KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. Thomas Harold (Tommy) Teague, 82, of 496 Morro Drive, Kernersville, formerly of Greensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999 at the Human Service Alliance in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will he conducted on Tuesday, Oct . 12, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service Chapel. Reverend Gerald Primm will officiate. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mr. Teague was born on April 21, 1917 in Guilford County, to Thomas Hector and Glennie Helen Dupree Teague. He was long-time employee of Cone Mills Revolution Plant and was a self-employed painter. Mr. Teague was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bertie Louise West Teague in 1984; his second wife, Madge Parker Teague in 1996; and his brothers, James Teague and Luther Teague. Survivors are his daughter, Patricia Teague Swisher of Kernersville; one sister, Ruth T. Willard of Greensboro; brothers, William (Bill) Teague of Greensboro, and Roy C. Teague of Morrow, Ga.; grandchildren, Kimberly S. Idol, Kelly Michelle Swisher, and Curtis Lee Swisher, all of Kernersville; and many nieces and nephews. The family willl receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 1999 at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service. ARMSTRONG
BOONVILLE -- Mr. John Francis Armstrong, 72, of Rock House Mountain Road, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Armstrong was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Baltimore, Md., to the late William Lee and Helen Farmer Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong was a retired supervisor from Perdue Feed Mill and attended Swaims Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a past member of the Jockey Club. Mr. Armstrong loved to raise and train thoroughbred horses. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Harris; a grandson, Mark Harris; and a sister, Margaret Keller. Survivors include his wife, Clara Louise Hemric Armstrong of the home; a daughter, Linda Burchette of State Road; two brothers, William Armstrong and Robert Armstrong; a sister, Helen Armstrong Taylor all of Cocoa, Fla.; four grandchildren and spouses, Billy Lee and Melissa Harris, Judy and Lynn Honeycutt, Jackie and William Spivey and Clara and Jimmy Priester; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mable (Charles) Frietag and Ruth Hemric; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Isaac Hicks, the Rev. John Attaway and the Rev. Stewart Roten. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the funeral home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Surry/Yadkin Counties.
BLASSINGAME
Mrs. Hester Thompson Blassingame of 3015 N. Patterson Ave., passed away Monday evening, Oct. 9, 2000, at The Oaks at Forsyth following a period of illness. She was a native of Lancaster, S.C., having lived in Winston-Salem, for the past 32 years. She was a member of Hanes Memorial CME Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the stewardess board, Missionary Society and the Board of Christian Education. She was a retired school teacher with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system, having taught at Lewisville Elementary and Lowrance Elementary schools. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by six sisters, Louise T. McCullough and Helen T. Blackmon, both of Winston-Salem, Mary A. (Haywood) Stewart, Pauline (Kelly) Benson, Reba (the Rev. Bennie) Stinson and Catherine (Otis) Coffey; a brother, Edgo (Sarah) Thompson, all of Lancaster, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews, other close relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Hanes Memorial CME Church, with Dr. Michael K. Williams officiating and the eulogy being delivered by Bishop Charles L. Helton, Presiding Prelate of the 7th Episcopal District of the CME Church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. RONDA -- Ms. Betty Jean Lawson Bowers, 56, of Clingman Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in the Clingman community, with the Rev. Elmer Barker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ms. Bowers was born Sept. 30, 1944, in Forsyth County, to Ernest and Mattie Collins Lawson. She was retired from AT&T and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Amy Shumate of Hays; a son, Chris Bowers of Elkin; a sister, Frances Weavil of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Gene Lawson of Walkertown, and Joe Lawson of High Point; and two grandchildren. The family will be at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Saturday night from 6:30 to 8:30. The men of Ms. Bowers Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers. PINNACLE -- Mrs. Helen Louise Aldridge Edwards, 74, of 1669 Bradley Road, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Wake Forest Baptist University Medical Center. Mrs. Edwards was born in Forsyth County, April 26, 1926, to Joseph Ernest Aldridge and Vallie Rierson Aldridge. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Boyden Edwards and wife Carolyn, Larry Edwards, and David Edwards and wife Debbie, all of Pinnacle; a daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Chris Lynch of King; five grandchildren, Stephen, Cary, Jamie and Aaron Edwards, and Amanda Lynch; two sisters, Christine (Margaret) Farris of Havana, Fla., and Brenda Marion of Pinnacle; and a brother, Reggie Aldridge of Tangiers Island, Va. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Abel Quentin Edwards. The Rev. Jerry Tedder will conduct funeral services for Mrs. Edward's 2 p.m. Oct. 15, 2000, at Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum. FLYNT
Carolyn Scott Flynt, widow of Charles Watson Flynt, died Oct. 12 at her home, 6330 Baux Mountain Road, Winston-Salem. A lifelong resident of Forsyth County, Mrs. Flynt was born May 30, 1917, in Pfafftown to Thomas Steve and Mamie Wilson Scott. Mrs. Flynt was the devoted mother of three daughters, who survive: Sandra Canipe and husband Chris of Greensboro, Connie Mullinix and husband Steve of Chapel Hill and Penny King and husband Bob of New Bern. Four grandchildren also survive: Lee Canipe and wife Hilary of Hickory, Molly Canipe Lyle and husband Scott of Greensboro, Carey King of New Orleans and Claire King of New Bern. Mrs. Flynt was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16 at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. PEOPLES
Mrs. Kathleen "Kitty" Peoples, 81, of Arbor Acres died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000. Mrs. Peoples was born June 15, 1919, in Princeton, W.Va., the daughter of Kyle and Nellie C. Caldwell Cook. Mrs. Peoples spent her early life in West Virginia and was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va. Prior to the marriage, she was a trainmaster's clerk for the Virginian Railway. Mrs. Peoples was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was a loving wife to David Stuart Peoples for 52 years. Surviving are a daughter, Signe Kyle Peoples; a son, David Stuart Peoples II of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren, David Stuart Peoples III and Kimberly Ann Peoples. Mrs. Peoples was preceded in death by her husband, David Stuart Peoples and a brother, Damon Trevor Cook. A private graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 14. SANTIAGO
Donna Lynn Batchelor Santiago died Sept. 8, 2000, as a result of a trailer fire. She was born Nov. 2, 1963, to Pamela and Rick Batchelor of Winston-Salem. Surviving are her former husband, Johnny Santiago; two children, Nickolas and Erika Santiago; grandparents Eva and C.C. Henderson; an uncle, Bill Bedsaul of Largo, Fla.; and two sisters, Bonnie (Chuck) Zopfi of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Rena Bryan and her son, Stephen of Winston-Salem. The family received friends at the service held Sunday, Sept. 17 at Parklawn Mausoleum Chapel. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Parklawn Cemetery. She will be buried with her mother, Pamela Kilgore.
SCOTT
MOCKSVILLE -- Mr. Arthur L. Scott, 73, of 370 Cedar Creek Road died Oct. 12 at Forsyth Medical Center following six years of declining health and serious illness of several days. He was born in Forsyth County, and had spent the majority of his life in Davie County. He had been employed by Cooleemee Cotton Mills and Gravely Tractor Co. and was a part-time farmer. He was a member of Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he served actively as a trustee, deacon, treasurer and other departments of the church until his health failed. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and received an honorable discharge. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Cain Scott of the home; four sons, George Scott, Sr. and wife Virginia of Mocksville, Henry L. Scott and wife Katrina of Paterson, N.J., Arthur Eugene Scott Sr. and wife Ida of Atlanta and Clifton Eric Scott Sr. and wife Ramona of Raleigh; two daughters, Sarah L. Scott of the home and Shirley Evella Crowner and husband Garry of Baltimore, Md.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Linville officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. SIMMONS
Mr. Larry Thomas Simmons, 40, of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center, Mr. Simmons was born in Akron, Ohio, on Nov. 30, 1959, to Ernest and Nancy Sax Simmons. He lived most of his life in Green, Ohio, and moved to Winston-Salem in 1985. Mr. Simmons was employed by Carolina Wood Floors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his wife, Leigh Anne Coe Simmons of the home; two sisters, Lori Ann Toothman and husband Kenneth of Morgantown, W.Va., and Lisa Marie Blankhorst and husband Robin of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; his mother and father of Howard, Ohio; and four nieces and two nephews. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Dr. Larry Summey officiating.
