Frances Leatherwood Adams
Frances Leatherwood Adams, 72, of Winston-Salem, died at her residence January 24 [2002].
She was born in Haywood County, on September 16, 1929, to William and Mayme Liner Leatherwood.
She was an active member of First Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, served on the board and was a member of the women's fellowship.
She was also a volunteer at the Samaritan Soup Kitchen.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, James of the home; three sons, Tim Adams and wife Kay of Clemmons, Keith Adams and wife Monica of Winston-Salem, and Neal Adams and wife Lynn of Apex; six grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Vickery, Nancy Duckett, Patsy Cook and Lynda Leonard; and a brother, Charles Leatherwood, all of Waynesville.
A memorial service was held at First Christian Church, with Rev. James Cobb and Rev. Willie Davis officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Robert F. Layton
Robert F. Layton, 72, a native and lifelong resident of Raleigh, died January 23 [2002] at Sunrise of Raleigh.
Born December 19, 1929, to Henry Owen and Emma S. Layton, he was one of four sons.
He served in the U.S. Army in Japan, and Korea, for three years and was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
His brother Marvin B. Layton of Florence, S.C., preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Ellen S. Layton of the home; two sons, Richard F. Layton and wife Beth of Lewisville, and Timothy C. Layton and wife Jalenn of Raleigh; two of his three brothers, Leon E. Layton and J. Gilbert Layton, both of Raleigh; and four grandchildren, Adam Layton, Anna Layton and Daniel Layton of Lewisville, and Madalyn Layton of Raleigh.
Funeral services were held at North Raleigh Funeral Home, and burial followed at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Dorothy M. Eubanks
Dorothy M. "Dottie" Eubanks, 71, of Winston-Salem, died January 24 [2002] at her home.
She was born February 14, 1930, in Forsyth County, to Reuben Dewey and Violet Mae Mabe East.
She and her husband were the owners of Dottie's Diner, 904 Stratford Road from May, 1990.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Joseph Eubanks of the home; her mother, Violet Mabe Walker of Kernersville; her children, Scott Frazier of Lewisville, and Melissa and Burt Flowers of Lewisville, Chris and Cindy Frazier of Indian Trail, Mark Frazier of Winston-Salem, Tony and Jeanette Frazier of Kannapolis, and Mike Frazier of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shelvy Jean Young and Donna Kay Van Dyk; and a brother, Bobby Ray East.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynold Chapel, with Pastor Brian Taylor officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Gertrude Tuttle Ray
Gertrude Tuttle Ray, 81, died January 26 [2002] at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born in Surry County, to Roy and Pearl Gillespie Tuttle on October 9, 1920.
She was retired from Hanes Knitting and Lucia Apparel and worked for K&W Cafeterias, Inc. after her retirement.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Tuttle, and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. Smith.
Surviving are her husband, Garnett Ray, of the home; two sons, Kenneth W. Smith and wife Connie of Clemmons, and Robert Sapp and wife Ruby of Winston-Salem; her mother, Pearl Tuttle of Winston Salem; a brother, Jack Tuttle of Pinnacle; four grandchildren, Pam, Tammy, Kyle, and Michelle; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Adam.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Richard Wallace officiating, and burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Annie Evelyn Lambeth Walker
Annie Evelyn Lambeth "Pee Wee" Walker, 75, of Winston-Salem, died January 24 [2002] at her home.
She was born January 30, 1926, in Forsyth County, to the late Albert David and Annie May Woosley Lambeth.
She was a member of New Eden Moravian Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Harmon.
Surviving are her husband, James Norman Walker of the home; a son, Norman W. Walker of Clemmons; a daughter, Arlene Stalter of Dunn; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Opal Boyd of Clemmons; and a brother, David Lambeth of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at New Eden Moravian Church, with Rev. Robert M. "Bob" Peek, Sr. officiating, and burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Leza Bullard Davis
Leza Bullard Davis, 101, formerly of Clemmons, died February 1 [2002] at Meadowbrook Terrace of Winston-Salem.
She was born August 24, 1900, in Forsyth County, to Enoch Armenius and Minnie Jones Bullard.
She was a lifetime member and also the oldest member of Clemmons First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Gilbert T. Davis, Sr. and wife Melba of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Gilbert T. Davis, Jr. and wife Brenda of Advance; three granddaughters, Mona Jones and husband Jack of Winston-Salem, Donna Keylon of Raleigh, and Rebecca Norman of Winston-Salem; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grand-children.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating, and a private entombment followed at Westlawn Memorial Gardens.
Olive Bowles King
Olive Bowles King, 76, of Pfafftown, died at her home February 1 [2002], following a period of declining health.
A native of Watauga County, she was born October 11, 1925, to Jones Robert and Bettie Caroline Triplett.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1968; her mother in 2001; her first husband, Junior C. Bowles, in 1981; and a granddaughter, Samantha Parkes in 1999.
She was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Pat Reece and husband Rodney of High Point, Gerry King and husband Jack of Pfafftown, and Barbara Bowles of Rural Hall; four grandchildren, Joey Reece, Lavonda Duncan and husband Robert, all of High Point, Darrell Reed of Rural Hall, and Daniel Parkes of Low Gap; six great-grandchildren, Joel Reece, Amanda and Melia Duncan, Dusty Parkes, Brandon Perrell and Kaly Parkes; two sisters, Georgia Hampton and Marilyn Rush, both of Boone; two brothers, Claude Triplett of Boone, and Larry Triplett of Lenoir; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, with Pastor Don Jones officiating, and burial followed in the cemetery.
Alma Kathryn Woosley Murphy
Alma Kathryn Woosley Murphy, 74, of Clemmons, died January 29 [2002] at her home after an illness of 10 years.
She was born April 27, 1927, in Davidson County, to Orville Woosley and Lesty Sleter Lambeth Woosley.
She was a homemaker and a member of Hopewell Moravian Church in Winston-Salem.
Surviving are her husband, Lee Murphy of the home; a son, Randall "Pete" and wife Sylvia Baugus of Welcome; and brothers Webb Woosley of Winston-Salem, and Fred Woosley and Diorphy Woosley, both of Lexington, and Franklin Woosley of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Chaplain A.G. Parker officiating.
Virgil Lee Swaim
Virgil Lee "Buzz" Swaim, 72, of Pfafftown, died January 20 [2002] at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born October 13, 1929, in Yadkin County, to D.T. and Dovey Swaim.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from A.T.& T.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen B. Swaim; four sons, Victor Swaim, Michael Swaim and wife Becky, Richard Swaim and wife Sandra and Keith Swaim and wife Debbie; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Hazel Pruitt Trivette
Hazel Pruitt Trivette, 66, of Conover, died January 28 [2002] at her residence.
She was born July 7, 1935, in Forsyth County, to the late Rev. James Garfield Pruitt and Lola Carter Pruitt.
She retired from Centel Telephone Co. and was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Taylorsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Travis, and a granddaughter, Brittney Faye Trivette.
Surviving are five sons, Lanny Mathis and wife Debbie of Lewisville, James Mathis and wife Judy of Tobaccoville, Johnny Mathis and wife Tammy of Winston-Salem, Carl Trivette and wife Terri of Vale, and Albert Trivette and wife Sharon of Hickory; four daughters, Shirley Hall and husband Rev. James Hall of Thurmond, Jeannie Parker and husband Tracy of Catawba, Alice Miller and husband Gary of Conover, and Frankie Reese and husband Rev. Keith Reese of Taylorsville; two sisters, Jean Whitaker of High Point, and Betty Miller of Taylorsville; four brothers, Rev. Jimmy Pruitt of Elkin, Wade Pruitt of High Point, and Frank Pruitt and Joe Pruitt, both of Grayson, Ga.; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Smyrna Baptist Church in Taylorsville, with Rev. Michael Barber and Rev. Jimmy Pruitt officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
