WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Mrs. Cozelle Lawrence Martin, 77, passed on October 16, 1999 in Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 21, 1999 at 12:00 at Brown's Funeral Home in Greensboro, N.C.
Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Greensboro, N.C.
MITCHELL
Mr. Herbert Mitchell, husband of the late Mrs. Edith P. Mitchell of 1218 Bretton St., formerly of 430 Granville Drive, was born May 11, 1932 in Lane, South Carolina, to the late Charles and Rosa Staggers.
He attended the Williamsburg County Schools and attended Bethel AME Church.
He was a fourteen-year veteran of the United States Army and a long-time employee of the City of Winston-Salem, before his health declined.
He recently joined Genesis Victory Outreach Church and was baptized in the name of the Lord.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by two sons and several special sisters and brothers.
He departed this life into eternal rest on Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the home of a sister in Lane, South Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his memory always, three daughters, Carolyn (Ralph) Torrence with whom he lived and Sheila (Otis) Murphy all of Winston-Salem, and Rosalyn Little of Lane, S.C.; two sons, Rodney Mitchell of Winston-Salem, N.C., and John (Margaret) Canty of Forreston, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Deloris Canty, Lane, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Kevan and Devino Torrence of the home, Lawanda (James) Brown, Kenyatta, Katreena, and Jamilia Mitchell, Courtney Murphy all of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Antwon Long of Lane, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Victoria and Alexis Mitchell, and Sharneice Brown, all of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Louanna Wilson and Trudie Parson both of Winston-Salem, Martha Perry of Jamaica, N.Y., and Virgiree Parson of Lane, S.C.; five step-sisters; four sisters-in-law, Josephine Robinson and Geneva Purvis, both of Winston-Salem, Evelyn Mitchell of Philadelphia, Pa., and Eliza Thomas of St. Albans, N.Y; two aunts and uncles; devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Austin and family of Winston-Salem; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held of Friday, October 22, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bethel AME Church in Lane, S.C.
The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.

PARKER
Mrs. Lula Grace Venable Parker, 83, of 628 Siloam Road, Mount Airy, widow of John Richard Parker, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Parker was born in Surry County, on January 26, 1916, daughter of the late James E. and Gracie Mae Edmonds Venable.
She was retired from Spencer's, Inc. of Mount Airy, and was a member of the Little Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail Johnson of Mount Airy; one son, Rhonda Ray Parker of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by one sister, Zellar Irene Watson; and one brother, J.E. Venable.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 21, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the Little Mountain Baptist Church.
The service will be conducted by Rev. Billy Watson with burial in the Skyline Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie instate 30 minutes before the funeral service.
The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Gail Johnson, 330 East Poplar Street, Mount Airy.
SMITH
Mr. James Herman, 87, of Winston-Salem, died Monday, October 18, 1999 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 20, 1912 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Mr. Smith moved to Winston-Salem, from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1969.
He retired as Vice Chairman of Thiele-Engdahl, Inc.
He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia Waller Smith; four children, William H. Smith and Wendy Parker of Richmond, Va., Ilene "Wendy" Brophy of Winston-Salem, Ilyse J. Smith of Raleigh, and Clark S. Smith and his wife, Sally of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Thomas D. Brophy, Jr. and Heather E. Brophy of Winston-Salem, and Claire and Sam Smith of Greenville; two great-grandchildren, Megan Davis Brophy and Joshua Brophy of Winston-Salem.

TEAGUE
Mrs. Florence Bodenheimer Teague, 93, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Silas Creek Manor.
Mrs. Teague was born July 6, 1906 in Forsyth County, to George Luther and Alice Nading Bodenheimer.
She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church and also the Sunshine Senior Citizens Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Roy Teague; one son, Gary Lee Teague; a brother, Paul Bodenheimer; and one sister, Alta Westmoreland.
Mrs. Teague is survived by her granddaughter, Leigh Ann Teague of Winston-Salem; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Teague also of Winston-Salem; three nieces; one nephew; and a host of cousins.
A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, October 21, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Chris Byrne at Old Mount Vernon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-9:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
THANOS
HARMONY -- Mr. Charles "Chuck" W. Thanos, died October 19, 1999.
He was a retired deputy sheriff from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Davie County Sheriff's Department.
He is survived by his wife, Adele Thanos; a daughter, Cindy; three sons, Skip, Raymond, and Charles, Jr.

MAYODAN -- Ms. Anline Turner, 76, formerly of 406 West Main Street, died Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Walnut Cove Health Care Nursing Center. BOONVILLE -- Mr. Rovy Reford Benton, 75, of 2917 Center Rd., Boonville, N.C., died Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1924, the son of Rovy L. and Jane Swaim Benton. Mr. Benton was a retired farmer and a member of Mitchell's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a veteran with the United States Navy. Mr. Benton was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Travis "Chab" Benton, Earl Benton, Thad Benton, and Garvie Benton. Mrs. Willie Mae Sharpe Gibbons, 75, of Winston-Salem, died Tuesday night, October 19, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born November 15, 1923 in Iredell County, to Willis H. and Della Pharr Sharpe. Mrs. Gibbons was a member and former Sunday School Teacher of Elon Baptist Church and had retired from P.H. Hanes Knitting Company. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William F. Oldham and her second husband, Romie A. Gibbons and a brother, Worth A. Sharpe. Surviving are two sisters, Edna Sharpe Summers of Statesville and Ethel Sharpe Culler of Advance; several nieces and nephews, Peggy Poston, Paul and Larry Summers, Bob Culler, Marilyn Peacock, Faye Thomas, and Janice McAlpine; also several great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jessie Lois Pyrtle Hayworth, 80, of 1634 Curry Rd., Kernersville, N.C., died Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born April 5, 1919, the daughter of Elder Dillard R. Pyrtle and Grace Sheppard Pyrtle. Mrs. Hayworth was a homemaker and a dedicated member of Bunker Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Her commitment to the Lord was evident by her faithful walk, her prayer life, and her constant concern for others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Grady Hayworth; three brothers, John D. Pyrtle, Benjamin N. Pyrtle, and Wilbert J. Pyrtle; and two sisters, Grace C. Pyrtle and Virginia P. Coe. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Eli (Elizabeth) Hine of Kernersville; her son, Roger G. Hayworth of High Point; four sisters, Dixie P. Eaton, Dorothy P. Lyndon, and Ann P. Barker all of Asheboro, and Rachel P. Wray of Reidsville; one brother, Samuel D. Pyrtle of Kernersville; and four grandchildren, Angela H. Cranfill, Stephanie H. Woosley, Bryan T. Minister Willie Gray Hunt, Jr. of 2157 Gerald Street Departed this world on October 19, 1999. He will celebrate his new found Heavenly Home with his father, Willie Gray Hunt, Sr.; his brother, Charles L. Hunt; and a sister, Debra Hunt. Left to cherish his loving memory are his devoted wife of thirty years, Bernice Hunt; a son, Willie Gray Hunt, III; a daughter, Debna Hunt; his mother, Dorothy Hunt; a sister, Denise (Charles) Clayton; along with a host of aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
