Rev. Michael Randall Tolbert
Rev. Michael Randall Tolbert, 56, of Winston-Sa1em, died June 9 [2002].
He was born April 2, 1946, in Gaston County, to Jack and Lois Smith Tolbert.
The Rev. Tolbert served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.
He received a Master's degree at the Duke Divinity School, and his home church was Maylo United Methodist Church in Ranlo.
He served as pastor at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Fairview United Methodist Church, Westford United Methodist Church, North Morganton United Methodist Church and Huntersville United Methodist Church. He was currently the pastor of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Welch Tolbert of the home; his mother of Gastonia; a daughter, Emily Dawn Tolbert of Winston-Salem; a son, Brian Michael Tolbert of Charlotte; and a brother, Arthur Van Tolbert of Gastonia.
A graveside service was held at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia. A memorial service was held at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Hurley Thomas officiating.
Lacie Wallace Caudle Pegram
Lacie Wallace Caudle Pegram, 94, of Lewisville-Clemmons, died June 8 [2002]. She was born April 24, 1908, near Harmony, in Iredell County, being the only survivor of thirteen children born of Thomas G. Wallace and Rosie Lee Arnold Wallace. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church and was a homemaker, a farmer's wife and widely acclaimed for her talents in gardening, canning, sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was also an active member of the Home Demonstration Club and the Lewisville Joy Club. She was preceded in death by husbands Thomas E. "George" Caudle, David Sheets and Thomas Pegram.
Surviving are a daughter, Sarah C. Pegram and husband Hester of Clemmons; a son, Lloyd C. Caudle and wife Dorothy S. of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Ann and Michael Murtland, Judy and Danny Jarvis, Ted and Penny Pegram, Fred Pegram, Grainger and Grace Caudle, Cameron and Cindy Caudle and Gordon and Jenny Caudle; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special thanks to her caregiver, Ruby Bingham.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Freddie Moretz officiating, and burial followed at Lewisville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Jalen Lamant Yates
Jalen Lamant Yates, 6, of Clemmons, died June 3 [2002] in a swimming accident.
He was born May 22, 1996 and attended Lewisville Elementary School.
He was preceded in the death by his sister, Briona Yates.
Surviving are his mother, Brandi, and his stepfather, Alvin Johnson, Jr. of Clemmons; his brother, Jeremiah Johnson, and his step-sister, Mykala Lyles; his maternal grandparents, Brenda Blakney and husband Lee and Anthony Thacker, both of Winston-Salem; his paternal step-grandparents, Ronald and Pauline Sadler and Alvin Johnson, Sr., all of Winston-Salem; his three great-grandparents, Esther Butler, Earlene Yates and Henry Grier, all of Winston-Salem; his two uncles, Antonio Yates and wife Artanzia and Antwune Johnson; an aunt, LaShauta Johnson, all of Winston-Salem; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services were held at St. Matthew Apostolic Church with Elder Michael Butler officiating, and burial followed at Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
Mildred Rebecca Morton Moore
Mildred Rebecca Morton Moore, 77, of Winston-Salem, died June 7 [2002] at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born October 10, 1924, in Wake County, to Julian C. Morton, Sr. and Willie Mae Evans Morton, but lived most of her life in Forsyth County. She was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 37 years. She was a lifelong, faithful member of Hopewell Moravian Church, where she sang in the choir as long as she was able. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elsie Helderman; and a brother, Julian C. Morton, Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Donnie R. Moore of the home; two daughters, Becky Cook and husband Alex of Clemmons, and Sheila Canzona and husband Greg of Winston-Salem; two stepdaughters, Shari Bowman and husband David of Davidson County, and Barbara Moore of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Lambeth and Doris Lambeth of Winston-Salem; and many other relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.
Funeral services were held at Hopewell Moravian Church with Rev. Jeff Carter officiating, and burial followed in the church graveyard.
Thomas Jerome Lockard, Jr.
Thomas Jerome Lockard, Jr., 57, of Clemmons, died June 3 [2002] at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born September 22, 1944, in Altoona, Pa., to Thomas Jerome Lockard, Sr. and Esther Nale Lockard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam, from 1968 to 1969. He was retired from Integon Corp. after 30 years of service. He was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church and previously involved in the building of King of Glory Lutheran Church, where he served as vice president of the church council and chairman of the property committee and the call committee. He and his wife started a youth group at King of Glory. He also taught night classes at Forsyth Technical Community College in Introduction to Programming.
Surviving are his wife, Pam Rogers Lockard of the home; a son, Shawn Lockard and wife Tracy of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Jordan Thomas Lockard, Hailey Madison Lockard and Carson Reid Lockard; two sisters, Linda Lockard McCarter of High Point, and Bonnie Lockard Newman and husband David of Concord; a special niece, Rebecca Joy Newman of Apex; two nephews, Luther McCarter of Wilmington, and Loren McCarter and wife Aisle of Berkeley, Ca.; two uncles, Ray Nale and wife Vi of Moscow, Pa., and Dean Nale of Pittsburgh, Pa.; an aunt, Betty Crotts of Winston-Salem; and a special friend of the family, Arlene Hassinger.
Funeral services were held at Augsburg Lutheran Church with Dr. Ronald A. Rinn, Rev. Shirley Harrison and Rev. Edwin Troutman officiating. Entombment followed at Forsyth Memorial Park with military rites by District 11 Memorial Honor Guard.
Edna Brewer Alley
Edna Brewer Alley, 84, of Clemmons, died June 3 [2002] in Dothan, Ala., while visiting family there. She was born in Winston-Salem, October 29, 1917, to Henry Edward Brewer and Lela Mae Jackson Brewer. She had a long career with Western Electric, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain, where she had been a Sunday school teacher. She had been a leader in the Pilot Mountain Civic Center and she and her husband had volunteered with the local Meals on Wheels and other senior citizen programs. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Foster and Clementine Sprinkle; and a brother, Henry E. "Bud" Brewer, Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, A.W. Alley of the home; two sons, William Edward Alley and wife Carol of Daleville, Ala., and Larry Gray Alley and wife Synthia of Pilot Mountain, and Sneeds Ferry; four grandchildren, Alanna Kotas and husband Robert, Tanya Alley, Chase Alley and Christina Alley; and two great-grandchildren, Cassie Kotas and Nathan Kotas.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Rev. Bob Thomas officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Allen Eugene Joyner
Allen Eugene Joyner, 24, of Pfafftown, died June 8 [2002]. He was born December 27, 1977, in Forsyth County, to Arnold Eugene and Susan McClure Joyner. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he attended the Special Ministries. He volunteered at the Clemmons Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Eunice Joyner.
Surviving are his parents; a sister, Deana Joyner, of the home; grandparents Richard and Shirley McClure of Lewisville; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Eric Davis officiating, and burial followed at Westlawn Memorial Gardens in Clemmons.
Everette E. Imes
Everette E. Imes of Clemmons, died May 30 [2002] at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Forsyth County, where he attended the Forsyth County schools. He attended Hickory Grove AME Zion Church in Clemmons. He was employed at Clemmons Milling Co. in Clemmons.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Tinsley Imes of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Imes and husband James of Winston-Salem, and Tammie Simmons and husband Robert of Clemmons; three sons, James Imes and wife Denise of Winston-Salem, Elbert B. Imes and wife Rebecca Chawn of Clemmons, and Charles Walker of Philadelphia, Pa.; six grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Conrad of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Elbert E. Imes and wife Shirley of Clemmons, and Charlie Imes of Winston-Salem; two sisters-in-law, Doris Smith of Winston-Salem, and Edna Imes of Fosteria, Ohio, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Hickory Grove AME Zion Church with Rev. Robert Bailey officiating, and burial followed in Hickory Grove AME Zion Church Cemetery.
Tommy Roger Anthony
Tommy Roger Anthony, 59, of Fancy Gap, Va., the husband of Mary Catherine Jackson Anthony, died May 27 [2002] at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born in Wilkes County, February 16, 1943, the son of Minnie Adams Anthony and the late Hoyle Elwood Anthony. He was self-employed, a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and attended Fancy Gap United Methodist Church. While in Clemmons, he was the vice-president of Northwestern Bank, owned and operated Village Builders Construction Co. and Anthony Insurance Agency and was a charter member of the Clemmons Masonic Lodge No. 755 AF&AM.;
Surviving are his wife, Mary Catherine Jackson Anthony of the home; two daughters, Robin Fincher and husband Dr. Clark Fincher of Galax, Va., and Renee Westmoreland and husband Kevin of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Reece Benton Westmoreland and Colt Christopher Westmoreland, both of Mount Airy; his mother, Minnie Adams Anthony of North Wilkesboro; two brothers, Jerry and Anthony and wife Kate of Winston-Salem, and Bill Anthony and wife Nadine of North Wilkesboro; and his mother-in-law, Kathryn Brickell Jackson of Mount Airy.
Funeral services were held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Airy, with Rev. Layne Pennington officiating. Burial followed at Oakdale Cemetery, with full Masonic rites conducted by Clemmons Masonic Lodge No. 755 AF&AM.;
Faye Lail Bettini Pascal
Faye Lail Bettini Pascal, 73, of Pfafftown, died at her home May 28 [2002] after a period of declining health. A native of Catawba County, she was born March 27, 1929, to the late James Otis and Margaret Reitzel Lail. She was of the Presbyterian faith and was active in the Girl Scouts for more than 15 years. She was the first vice-president for the Pilot Area Girl Scout Council in the late 1960s. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Ralph L. Bettini, in 1990 and her husband, William Henry Pascal, in 1994.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda P. Wagner and husband Donnie of Rural Hall, and Jeanne P. Larson and husband Lynn of Winston-Salem; her son, Michael Douglas Pascal of Santa Fe, N.M.; six grandchildren, Matthew Graffis and wife Michelle, Christina Graffis, Jill Pascal, Lindsay Pascal, Tracey Larson Huie and husband Chad and Beth Larson; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Brianna Graffis.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Rural Hall Chapel with Skip Larson officiating.
