LAFOND
ARCHDALE -- Mr. Vernon William LaFond, 76, of Archdale, died Sunday, August 29, 1999.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Harold C. Davis Funeral Chapel.
The family will receive friends following the service at the chapel until 8:30 p.m.

MARINE
THOMASVILLE -- Mrs. Dorothy Ellis Marine, 82, of 1531 National Hwy, died Sunday, August 29, 1999 in the High Point Regional Hospital after a one-week illness.
She was born December 24, 1916 in Statesville, N.C., a daughter to the late Harvey Lee and Ava Ann Bailey Ellis.
She was married on September 24, 1940 to the late George F. Marine, who died in 1995.
She was a homemaker. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Linda Peterson of Long Beach, N.C., and Mrs. Brenda Cox of Thomasville; one son, George (Tony) Marine of Thomasville; one sister, Mrs. Sybil Mock of Lexington, N.C.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death be her brother, Maurice Ellis.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Garner and Rev. Joseph Hunt.
Burial will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

MOORMAN
PLEASANT GARDEN -- Mrs. Elizabeth Renfroe Moorman, 55, of 5104 Huntingwood, died Thursday, August 26, 1999 at Beacon Place of Hospice.
A memorial service was held for Mrs. Moorman at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 1999 in the First Moravian Church, with Reverend Graham Rights officiating.
Elizabeth Renfroe Moorman was born on August 11, 1944 to the late James David Renfroe, Jr. and Elizabeth Plank Renfroe.
She grew up in Martinsville, Virginia, and was graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1966, with a degree in Elementary Education.
She taught in public school systems before becoming a teacher of pre-school age children for over fifteen years, the last ten, with the First Presbyterian Church Pre-school in Greensboro.
Mrs. Moorman loved gardening and crafting unique items for family, friends, and the church.
She was devoted to serving First Moravian Church of Greensboro.
Her vitality and loving kindness will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Kenneth A. Moorman of the home; daughters, Stuart Elizabeth Moorman of Winston-Salem, and Hope McNeill Moorman of Boone; her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth P. Renfroe of Martinsville, Virginia; and a sister, Mrs. Catherine R. Garfield of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Memorials may be made to either, the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, Illinois 60018, Beacon Place of Hospice, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, N.C. 27405, or to First Moravian Church, 304 South Elam Avenue, Greensboro, N.C. 27403.

MORRIS
Mrs. Myrtle Ashworth Morris, 100, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The daughter of Dr. Walter Clark Ashworth and Birdie Sapp Ashworth, she was born on Sept. 27, 1898 in Kernersville, N.C. ,
Her childhood was spent in Greensboro.
She was educated in the Greensboro public schools, Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C., and Greensboro College.
Mrs. Morris was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, a life member of W.S.C.S. an was active in the Church President's Ladies Aid Society at Old Centenary Church.
She was a life member of the United Methodist Women, president twice of Susannah Wesley Fellowship Class, Circle leader and secretary several times. She also volunteered as staff assistant with the Red Cross during World War II.
In addition, she was a member of the Camp Betty Hasting Committee, past member of the General Joseph Winston Chapter of D.A.R., and a member of the Woman's Reading Club.
On October 9, 1919, she married Frank Brown Morris, who died in 1984.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. William H. Petree of Winston-Salem, Mrs. John C. Houbolt of Williamsburg, Va., and Mrs. W. Perrin Steele of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, William He. Petree, Jr. and Mrs. Frank Murphy, both of Winston-Salem, Mrs. P. Tucker Withington of Plymouth, Mass., Mrs. Matthew G. Hayes of St. Albans, Vermont, Mrs. Carl D. Winter of Morristown, New Jersey, John W. Gainey, III, and Frank H. Gainey, both of Morehead City, N.C.; fourteen great-grandchildren, William H. (Chip) Petree, III, Stacey Petree Davis, Mary Elizabeth Murphy, William F. Murphy, James Patrick Murphy, Lauren Cornelia Withington, Whitney Withington, Ryan Winter, Carla winter, Kristin Ashworth Gainey, Ashley Elizabeth Gainey, Brooke Hodges Gainey, Alicia Gainey, and Frank Holland Gainey, Jr.; one great-great-grandchild, Wesley Hurst.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Salem Cemetery, Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Roland Barnhardt.
A memorial service will be held at the Triad United Methodist Home, Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Dr. Lee Tuttle and Rev. Roland Barnhardt.
The family will receive friends at the Home following the memorial service.

NANCE
KERNERSVILLE -- Mrs. Donna Aaron Nance, 40, of 557 Country View Dr., Winston-Salem, died Monday, August 30, 1999, at her home.
She was born in Forsyth Co., a daughter of James Garfield and the late Carrie Henderson Aaron.
Mrs. Nance was a graduate of Forsyth Technical College.
She was an LPN at WFU/Baptist Medical Center.
Surviving are her husband, Mr. William E. Nance and daughter, Miss Amber B. Nance of the home; her father, Mr. James G. Aaron, Sr. and step-mother, Mrs. Cheryl W. Aaron of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Dianne Messick of Winston-Salem, Paulette Smith and Phyllis Seagle of Kernersville; one brother, James G. Aaron, Jr. of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Hayworth Miller Cain, Kernersville Chapel, by Dr. John Y. Clagett. \
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice, 1100-C S. Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

ROPER
TOBACCOVILLE -- Mrs. Virginia Dolores Roper, 69, of 8200 Stroupe Farm Road, Tobaccoville, died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at her home.
She was born August 12, 1930 in Forsyth County, to Robert and Virginia Elkins Sealey.
Mr. Roper attended New Hope Baptist Church.
She was a 1949 graduate of Hanes High School, where she excelled in all sports and was voted most outstanding female athlete of Winston-Salem.
For 17 years, she was bookkeeper for Frank A. Stith Company and retired from Dixie Furniture Company in Walkertown.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth R. Roper of the home; one son, David Wayne Roper of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Lindy R. Southern and husband, John of Greensboro; one grandson, Matthew Christian Roper of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers, Carlton Leroy Sealey and wife, Ann of Lexington, and James Robert Sealey of Greensboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church by Dr. Charles Carver.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m., at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 4911 Old Rural Hall Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27105.

ROYALL
James Hobert Royall, 57, of P.O. Box 1694, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina.
Died Monday, August 30, 199 at his residence.
Mr. Royall was born in Wilkes County, Traphill, North Carolina, on June 22, 1942 to Thomas L. and Vera Hatcher Royall.
He was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church in Dobson, North Carolina.
He was a retired driver for a building material company.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Darlene Royall; two sons and daughter-in-law, James "Jamie" and Heather Royall of Mount Airy, North Carolina, and Donnie and Joyce Royall of King, North Carolina; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya Royall of Rhode Island, Annette and Mark Mounce of Mt. Airy, N.C., and Linda and Bert Thompson of Seattle, Washington; his mother, Vera Hatcher Royall of Dobson, N.C.; five grandchildren, Crystal Mounce of Mt. Airy, Brandon Mounce of Mt. Airy, Amber Royall of Winston-Salem, Faith Royall of Mt. Airy, and Juliette Thompson of Seattle, Washington; brothers, Curtis Royall of Dobson, Robert Royall of Mt. Park, N.C., Russell Royall of Baltimore, Maryland, Paul Royall of Baltimore, and Odel Royall of Stuart, Virginia; sisters, Myrtle May Gilly of Sparta, N.C., Barbara Anna Royall of Baldwin, Ga., and Mary Jane Royall of Dobson.
Services will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 1999, at 11:00 a.m., at the Cox-Needham Chapel, with Rev. Irving Galamore of Faith Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Royall Family Cemetery located at Liberty Knob Baptist Church, in Wilkes County, N.C.
Family will receive friends and family at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 31, 1999 from 7 to 9 p.m. and, at other times, at the Mounce residence, 1509 Airview Dr., Mt. Airy.
The Royall family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Hospice of Surry County, 1326 N. Main Street, Mt. Airy, N.C. 27030. Services arranged by Cox-Needham Funeral Services of Pilot Mountain, N.C.

SWAIN
Ms. Carol Absher Swain, 64, of 61 Hoskins Dr., Winston-Salem, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born April 18, 1935 in Wilkes County, to Thamar and Goldie Burchette Absher.
Ms. Swain was owner and operator of Forest Hill Beauty Salon.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thamar Absher.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Ray Swain and wife Linda and Shawn Eric Swain; two daughters, Susan S. Williams and husband Henry and Sandy D. Swain; her mother, Goldie B. James; three grandchildren, Richard and Michael Swain and D.J. Williams, all of Winston-Salem; one sister, Barbara Eisenlohr and husband Gerald of Kernersville; a special friend, Paul R. Swain.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Selby McManus officiating.
Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and, at other times, at 61 Hoskins Dr., Winston-Salem, N.C.

WATSON
Mr. David Robert Watson, 52, of 2270 Darwick Rd., died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 2, 1947 in Guilford County, to Jack Lee Watson and Lillian Jeanette Myers Watson.
Mr. Watson graduated from West Forsyth High School.
He was a member of Hope Moravian Church, the Elks Lodge #449, and co-owner of Piedmont Flight Center.
He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are his wife Mrs. Vicky Jones Watson, one daughter Heather Watson Branch and husband Kenny of Winston-Salem, two sisters Linda Watson Atkinson and husband William of Boca Raton, Fla., Janet Watson Holder and husband Carter of Gray, Tenn.; sister-in-law Janet and Dan Jennings of Lewisville, four nephews Allen and Brian Atkinson, Tom and Tim Holder, one niece Lisa Robertson, his aunt, Fern Simmons of Winston-Salem, and his uncle Fred Myers of Greensboro.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Moravian Church.
Rev. Galen Hahn, and Rev. David Merritt will officiate.
Burial will follow in the church Graveyard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Hope Moravian Church, 2759 Hope Church Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27127.

ARNETT
LEXINGTON -- Jashunn Leonard Arnett, 20, of Lampan Lane, Winston-Salem, passed on Friday, September 10, 1999, at his home unexpectedly.
He was a graduate of Carver High School in Winston-Salem, and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his parents, Heyward Bryant and Juanita Arnett both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother, Anthony C. Arnett of Durham, N.C.; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Gladys Arnett of Lexington; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hazel Bryant of Lake City, S.C.; and a host of other loving and caring relatives and friends.
Homegoing services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at 3:00 p.m., from the Chapel of the Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home in Lexington.
The Rev. Dr. Dewey Smith will deliver the words of comfort and burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery. .
The family will receive friends one half hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Remains may be viewed today, from noon until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home and, at other times, the family will be at the home of the maternal grandmother at 111 Thurgood Ave., in Lexington.
