Claude Vinston Taylor
Claude Vinston Taylor, 89, of Lewisville, formerly of Wilkes County, died December 17 [2001] at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 5, 1912, in Wilkes County, to Francis Patrick and Winnie Alevia Handy Taylor.
He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Huntsville.
Surviving are a son, Claude J. Taylor of Jupiter, Fla.; three daughters, Vida Weatherman of Lewisville, Gladys Westmoreland of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ann Earnest of Madison, Fla.; a sister, Etta Miller of McGrady; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Miller Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Dean Crane and Rev. Zackery King officiating, and burial followed in Mountlawn Memorial Park.
Kelly A. Foster
Kelly A. "Andy" Foster, 43, of Clemmons, died December 17 [2001] at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born September 18, 1958, in Forsyth County, to Robert A. and Sarah Davis Foster.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his mother; four aunts, Emma Tesh, Suzanne Davis, Linda White and Margaret Gobbles; an uncle, Sam Davis; and many special friends.
A graveside service was held at Clemmons Moravian Church Graveyard with Rev. Ray Burke officiating.
Gary Dean Boyles
Gary Dean Boyles, 47, of Lewisville, died December 13 [2001] at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born March 28, 1954, in Forsyth County, to Alger and Joyce Tilghman Boyles.
He was of the Baptist faith, was very active in the Southwest Forsyth Little League, and was a crew-member of Pfaff & Hill Racing Team at Bowman Gray.
His father, Alger Boyles, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Sherry C. Boyles of the home; two sons, David and Adam Boyles of the home; mother Joyce T. Boyles of Lewisville; a brother, Bruce Boyles of Lewisville; and a niece, Amber Boyles of Lewisville.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Paul Mullen officiating, and burial followed at Westlawn Memorial Gardens.
Kennedy Pinkney Doyle, II
Kennedy “Ken” Pinkney Doyle, II, 77, of Granite Quarry, died December 20 [2001] at his home.
He was born August 17, 1924 in Timmonsville, S.C., to Ailene Shipman and Kennedy Pinkney Doyle.
He was the retired manager of Kenny Shoe Store and also retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Company as top salesman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and was affiliated with the CIA.
He was past commander of American Legion Post 448 and had held all offices in the Post.
He was a member of Christiana Lutheran Church, where he served as treasurer of the men’s Sunday school class for many years.
He had been treasurer of the Educational Building Fund, was past chairman of the church council and held various other council positions.
In the past, he had been a Granite Quarry volunteer fireman, alderman and mayor pro-tem, founder of the Civic Park and also a member of the Historical Committee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Grace Lyerly Doyle; and a son, Kennedy “Kippy” P. Doyle, III.
Surviving are four daughters, Matilda D. Eddy of Clemmons, LaVaughn D. Beaver of Salisbury, Kate D. Beretsky of Granite Quarry, and Gwen D. Saunders of Yadkinville; two brothers, Eston Doyle of Salisbury, and Jerry Doyle of Umatilla, Fla.; and 8 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Christiana Lutheran Church with Rev. Carl Haynes officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Annie Bell Winfrey Davis
Annie Bell Winfrey Davis, 90, formerly of Winston-Salem, died December 11 [2001] at Meadowbrook Manor in Clemmons.
She was born in Stokes County, on December 2, 1911, to Crawford and Sallie Allen Knight.
Surviving are a son, Roger Winfrey and wife Donna of Winston-Salem; a daughter, June Logan and husband Charles of Kernersville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Tuttle and husband Buddy of Germanton.
Rev. George Willie Dalton
The Rev. George Willie Dalton, retired United Methodist Minister of Lewisville, and resident of Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, died March 15 [2002] at the Fitzgerald Health Center.
He was born to Willie Davis Dalton and Sarah Dare Doub Dalton, October 27, 1916, in the West Bend community of Forsyth County.
He served churches in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and did volunteer work with Mission Building teams in Puerto Rico, St. Croix and Ranger, N.C.
Upon his retirement, he taught woodworking at Forsyth Community College for three years.
He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby, and was considered an excellent craftsman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lillie Hill Dalton; and two brothers, Don F. Dalton and Worth D. Dalton.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lillian Haynes Dalton of Arbor Acres; five sisters, Virginia D. Townsend and husband Lewis of Charlotte, Ida D. McHargue of Winston-Salem, Rosie D. Burton and husband Leroy and Eleanor D. Thompson and husband William, all of Lewisville, and Carol Deaton and husband Edward of Greensboro; and three brothers, Monroe Dalton, Frank Dalton and Robert Dalton, all of Lewisville.
Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, with Rev. Douglas Sugg, Chaplain of Arbor Acres, officiating, and burial followed at Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Betty Williams Tucker
Betty Williams Tucker, 81, of Pfafftown, died March 13 [2002] at her home.
She was born in Yadkin County, on July 30, 1920, to Arthur and Flora Bovender Williams.
She was a member of Pfafftown, Baptist Church, where she had been active in the WMU and other church programs.
She had a long career with Hanes and Sara Lee, retiring in 1984 after 43 years of service.
She was also employed by the day care of Northwest Baptist Church after her retirement from Sara Lee.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were three sisters, Hazel, Pearl and Lois; and four brothers, Garl, Sherrill, Laster and Ross.
Surviving are her son, Earl Trent Tucker and wife Denise; two granddaughters, Maggie and Mary Kate Tucker, all of Winston-Salem; a sister, Blanche W. Holcomb of Yadkinville; a brother, John Williams of East Bend; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, with Dr. Craig W. Bowman officiating, and burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.
Vivian Bynum Perkins
Vivian Bynum Perkins, 95, of Clemmons, died March 9 [2002] at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born January 12, 1907, in Orange County, to Stephen William and Bertha Viola Lloyd Bynum.
She was a member of University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Paul K. Perkins; and three sons, Paul K. Perkins, Jr., Donald Bynum Perkins and Robert Calvin Perkins.
Surviving are her daughter, Martha P. Miller and husband Richard of Mocksville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Chapel Hill.
Gorrell B. Apperson
Gorrell B. Apperson, 90, of Pfafftown, died March 10 [2002] at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born September 23, 1911, in Forsyth County.
He was a member of Brookstown United Methodist Church and attended as long as his health permitted.
He worked for the State Highway Department for several years and then went to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, where he worked for 29 years, retiring Sept. 23, 1976.
On June 14, 1930, he was married to Ruth Beroth, who preceded him in death.
They were happily married for 66 years.
Surviving are a son, Tony Apperson and wife Audrey of Pfafftown; a daughter, Dorcas Craft and husband Raymond of Pfafftown; two grandsons, Randy and Troy Apperson; four granddaughters, Tanya Apperson, June Hayes, Shannon Craft and Amanda Isasi; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Brookstown United Methodist Church, with Rev. Eugene Dean and Rev. Robert Huffman officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mary Key Jones
Mary Key Jones of Clemmons, died March 14 [2002] at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
She was born September 18, 1927, in Wilkes County, to James Edward and Minte Clinard Key.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Lee Jones.
Surviving are a son, Marty Lee Jones and wife Donna of Clemmons; a brother, Clifford Key of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Casey and Shane Dudley of Clemmons; and nephews James and Roger Key.
A graveside service was held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
