunt, Mrs. Wilhelmina Long (Robert) of Winston-Salem; a uncle, Johnnie Willis (Eunice) of Clinton, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at JOHNSON HOWARD ROBINSON HOME OF MEMORY CHAPEL. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. thirty minutes prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C. WOLFE
DOBSON -- Frances (Fran) Wolfe, 59, of Surry Manor Lane, Dobson, N.C., died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 3, 1999. She was born on October 12, 1940 to the late Raymond and Maude Davis Wolfe, in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a niece. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a homemaker. Surviving are four sisters and brothers-in-law, Violette Reece of Dobson, Ruth Wilmoth of Dobson, Betty Key and Charles Ridge, of Hillsville, Va., and Annette and Delano Fowler of Dobson and by nine nieces and five nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Her body will be placed in Fairview Baptist Church on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. were the family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. and at other times at the home of her sister, Violette Reece. NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mr. William Marvin Byrd, 73, of Hillsdale Drive, North Wilkesboro, died Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born March 8, 1926 to George and Ona Elizabeth Wiles Byrd. He was a member of Fairplains Baptist Church and was a veteran with the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Ruth Brooks Byrd of the home; two daughters, Doris Stroud of Wilkesboro; one son, Marvin Byrd of Kernersville; one sister, JoEtta Perryman of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Rev. Jakie R. Byrd of Winfield, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 1999 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel conducted by Rev. Howard Laney and Dr. Paul Brunner. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 7:00 until 8:30 Thursday night. Upendo Joy Chagula,of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, October 30, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She is the infant daughter of Fredrick and Wema Mmanywa Chagula. She was born on September 17, 1999 in Forsyth County. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a twin sister, Grace; another sister, Jacqulyn; her brother, Wilbert; and grandmother, Jane N. Ubwe. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. today, November 4, 1999 at Crestview Memorial Park with Dr. James C. Hash, Sr. officiating. Foster Funeral Home is serving the Chagula family.

KERNERSVILLE -- Mrs. Carrie Lee Champion, 71, of 321 S. Cherry St., died Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Guilford Co. on June 12, 1928, a daughter of Charles Wayne and Della Church Craddock. She was a member of Main Street Methodist Church where she was active in all affairs of the church. She was also a member of the Kernersville Business Women's Club. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Collins of October 16, 1998. Surviving are two sons, Darrell Collins and William "Billy" and his wife, Sandra Collins all of Kernersville; a brother, Gene Craddock of Spartanburg, S.C.; and three grandsons, Brad Collins, Chris Collins, and Michael Collins. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 1999 at Main Street Methodist Church by Rev. Floyd Berrier. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. Jerry Don McKaughan, 62, of 1960 Brookford Rd., died Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Forsyth Co. on June 14, 1937 a son of Ira Leslie and Madie Beeson McKaughan. He was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 33 years of service. Mr. McKaughan was a member of the National Guard and the Kernersville Masonic Lodge #669. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Campbell McKaughan of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Doyle (Ashley) Blalock of Kernersville; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Calhoun of Kernersville; two brothers, Mr. Henry T. McKaughan of Florida and Mr. Ronnie McKaughan of Kernersville; his aunt, Mrs. Thelma Moran of Kernersville; and several nieces and nephews. WALNUT COVE -- Mr. Travis Maurice Morgan, 21, died Monday November 1, 1999. He was born in Forsyth County to Timothy Eugene Morgan and Judy Watts Morgan. He was a student at Rockingham Community College, attended Germanton United Methodist Church, and loved racing stock cars. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Randy Morgan and special friends, Buddy Hamlett and P.O. Shelton. RICHARDSON, TEXAS -- Bobby Grey Morris, died November 1, 1999 in Richardson, Texas. He was born on January 21, 1929 in Walkertown, N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Lillian Morris and a sister, Ramona Jean Morris. Surviving are his wife, Pat Morris and children, Debbie Morris and family, Gary Morris and family, and Lary Morris and family all from Texas. Also two brothers, Perry Morris of Clemmons and Roger Morris of Winston-Salem and four sisters, Billie Blaylock, Betty Huff, and Carolyn Bennett of Winston-Salem, and Martha Duncan of Greensboro. He attended Walkertown High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Funeral services will be held Thursday in Garland, Texas.

Mrs. Evelyn Mitchell Richardson, 73, of Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Tucker, Ga., widow of the late Mr. J. Edwin Richardson, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 1999 in Tucker, Ga. Mrs. Richardson was born in Patrick county, Va. on December 12, 1925, daughter of the late John T. and Lillie S. Mitchell. Mrs. Richardson attended Blue Ridge High School, was a graduate of Mt. Airy High School, and was a graduate of The Technical College of Greensboro, N.C. Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker and was a member of Northside Methodist Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Kitty Richardson Conrad and husband, James V. Conrad of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, John E. Richardson of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Lily R. Conrad and Christopher V. Conrad; and one brother, William T. Mitchell of Claudville, Va. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 5, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy conducted by Rev. Phillip Cole with burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery. LEXINGTON -- Mr. James Sidney Sutphin, 62, of Calvin Sowers Rd., Welcome, died Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a sudden illness. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 1999 at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel conducted by Rev. Robbie Stephens with burial in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Sutphin was born February 13, 1937 in Martinsville, Va. to Roy Conner Sutphin and Sadie Emma Lawson Sutphin. He was a retired draftsman and a former Scout Master of Troop 238 and had served in the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Hunt Sutphin of the home; a son, Norman Sutphin and his wife, Kimberly of High Point; a daughter, Lorraine Smith and her husband, Thomas of Lexington; six grandchildren; and four brothers, David Sutphin of Germanton, Tommy Sutphin of Winston-Salem, Charlie Joe Sutphin of Westfield, and Francis Sutphin of Iron Station. Master Tyler Ray Wagoner, 3, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born February 17, 1996 to Timothy Douglas and Christina C. Wagoner. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel conducted by Rev. Patrick Hamrick. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Tyler Ray Wagoner, an angel who was born on February 17, 1996, has returned to Heaven on November 2, 1999. He left behind a Mommy, Christina C. Wagoner and a Daddy, Timothy D. Wagoner. He has a brother, Joshie Wagoner and a sister, Katie Wagoner. He left behind lots of love to his Grandma (Ann Clayton), Grandma Donna and Papa Bobby (Wagoner), Memaw and Papaw (Speaks), Nonnie (Opal Mecum), Granny Clayton, Grandma and Grandpa Wagoner, Uncle Jack and Aunt Traci, Uncle Mark, Aunt Amber, cousins, C.J. and Casey, Uncle Mike, Aunt Tabby, and cousin Alex. Also his special Uncles Jeff Atkinson and Jeff (Leroy) Smith. He touched so many lives we can't begin to list them all; he misses and loves you all. He is to be remembered as brave in heart, brave in spirit and a fighter until he lost his battle at the end. Remember, he is an angel looking down and protecting us all!
