Norman Ray Craver
Norman Ray Craver, 60, of Clemmons, and Advance, died unexpectedly December 10 [2001] at the new log home in Davie County, where he had spent countless hours, and where he had planned to enjoy the view of the river.
He was born in Forsyth County, on November 22, 1941, to Ray J. and Eleanor Rochester Craver.
He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., with 34 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father and his son, Martin Craver.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Yates Craver of the home; a son, Steven C. Craver and a daughter, Jill E. Craver, both of Clemmons; grandchildren Brian and Shannon Craver of Clemmons; his mother of Covington, Ky., and a sister, Carolyn C. Wright and husband Creighton of Covington, Ky.
A graveside service was held at Center United Methodist Church in Welcome, with Rev. Clay Morgan, Rev. Jim White and Rev. Tony Brown officiating.
June Hudgins Herke
June Hudgins Herke, 80, of Pfafftown, died November 29 [2001] at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a brief illness.
She was born June 1, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Alexander and Harriette May Cash Hudgins.
She lived the majority of her life in Forsyth County.
A lifelong Methodist, she was a former member of Marvin United Methodist Church.
For several years, she showed and sold homes for Grandview Construction Co.
Her love of people later led her to share her artistic talents.
Her specialties included interior design, decorative painting and decoupage.
She taught classes at and eventually assumed ownership of the Green Cottage in Pfafftown.
She later opened June Herke's Craft House, also in Pfafftown.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Natasha Elizabeth Rothrock Herke.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Peter Herke of Pfafftown; two sons, John Herke and wife Margaret of Denton, and Robert Herke of Pfafftown; a daughter, Holly Herke of Pfafftown; an aunt, Janice Cash, widow of uncle Henry Lee Cash, of Rural Hall; a cousin, Phyllis Gross and family of Alexandria, Va.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Galaboff and family of Cleveland, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, Charles Herke and family of Cleveland, Ohio.
Billey Sunday Tilley
Billey Sunday Tilley, 78, of Clemmons, died December 6 [2001] at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born January 5, 1923, in Surry County, to Lloyd and Ettie Rogers Tilley.
He was a dedicated member of Westfield Baptist Church for 28 years and Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, for 23 years.
He was owner and operator of Tilley Hardware and Supermarket in Westfield.
He also was the owner of B & P Motors in Clemmons.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Fulton and Doris Slate; and two brothers, Cabol Tilley and Dick Tilley.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline S. Tilley of the home; a son, Dr. Mark Tilley and wife Rochelle of Asheville; a daughter, Kathy Hammons and husband Steve of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Joshua Tilley, Lindsey Tilley, Lauren Saliga and Mikey Saliga; and five brothers, John Tilley of Stuart, Va., Kenneth Tilley of Pensacola, Fla., Jack Tilley of Mars Hill, and Swanson Tilley and Frank Tilley, both of Westfield.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating.
A graveside service was held at Westfield Baptist Church in Westfield.
Margie Walker Buckner
Margie Walker Buckner, 77, of Winston-Salem, died November 26, 2001, at Springwood Care Center of Forsyth.
She was born March 20, 1924, in Forsyth County, to Simon P. and Bertha Nezat Walker.
She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Buckner, and three sisters, Ethel, Helen and Evelyn.
Surviving are her daughter, Teresa Buckner Hire of Clemmons; four sisters, Dorothy W. Spainhour of Columbia, S.C., Elsie W. Robertson of Advance, and Agnes Rector and Norma Lee Orrell of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Melvin Leroy Walker of Winston-Salem, and Wilson Wesley Walker of Pfafftown; several nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Randy McKinney officiating, and burial followed in Crestview Memorial Park.
Sherry Lynn Scott Tuttle
Sherry Lynn Scott Tuttle, 45, of Pfafftown, died November 12 [2001] at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Center after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born in Forsyth County, March 31, 1956, to Ray and Hilda Scott Ring.
She was a homemaker and a member of Beck's Baptist Church, where she initiated the Baptist Young Women's Group.
She was a member of the Beacon Sunday School Class and WMU Circle #3.
She was an active volunteer for Vienna and Old Richmond School.
She was preceded in death by her son, Russell "Rusty" Christopher Tuttle on May 18, 1995; her paternal grandparents, Floyd "Eck" and Maude Flynn Scott; and her maternal grandmother, Myrtle "Granny" Long Ring.
Surviving are her parents; her husband of 28 years, Russell Kent Tuttle; two daughters, Trisha Lynn Tuttle of Lynchburg, Va., and Gretchen Marie Tuttle of the home; a son, Nathan Ray Tuttle of UNC-Charlotte; a sister, Brenda Scott Plunkett and husband Rick of Rural Hall; a nephew, Scott Plunkett of UNC-Charlotte: a brother, Dr. Gary Scott and wife Susan; two nieces, Jessica and Ashlyn Scott of Montgomery, Ala.; and her maternal grandfather, Claude "Pappy" Ring of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Becks Baptist Church, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Laura Angel Fearrington
Laura Angel Fearrington, 88, of Pfafftown, died November 15 [2001] at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born in Yadkin County, January 31, 1913, to William and Emma Tate Angel.
She was a member of Enon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Fearrington, Sr.
Surviving are two sons, George W. Fearrington, Jr. of Pfafftown, and Garland R. Fearrington and wife Ann of Advance; four grandchildren, Yolanda Pierce, Kimberly Hart, Mindy Hicks and Alec Fearrington; two great-grandchildren, Odyssey Pierce and Cam Fearrington; a sister-in-law, Hazel F. Tesh; a brother-in-law, A. Ray Fearrington; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel, with Rev. Mark Elmore and Rev. David Benton officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Charles Richard Coley
Charles Richard Coley, 58, of Pfafftown, died November 19 [2001] at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born November 15, 1943, to Raleigh, and Grace Coley.
He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Co., after 33 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Gloria Senter Coley; two brothers, Freddy and Wayne "Bud" Coley; and two sisters, Dorothy Teague and Faye Styers.
Surviving are his daughter, Sherry "Pepper" Coley and her partner, Rosemary Barber Coley of Winston-Salem; three sisters-in-law, Janet Coley, Louise Terezza Coley and Gladys Sealey; four brothers-in-law, Mickey Styers, Tommy Tuttle, Ray Lawson and Jim Sealey; and two sisters, Virginia Tuttle of King, and Barbera Lawson of Pinnacle.
William Mason Roberson, Jr.
Captain William Mason "Butch" Roberson, Jr., 50, of Clemmons, died unexpectedly March 4 [2002] at his home.
He was born in Selma, Ala., December 1, 1951, to William Mason Roberson, Sr. and Ruby Sullivan.
A graduate of High Point University, he was a retired military intelligence officer with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, AMVETS and the Retired Officers Association.
His father and his stepmother, Nancy Parrish Roberson, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Katrina Roberson of the home; a daughter, Karrie Pinker and husband Jeffrey of Pleasant Grove, Utah; two grandsons, Joseph and Benjamin; a sister, Donna Kay Villareal; two half-brothers, William Allen Roberson of Miami, Fla., and Robert Joe Sullivan of Fayette, Ala.; a stepbrother, Roy M. Hughs of Highland Springs, Va.; a half-sister, Pauline Rousse of Houston, Texas; and two stepsisters, Sharon H. Clopton of Goose Creek, S.C., and Carolyn H. Rhoades of Highland Springs, Va.
A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park, with the Rev. Danny Johnson officiating.
Bobby Howard Spangler, Sr.
Bobby Howard Spangler, Sr., 70, of Clemmons, died unexpectedly at his home March 5 [2002].
He was born July 29, 1931, to David Butler and Virginia Johnson Martin in Forsyth County.
He was retired from Roadway Express in Kernersville.
He and his wife traveled many miles together in their retirement with the Holiday Ramblers and friends.
He was the past state manager of the Holiday Ramblers and past president for Chapter 207.
He attended Friedberg Moravian Church. His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Sylvia Fishel Spangler of the home; two sons, David Spangler and wife Jackie of Arcadia, and Howard Spangler and wife Karen of Arcadia; a daughter, Kathryn Riddle and husband Danny of Midway; a sister, Edith Martin Myers and husband Jimmy of Lexington; four grandchildren, James Sheppard, Butler Spangler, Kristan Spangler and Charlie Riddle; two great-granddaughters and a great-grandson, "Nick"; a special niece, Julie Myers Bowers; a host of loving nieces and a nephew; along with a special uncle, Haran Martin of Winston-Salem; and a host of friends of the Holiday Ramblers.
Funeral services were held at Friedberg Moravian Church, with Rev. G. Thomas Shelton officiating.
Stafford Randolph Peebles, Sr.
Stafford Randolph Peebles, Sr., 83, of Winston-Salem, died March 6 [2002] at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons.
He was born December 12, 1918, to Troy M. and Lily Council Peebles in Raleigh.
He returned to Winston-Salem, a year ago, after 30 years in Miami, and Brooksville, Fla.
He was a veteran naval officer of World War II and the Korean conflict, and was employed by NCR for 40 years.
He was a member of First Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Neal Peebles of the home; a son, Stafford Randolph Peebles, and wife Judy of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Patrick Peebles and wife Lorraine, and Todd Peebles and wife Angela; five great-grandchildren, Rachel, Charlie, Ryan, Noah and Jonah; two step-grandchildren, Diane Lewis and husband Andrew, and Michael Bradford and wife Shelley; a step-great-grandchild, Natalie Bradford; a sister, Joyce Ferguson of Chase City, Va.; a brother, Maurice Peebles and wife Frances of Oxford; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gordon Peebles, Sr. of Fayetteville.
A memorial service was held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel, with Dr. Willie Davis officiating, and burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.
