HOLDER
MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. Charlie Franklin Holder, 64, of 457 Sparger Road, Mount Airy, husband of Shirley Sechrist Holder, died on Sunday, October 17, 1999 at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Holder was born in Surry County, on February 26, 1935 to Mary Butcher Holder and the late Frank Holder. He was an office manager for Cardinal X-ray Corporation of Winston-Salem, for 40 years, was a former member of the Mount Airy Elks Lodge, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. Holder also served as a medical secretary in the United States Army. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Sechrist Holder of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Gary Flippin and Lisa and Michael Hawks, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Tia Flippin, Tanner Flippin, and Savannah Hawks, all of Mount Airy; and his mother, Mrs. Mary Butcher Holder of Mount Airy. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Rev. Bailey Elmore. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home and the family will receive friends at home any time at 457 Sparger Rd., Mt. Airy, N.C. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church, 2308 W. Pine St., Mt. Airy, N.C. 27030. Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy, is serving the Holder family.

IVARSSON
GREENSBORO -- Carl Gustaf Ivarsson, Sr., 79, of Greensboro, died Sunday, October 17, 1999 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel with Dr. Charles Baker and Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Ivarsson was born August 29, 1920 in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Johan Edward Ivarsson and Ane Cathrine Ivarsson. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 28 years of service. He was past Chairman of Chapter 82 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and a member of the American Society of Metals. Mr. Ivarsson was a member of College Place United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Ruth Chandler Ivarsson of the home; sons, Carl Gustaf Ivarsson, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Fayetteville, N.C. and John Chandler Ivarsson and his wife, Jennifer of Greensboro; brothers, Marcello Ivarsson of Salt Lake City, Utah and Holger Ivarsson of Copenhagen, Denmark; and a grandson, Carl Gustaf Ivarsson III. The family will receive friends tonight, Tuesday, October 19, 1999 from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home, 5926 W. Friendly Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to College Place United Methodist Church, 509 S. Tate St., Greensboro, N.C. 27403.

JOHNSON
SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Mr. Bailey James Johnson, Jr., 72, of Santa Monica, Calif., died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the Sticht Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Born February 28, 1927 to the late Vivian Baxter and Bailey Johnson, Sr., he was a well-known gourmet chef in Beverly Hills, Calif. and Hawaii. Prior to his illness, he was working on a body of poetry and fiction, and his autobiography. He is survived by his sister, Dr. Maya Angelou; and daughter, Ms. Rosa Johnson, both of Winston-Salem; two sons, Ross and Nana Johnson, of California; one nephew, Guy Bailey Johnson, of California; one great nephew, Colin Ashanti Johnson, of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Kwame, Olivia, Matema, Monique, Rosa Suzette, and Damion Emile Johnson; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Shelby Fulcher. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with Dr. Serenus T. Churn officiating. KIMBROUGH
Homegoing Service for Mr. Hobert Alphonso Kimbrough, St., went to sleep at Wake Forest Medical Center on October 14, 199 9 after an extended illness. Mr. Kimbrough was born on December 24, 1925. He is a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. Mr. Kimbrough and Mrs. Sylvia K. Rolle (Alvin) of the home; two sons, Mr. Arnold Hankins (Tammy) of Winston-Salem, and the late Mr. Hobert Kimbrough, Jr. of Pulaski, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Esther K. Miller of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Flora Featherstone of Altedena, Calif., the late Mrs. Martha Bohannon of Farmington, N.C., and the late Mrs. Corrine Robinson of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Mr. Joe Barksdale of Winston-Salem, Mr. Walter Kimbrough of Washington, D.C., and the late Mr. William Kimbrough of Pulaski, Va.; sisters-in-law, Ms. Tecora Dubose and Ms. Brenda Dubose, both of Winston-Salem; three devoted granddaughters, Mrs. Kerkeley K. Jefferys (Wallace) of Pulaski, Va., Miss Minnie Carter of Mocksville, and Little Miss Alshaundra Rolle of the home; grandsons, Mr. Christopher Kimbrough (Clara) of Winston-Salem, and Masters Alshaun and Alijah Rolle of the home; ten other grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from the Jerry C. Y Frances S. Mem. Chapel with Elder Timothy Lyons, Pastor of Exodus Primitive Baptist Church, Pilot Mtn., N.C., officiating. Interment to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to and your loving friends will conduct services, Gilmore's for Mr. Hobert Alphonso Kimbrough, Sr.

MABE
Mrs. Nannie Mae Mabe, 76, formerly of Walnut Cove, died Monday, October 18, 1999 at Rose Tara Retirement Home. Mrs. Mabe was born December 8, 1922 in Richmond County, to the late James Allen Mabe and Elizabeth Hicks Mabe. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Willow Oak Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alex McKinly Mabe; her oldest son, Fred Mabe; and her second husband, William Lewis Duggins. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Jim (Jeanie) Robbins and Mrs. James (Linda) Larimore all of Walnut Cove, N.C.; one, son and daughter-in-law, David and Kay Mabe of Walnut Cove; one sister, Marie Bowman of Walkertown, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Walnut Cove Cemetery conducted by Rev. Sam Ashburn. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson Funeral Home.

MITCHELL
Mr. Herbert Mitchell, husband of the late Mrs. Edith P. Mitchell of 1218 Bretton St., formerly of 430 Granville Drive, was born May 11, 1932 in Lane, South Carolina, to the late Charles and Rosa Staggers.
He attended the Williamsburg County Schools and attended Bethel AME Church.
He was a fourteen-year veteran of the United States Army and a long-time employee of the City of Winston-Salem, before his health declined. he recently joined Genesis Victory Outreach Church and was baptized in the name of the Lord.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by two sons and several special sisters and brothers. He departed this life into eternal rest on Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the home of a sister in Lane, South Carolina. He leaves to cherish his memory always, three daughters, Carolyn (Ralph) Torrence with whom he lived and Sheila (Otis) Murphy, all of Winston-Salem, and Rosalyn Little of Lane, S.C.; two sons, Rodney Mitchell of Winston-Salem, N.C. and John (Margaret) Canty of Forreston, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Deloris Canty, Lane, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Kevan and Devino Torrence of the home, Lawanda (James) Brown, Kenyatta, Katreena, and Jamilia Mitchell, Courtney Murphy all of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Antwon Long of Lane, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Victoria and Alexis Mitchell, and Sharneice Brown all of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Louanna Wilson and Trudie Parson both of Winston-Salem, Martha Perry of Jamaica, N.Y., and Virgiree Parson of Lane, S.C.; five step-sisters; four sisters-in-law, Josephine Robinson and Geneva Purvis both of Winston-Salem, Evelyn Mitchell of Philadelphia, Pa., and Eliza Thomas of St. Albans, N.Y; two aunts and uncles; devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Austin and family of Winston-Salem; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held of Friday, October 22, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. from the Bethel AME Church in Lane, S.C.
The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
The family may be contacted locally at the home of a daughter, Carolyn Torrence of 1218 Bretton St.

NEIGHBORS
BENSON, N.C. -- Mrs. Onie Dean Neighbors, 90, of 520 Denning Road, died Friday at her residence. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Fred Pleasant and Don Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Buies Creek Cemetery, Buies Creek. Mrs. Neighbors was born in Harnett County, on April 26, 1909, to the late Franklin and Ida Hardee Dean. She was first married to Herman Rogers and after his death married the late Robert Neighbors. Mrs. Neighbors was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include sons, Rudolph Rogers of Winston-Salem and William C. "Bill" Rogers of Durham; a sister Myrtle Pleasant of Garland; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. The family will be at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday. Flowers are welcomed, however, donations may be made to Pleasant Hill Christian Church, 4639 N.C. Hwy. 50 North, Benson, N.C. 27504.

NEWMAN
KNIGHTDALE -- Margaret Fulp "Cindy" Newman, 73, of Hodge Road, died Friday, October 15, 1999 at Rex Hospital after months of declining health. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday October 18, 1999 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4543 N.C. Hwy. 772, Madison, N.C. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Madison, N.C. Surviving are her son, Edward Timothy "Tim" Gray of Knightdale; three step-daughters, Beverly N. Sizemore of Pine Hall, Bonnie N. Almond of Madison, and Jo N. Halbrook of Cornelius; two step-sons, Reverend Norris Newman of Raleigh and Robin Newman of Madison; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucy F. Tilley of Walnut Cove. Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Winford Newman, Sr. on November 28, 1994 and a son, Michael F. Gray in 1980. Family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, October 17, 1999 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. and on Monday, October 18, 1999 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Madison, N.C.

ROYAL
Mr. Hardy Royal, 64, of 1312 Argonne Boulevard, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the Forsyth Medical Center. He was a native of Morven, N.C. and had resided in Winston-Salem, for nearly forty years. He was a faithful member of the Zion Memorial Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board, the Pastor's Aide, the Gospel Choir, and the Van Ministry. He was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with over 32 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Myers Royal of the home; one daughter, Meteza (Andre) Owens of Chalon-sur-Saone, France; his dear mother, Cassie B. Royal of Greensboro, N.C.; three sisters, Mary (Clarence) Graves and Pauline Sturdivant both of Greensboro, and Lorraine (Joe) Sturdivant of Thomasville, N.C.; three brothers, William H. (Mildred) Royal and John (Sylvia) Royal both of Greensboro, and Thomas (Deborah) Royal of Ansonville, N.C.; and many other relatives and special friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at 12:00 noon from the Zion Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Joseph Jones officiating. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be on Tuesday, october 19, 1999 from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Russell Funeral Home. (RUSSELL)

SHOAF
Davie County pays respect to the memory of Virginia E. Shoaf, 85, who passed away at her home in Cooleemee, N.C., on October 14, 1999.
Mrs. Shoaf was born March 28, 1914 in Davie County, to the late John and Mary Taylor Howerton.
Mrs. Shoaf was a homemaker, Honorary Member of Cooleemee Senior Citizens, member of Senior Rhythm Band, a volunteer at Davie Senior Center, in the nutritional department, and a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Cooleemee.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Shoaf Jaeger and husband, Phil of Texas; one son, DeFoy Shoaf and wife, Lada of Mocksville; one sister, Lila Hancock of Cooleemee; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces; nephews; and cousins.
Mrs. Shoaf was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Shoaf.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Head and Grace Potts; one brother, Holloway Howerton; and one granddaughter, Andrea Shoaf.
Memorial services will be held Friday, October 22, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Sheperd Episcopal Church in Cooleemee with the Reverend Edwin Baily officiating.
Burial will follow in Legion Memorial Park Cemetery in Cooleemee, N.C.
Davie Funeral Service, LLC, 416 Valley Road, Mocksville, N.C., will be serving the Shoaf family.
