Margaret Evelyn Minge Perret
Margaret Evelyn Minge Perret, 93, of Iowa City, Iowa, died May 13 [2004] in Clemmons.
Born in Fergus Falls, Minn., on May 17, 1910, to Ole and Sarah Minge, she studied advanced piano for several years with Robert Teischmuller, a protege of Clara Schumann, in Leipzig, Germany, and Conrad Hansen in Berlin, Germany.
During her career in Europe, she was one of its leading female pianists, winning First Prize in the prestigious Geneva International Music Competition in 1939.
She was wed on August 24, 1940, to Georges Edouard Perret, who went on to become a professor of neurosurgery at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
In addition, he was an accomplished violinist and painter.
While beginning her family, she continued her career, playing in numerous piano concerts and recitals, and she was the organist for First Baptist Church in Iowa City. She was a Latin and Greek scholar and taught in the Iowa City schools.
She was active in her local community as a member of the Friends of Music, Athens Book Club, League of Women Voters and as a supporter of various peace movements.
She was preceded in death by her husband on September 21, 1987, and by a brother, Raymond Minge, in 1981.
Surviving are her children, Peter James Perret and wife Debra Skeen Perret of Clemmons, Paul Frederic Perret and wife Mary Ann Hurlimann of Menlo Park, Calif., Georgiane Parkes-Perret of Iowa City, Iowa, Charles David Edward Perret and wife Andrea Hauer, of Des Moines, Iowa, George Nicholas Perret and wife Mercedes Costoyas of Samos, Greece, and Philip Oliver Lewis Perret and wife Henni Perret of Katonah, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, Ondine Perret, Eric Perret, Nicholas Parkes-Perret, Sabena Perret, Ariane Parkes-Perret, Cassie Perret, Matias Perret, Zachary Perret, Chloe Perret, Daniel Perret, Michael Perret, Florian Perret and Daniela Perret; and dear friends, Charlie Eble, Georgina Ringo, Hazel Weaver, Ford Parkes-Perret, Himie Voxman, James Lechay, Sonia Albrizio and Juliet Zotikishvili.
A private memorial tea was held at Mrs. Perret’s home in Iowa City, Iowa.
Estelle Shelton Peeples
Estelle Shelton Peeples, 96, died September 11 [2004] at the Clemmons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 23, 1908, in Stokes County, to the late John and Rose Shelton.
She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse E. Peeples.
Surviving are a son, Wayne Peeples of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters, Renee Lawson of High Point, and Shanda Peeples of Clemmons; and a great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Bledsoe.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Zeno Groce officiating, and burial followed at Delta United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sandy Ridge.
Robert Glenn Boone
Robert Glenn Boone, 66, of Rutherford County, died September 9 [2004] in Rutherfordton.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of Atus L. Boone and the late Geneva Williams Boone.
He was a retired construction worker and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his father; his wife, Darlene M. Boone of Forest City; a daughter, Amanda Dawn Boone of North Wilkesboro; two stepsons, Bobby Dale Spainhour of Denver, and Randy Lee Spainhour of Arizona; a sister, Pat Hayes of Advance; three brothers, Daniel Tim Boone of Ellenboro, Earl Boone of Clemmons, and Daniel L. Boone of Advance; and a granddaughter.
A graveside memorial service was held at Rutherfordton City Cemetery, with Rev. Charles R. Street officiating.
Paul Lemar Robinson
Paul Lemar Robinson, 42, of Winston-Salem, died September 8 [2004] at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born June 14, 1962 in Fort Dix, NJ, to Charles Bascom and Faye Suell Robinson.
Surviving are his wife, Lynn Robinson of the home; his parents of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Chuck Robinson and wife Jennifer of Lewisville, Sam Robinson and wife Lorene of Virginia Beach, VA, and Mark Robinson and wife Tracy of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Beverly Jones and husband Bob of West Palm Beach, FL, and Cindy Heidersheit and husband Jeff of Winston-Salem; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Nowell Riley of Winston-Salem; his father-in-law, Alex Thompson and wife Susan of Advance; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Jay Caudle officiating.
Anne L. Bobbitt
Anne L. Bobbitt, 88, of Winston-Salem, died September 9 [2004] at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born November 2, 1915, in Davidson County, to C.J. and Sarah Tesh Leonard.
She was an active member of the Ladies of the Moose, Lodge 466.
She enjoyed playing cards and especially bingo.
Her husband, Samuel Palmer Bobbitt, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Bobbitt Saylor and husband Jim of Lewisville; a son, Joe Bobbitt and wife Sherri of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Michael Saylor and wife Cheryl, Jon Saylor and wife Gaby, Britt Saylor and wife Shannon and Samantha, Gray and Christopher Bobbitt; and four great-grandchildren, Josh McGee and Garrett, Aleea and Ellie Saylor.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, and entombment followed at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Thomas Richard Abbott, Jr.
Thomas Richard Abbott, Jr., 38, of Pfafftown, died recently [Aug 24, 2004] at his home.
Surviving are his parents, Thomas and Kay Abbott of Pfafftown; his brothers, Patrick Abbott and wife Suzanne of Hartford, Conn., and Bill McKee and wife Angela of Garland, Texas; and his grandmother, Stella Abbott of Winston-Salem.
A memorial service was held at Maple Springs United Methodist Church.
Geneva Stewart Alridge
Geneva Stewart Alridge, 90, of Gastonia, died September 5 [2004] in Durham, where she had undergone open-heart surgery in June at Duke University Hospital.
She was born May 6, 1914, in Forsyth County, the daughter of William Clinton Stewart and Lula Morris Stewart.
She was married for 49 years and 11 months to Carl Spencer Alridge, who died in 1982.
She was a member of Gastonia's First Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Robert C. Alridge of Richmond, Va., and Ron Alridge and wife Dorothy of Mint Hill; five grandsons, Robert Carl Alridge, III, now working in Iraq, as a civilian engineer, Richard Patrick Alridge of Richmond, Va., Carl Spencer Alridge, II of Mint Hill, Kerry Hahn Alridge of Richmond, Va., and Stewart Scott Alridge of Holly Springs; a granddaughter, Shelby Alridge Janko of Charlotte; a sister, Marie Stewart Merrill of Clemmons; and seven great-grandchildren, Reilly Kathleen Alridge, Ronald William Alridge, II and Carlynn Denise Alridge, all of Mint Hill, Cassandra Leigh Janko and Michael Tyler Janko, both of Charlotte, Brandon Owen Alridge of Holly Springs, and Rhiannon Jeannette Alridge of Richmond, Va.
Funeral services were held at Founders Chapel at McLean Funeral Directors in Gastonia, with her nephew, Dr. Wilson Stewart, officiating.
Burial followed in Gaston Memorial Park.
Alyne Reich Griffith
Alyne Reich Griffith, 91, formerly of Winston-Salem, died September 9 [2004] at Vienna Village in Pfafftown.
She was born October 22, 1912, in Forsyth County, to John Cicero Reich and Ophelia Phillips Reich.
She spent most of her life in Winston-Salem, and had also lived in Charlotte, and Roanoke, Va.
She was a schoolteacher for private schools.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, and was very active in the community.
She was also a volunteer at N.C. Baptist Hospital.
Surviving are a daughter, Helen Longworth Huntley and husband Bob of Ridgecrest, CA.
Funeral services were held at Vogler’s Reynolda Road Chapel, with Dr. David M. Hughes officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Richard Leonard James
Richard Leonard James, 73, of Statesville, died September 4 [2004] at his home following a period of declining health.
A native of Chicago, Ill., he was born October 26, 1930, to the late Frank Padfield James and Julia Schwuchow James.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and on July 13, 1957, was married to Jane “Sue” Holburn Bryden James.
He served with the U.S. Army in Amberg, Germany, from 1957 to 1959, and established his medical practice in Valders, Wis., from 1959 to 1964.
From 1964 to 1967, he served his medical residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis.
From 1967 to 1976, he practiced in South Milwaukee, Wis.
He returned to active duty with the U.S. Army as a Lt. Col. at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., from 1976 to 1978, as an OB-GYN physician and from 1978 to 1980, was stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany.
From 1980 to 1984, he practiced OB-GYN for R.J. Reynolds Health Care in Winston-Salem, where Dr. and Mrs. James made their home until 2001.
He established a general practice in King, from 1984 to 2001.
He was head of Hospice in Stokes County, and held several offices in the N.C. Medical Society.
He and his wife moved to Statesville, in 2001.
He was an avid lover of music, sports and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Rick James and former wife Vicki of Lewisville, and their children, Trevor, Katelyn and Hannah James of Lewisville; a daughter, Connie J. Morrison and husband Bobby of Statesville, and their children, Suzanne and Amanda Morrison of Statesville; a son, Chris James and wife Missy of Salisbury, and their children, Carson and Mayson James of Salisbury; a sister, Mary J. Tyrey and husband Lee of Durham; a nephew, Scott Tyrey and wife Mary of Raleigh; a niece, Ann T. Payne and husband John of Raleigh; and a nephew, Marc Tyrey and wife Kelly of High Point.
A memorial funeral service was held at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel in Statesville, with Rev. Bobby Henderson officiating.
Thelma W. Mullis
Thelma W. Mullis, 91, of Clemmons, died January 29 [2003] at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born June 27, 1911, in Iredell County, to William Cyrus and Attrie York Wooten.
She was retired from P.H. Hanes Knitting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Webster Mullis, in 1978.
Surviving are two daughters, Josephine Gibbons of East Bend, and Betty Binkley of Clemmons; three sons, James Mullis and wife Melba of Yadkinville, Gilbert Mullis and wife Anita of Advance, and Bobby Garner and wife Daphne of Germanton; a sister, Effie Sheets of Clemmons; a brother, Kenneth Wooten of Statesville; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Dr. Joe Myers officiating, and burial followed at Winthrop Friends Cemetery in Harmony.
Harold Gene Tesh
Harold Gene Tesh, 70, of Clemmons, died January 29 [2003] at his home.
A graveside service was held at Bethlehem Reformed United Church of Christ Cemetery.
