Theodore Price, Sr.
Theodore “Cootie” Price, Sr., 67, of Walnut Cove, died March 6 [2003].
He was a native of Stokes County, and a retired employee of Roadway Trucking Co.
Surviving are his wife, Helen M. Price of the home; four daughters, Deborah Campbell of Clemmons, Tamra Eccles of Walkertown, Faye Price of Greensboro, and Carolyn Price of Fayetteville; two sons, Theodore Price, Jr. of Youngsville, and Jerry Price of the home; two brothers, Rev. George Price, Sr. of Walkertown, and Charlie Wayne Price of Madison; three sisters, Barbara G. Watkins and Molene Wallington, both of Madison, and Betty Watson of Greensboro; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Pine Hall Baptist Church in Pine Hall, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pamela Crater Threatt
Pamela Crater Threatt, 49, of Winston-Salem, died March 5 [2003] at her home.
She was born October 6, 1953, in Forsyth County, to Gene and Dorothy Moser Crater.
Gene Crater, her father, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Dennis, of the home; her mother, Dorothy Crater of Winston-Salem; a sister, Vicki Allison of Lewisville; a sister, Tommye Mitchell and husband John of Fleetwood; her father and mother-in-law, Sam and Minna Threatt of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Theresa Vickers and husband Mark of Winston-Salem; and with four nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services were held at Robinhood Road Baptist Church, with Rev. Levy Goodrich officiating, and burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
Odessa Clingman Perry
Odessa Clingman Perry of Winston-Salem, died March 3 [2003] at her home.
In 1935, she and the late Everett L. Perry were joined in marriage and became the parents of two children.
She was a 37-year employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.
Surviving are her daughter, Ellen Killens and husband Richard of Goldsboro; her son, Arthur Perry of Winston-Salem; a stepson, Charles Corts of Winston-Salem; a sister, Vivian Clingman Evans of Clemmons; a sister-in-law, Ona P. Taylor of Charlotte; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; goddaughters; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at Carver Road Church of Christ, with Brother Harvey Drummer, Jr. officiating.
Madeline Cathrine Macko
Madeline “Sally” Cathrine Macko, 80, of Lewisville, died May 15 [2003] at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 15, 1922, in East Pittsburgh, Pa., to Viola Horner and Pasquale Scolet, sister to Joseph and Michael Scolet.
She retired to North Carolina, from the private-nursing profession in 1993.
Her interests included being a nanny, gardening, reading and cooking.
Surviving are her son, Michael D. Macko of Lewisville; daughters Judith Macko Pavelka of Lewisville, Mary Cathrine Belavic of Pfafftown, and Jorge Ann Tooker of Wilsonville, Ore.; grandchildren Michelle Pavelka, Michael Soles, Jonette Kondratenko, Kori Lester, Michael D. Macko, Jr., Bob Tooker, Jr., Robin Hecht, Rick Hanna, Jeffrey Hanna and Kelly Leake; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Mass was celebrated at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, with Father Larry Lomonaco officiating.
Dr. David Stone Jackson, Sr.
Dr. David Stone Jackson, Sr., 80, of Nashville, N.C., died May 12 [2003] at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
He was born in Sampson County, April 3, 1923, to the late Carlisle and Bertha Stone Jackson.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of Action.
He practiced dentistry in Nashville, from 1956 until medical retirement in 1976.
He was an active member of Nashville Baptist Church and a charter member of Birchwood Country Club.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine J. McCullen, and brothers Charles E. Jackson, Carlisle Jackson, Jr. and Franklin N. Jackson.
Surviving are his wife, Violet “Sparky” Jackson; a son, Dr. David S. Jackson, Jr. and wife Susie of Clemmons; a daughter, Donna J. Gordon of Greensboro; grandchildren Dr. Julia Lynn Jackson-Newsom and husband Glenn of Greensboro, Jonathan Stone Jackson of Chapel Hill, and Brett Alexander Gordon and Reed Sidney Gordon, both of Greensboro; a great-grandson, Luke David Newsom of Greensboro; three sisters, Emily Lou Hudson of Wilmington, Janie J. Carter of Jacksonville, and Dorothy J. Massey of Eureka; and a sister-in-law, Jean C. Jackson of Gastonia.
Funeral services were held at Nashville Baptist Church, with Rev. Kenny Byrd officiating, and burial followed at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
John Briggs
John Briggs, 54, of Cheraw, S.C., died May 13 [2003].
Born in Radford, Va., he was a son of Edwin Albert and Myrtle Britt Briggs.
He served as a member and then chairman of the advisory council for the Chesterfield County School District Career and Technology Education Program.
He was past chairman of the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce (1996) and on the board of directors of the chamber.
He had served on the Northeastern Technical College board of trustees since April 1999, as chairman of the personnel committee and was a member of a sub-committee of the State Technical College System.
He was a member of the Chesterfield County Economic Development Board and a member of the board of directors for the Chesterfield General Hospital in Cheraw.
He was the human-resource manager of Takata/Highland Industries of Cheraw.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Sue Strickland Briggs of Cheraw; three daughters, Melissa Jane Briggs and Melanie Anne Briggs, both of Columbia, S.C., and Marjorie Anne Briggs of Charlotte; his parents, Edwin Albert and Myrtle Britt Briggs of Lewisville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill Briggs and Becky of Advance, and Ed Briggs, Jr. and Gini of Horseshoe; a sister, Carole Fedchock of Staunton, Va.; and nieces and nephews Christine F. Kelley and Chuck of Staunton, Va., Bob Fedchock and Kim of Gainesville, Ga., Lee Briggs of New York, N.Y., and Nicholas Fedchock of Gainesville, Ga.
A memorial service was held at First United Methodist Church in Cheraw.
John Wesley Gordon, Jr.
John “Jay” Wesley Gordon, Jr., 58, of Clemmons, died May 12 [2003] at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born July 12, 1944, in Alamance County, to John and Daisy Summey Gordon.
He had a career in retail management, having worked in several local drug stores.
He was preceded in death by his parents, with his mother passing away August 10, 2002.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, “B” Gordon, and two sons, Jody Lee Gordon and wife Machella Lee of Winston-Salem, and Cory Eugene Gordon and fiancee Kimberley Jo Cosimano of Winston-Salem.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Pastor Ron Moss officiating.
Katherine Mock Davis
Katherine Mock Davis, 82, a resident of Salemtowne, died May 17 [2003].
She was born in Winston-Salem, on August 12, 1920, the daughter of Jesse and Virginia Jones Mock.
She was a lifetime member of Calvary Moravian Church.
She was formerly employed as an administrative assistant at Triad Postal Credit Union and was a homemaker.
She volunteered at Forsyth Memorial Medical Center and was an avid bridge player with the Thursday Morning Bridge Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Lee “Buddy” Davis; and a sister, Mary Louise Howard.
Surviving are two sons, John Carroll Davis and wife Sandra of Pfafftown, and Richard Lee Davis and wife Wesley of Lewisville; a granddaughter, Amy Nicole Davis of Big Bend, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Moravian Church, with Bishop Lane Sapp officiating, and burial followed in God’s Acre.
Lula Tucker Baldwin
Lula Tucker Baldwin, 82, of Winston-Salem, died May 13 [2003] at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born February 5, 1921, in Yadkin County, to Richard and Ida Willard Tucker.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Robert S. Baldwin of the home; a son, Stephen F. Baldwin and wife Teresa of Clemmons; two daughters, Virginia B. Martin and husband Bob and Linda B. Hooker, all of Kernersville; four grandchildren, Tony Martin, Sandy Francis, Scott Martin and April Baldwin; and two great-grandchildren, Stacy Francis and Ashley Martin.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Francis Smith officiating, and burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Ronald Elwood Brewer
Ronald Elwood Brewer, 48, of Winston-Salem, died May 9 [2003] at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born July 7, 1954 in Forsyth County, a son of Roy and Olene Smith Brewer.
He was a member of First Christian Church and former owner of Brewer Painting Co.
Riding his Harley was his passion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Cordell Brewer, and a brother, David Lee Brewer.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Winston-Salem, are two sisters, Jo Ann Arrington and husband David of Lewisville, and Jan Able of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a very special friend Carole Martin; four nieces Sherry McGuire and husband David, Crystal Spicer and husband Paul, Kristina Able and Amanda Able; a very special grand-nephew, Matt-Matt, and special grand-niece Alli (Baby Libby), and a world of wonderful friends.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel in Kernersville, with Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating, and burial followed in Woodland Cemetery.
