NORTH WILKESBORO -- Ms. Mary Janis "Jan" Watts, 52, of Justice Drive, North Wilkesboro, died, Thursday, October 14, 1999 at her home. Ms. Watts was born February 15, 1947 in Wilkes County to Wake Johnson Watts and Mary Caudill Watts. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dwayne (Dedee) Reece of Booneville and Cegey Lee Anderson of North Wilkesboro; her mother of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Kim Caudill Watts of Statesville; and one granddaughter, Karra Nicole Reece of Booneville. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 o'clock Sunday, October 17, 1999 at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rick Tomlinson and the Rev. Grant Caudill officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service, 180 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight. WILSON
Mr. James Robert Wilson, Sr., 75, of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, October 14, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Wilson was born April 28, 1924 in Watauga Co. to Charles C. and Zada Isaacs Wilson. He was a U.S. Marine Corp World War II Veteran, serving in the Canal Zone, Okinawa and participated in the occupation of China. Mr. Wilson was retired from RJR Tobacco Co. and was a member of Open Door Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and two brothers, Roy Wilson, Jr. and Arlie Dean Wilson. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Royall Wilson of the home; four children, Mary Wilson Rojas and husband, Eddie, Becky Wilson Hartless, James Robert Wilson, Jr. and wife, Bonnie, and Randy Keith Wilson all of Winston-Salem; and four grandchildren, Kendall Craig Hartless, Carly Ann Wilson, Lee Sizemore, and Shannon Willard. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Sunday, October 17, 1999 at the Open Door Baptist Church by Rev. Richard Wallace. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens. ADVANCE -- Mr. Ray Calespie Beck, 62, of Advance, died Friday, October 15, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1931 in Guilford County to the late P.L. and Mamie Smith Beck. Mr. Beck was a retired Farrier. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Stevens Beck, of the home; a daughter, Linda Beck Charles, and husband, Robert, of Davidson County; a son, Roy Calespie Beck, and wife, Melissa, of Jamestown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Flata Johnson, of Archdale; and two brothers, Arvil Beck, of Archdale and Ervin Beck, of Advance. ROCKY MOUNT -- Mr. Anthony Scott Greene, 36, died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at Nash General Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Scott was the son of Jimmie Leroy Greene and Jeanette Brantley Johnston. Scott was a graduate of the class of 1981 at Northern Nash, and a graduate of Elon College in 1985, Kappa Alpha. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Wendy Joyner Greene, of the home; one daughter, Jenna Elizabeth Green, of the home; and three brothers, Randy Greene, of Chesterfield, Va., Jeffrey Greene, of Rocky Mount, N.C. and Marcus Greene, of Greenville, N.C. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 18 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home, with Rev. Horace Ward and Rev. David Garrison officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park. WALKERTOWN -- Mr. Donald Leo Hodge, Jr., 29, of 4926 Reidsville Rd., Walkertown, N.C., died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at N.C. Baptist Hospital following an automobile accident. Born on November 17, 1969, he was the son of Lynn P. Hodge, of Walkertown and Donald L. Hodge, Sr., of Winston-Salem. He was a carpet installer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodge is survived by two; sisters, Mrs. Pam Grigg, and husband, Blake, of Denver, N.C. and Mrs. Tina Slate, and husband, Ronnie, of Walkertown; one brother, Michael Hodge, of the home; his grandmother, Mrs. Eva Pegram, of Pfafftown; his uncles and aunts; three nieces; one nephew; cousins; and many friends. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 18 in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Pierce Funeral Home in Kernersville.
JONES
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. -- Rev. Sheldon Jones, 81, of 1424 Pinopolis Rd., Moncks Corner, S.C., an evangelist, died Friday, October 15, 1999 in a North Charleston hospital. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19 at First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner. Burial, directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner, will be in St. John's Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jones was born January 11, 1918 in Liberty, S.C., a son of Marlin Washington Jones and Ola Nelson Jones. He was the widower of Prue Martin Jones, and a member of First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner. He was the director of Cherokee Publications and the author of numerous books. He was currently broadcasting on nine radio stations worldwide. He was also the interim pastor at Bonneau Beach Baptist Church. He was the former pastor of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Cross, First Baptist Church in St. Stephen, First Baptist Church in Bonneau, and Bethel Baptist Church in Bethera. He was a former member of the Anti-Saloon League of America. Rev. Jones was the director of the Temperance and Evangelistic Crusade of America and the director of the Triumphant Truth. He was a graduate of Liberty High School and Columbia Bible College, and attended seminary in Louisville, Ky. Surviving are four daughters, Ola J. Thornton, of Columbia, Jacynthia J. Lamb, of Brandon, Fla., and Damaris J. Dunlap and Jennifer J. Merritt, both of Moncks Corner; one son, Sheldon Jones, Jr., of Moncks Corner; twelve grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

HAMPTONVILLE -- Mr. Lindsey H. Long, 87, of Petty Road, died Friday, October 15, 1999 at Hoots Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born March 4, 1912 in Yadkin County, to the late Calvin and Ethel Cheek Long, and was a retired mill worker. Mr. Long was preceded in death by two brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Nora Royal Long, of the home; four daughters, Gladys (Ray) Bennett and Sarah (Wimp) Roberts, both of King, Sue Harrison, of Boonville, and Sandra Long, of Hamptonville; three sons, Robert Long, Donald Long, and Lee (Mary) Long, all of Hamptonville; one sister, Lizzie Long, of Hamptonville; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 18 at Gentry Family Chapel, officiated by Rev. Gorrell Inscore. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Longtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Hwy 601 North of Yadkinville.

LELAND, N.C. -- Mrs. Mary Louise Snyder Masters, 65, of 108 Sandy Creek Rd., Leland, N.C., died Thursday, October 14, 1999 at Brunswick Community Hospital. She was born October 15, 1933 to William Albert Snyder and Katherine Miller Snyder. She was a homemaker and a member of Straight Way Baptist Church, High Point. Surviving are her husband, Thomas Mack Masters, Sr., of the home; three daughters, Katherine Taylor of Clemmons, Tammy Barchiesi of Woonsocket, R.I., and Zera Hensley, Leland, N.C.; six sons, Thomas Mack Masters, Jr. of Kernersville, Daniel Masters of Leland, William Masters of Welcome, Jack Masters of Winston-Salem, Carl Masters of Leland, and Mackie Masters of Leland; one sister, Brenda Purkey of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Willard Snyder of Leland; twenty-five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 18, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel, Kernersville conducted by L.C. Taylor, Minister, Immanuel Baptist Church, Clemmons, N.C. HAYS -- Mrs. Mary Lee Felts Pruitt, 73, of Hays, N.C., died Friday, October 15, 1999 at Britthaven Nursing Home. She was born March 9, 1926 to Harrison and Polly Brown Felts. Mrs. Pruitt was retired from Wilkes County School System after 28 years as a secretary, and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Bill L. Pruitt, of the home; four daughters, Pam Miles and Terrye Walsh, both of North Wilkesboro, Pollye Pruitt, of Emerald Isle, N.C., and Pat Handy, of Boomer; four sisters, Mae Johnson, Archie Cothern, Pauline Brown, and Jo Hendrix, all of Hays; and two grandchildren, Nathan Handy and Jordan Walsh. The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro on Sunday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A private memorial service and burial will be held prior to the visitation. Mrs. Lula Evans Robinson, 83, of Sunrise Towers, Winston-Salem, died Thursday, October 14, 1999 following an extended illness. She was born February 25, 1916 to James and Rosa Evans. She attended Winston-Salem city schools, was an employee of R.J. Reynolds for 23 years, and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ford, and her husband, Donnie, of Winston-Salem and Brenda Barris, and her husband, Royce, of Charlotte; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 18 at New Bethel Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Drayton, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00-1:30 p.m., prior to the service.
