PORTER
HIGH POINT -- Mrs. Sylvia Watson Porter, 75, of 3951 Johnson St., died September 12, 1999 at her residence.
She was born March 11, 1924 in Mintonville, Ky., the daughter of Winford Alister and Ruth Hughes Watson.
She had been a resident of High Point, for twenty-four years and was a homemaker.
On April 20, 1946, she married and is survived by Bobby P. Porter of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca A. Bess and her husband, Rev. Walter Bess of Fairfax, Calif., and Mrs. Cynthia L. Price and her husband, Jim of High Point; a son, John M. Porter of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Cleta Callahan of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. Peggy Snyder of Science Hill, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Erik Price and Matthew Price.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home Chapel in Science Hill, Ky.
Burial will be at Valley Oak Cemetery in Argyle, Ky.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Sechrest Funeral Home, in High Point, N.C., and one hour before the service in Science Hill, Ky. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 5275, High Point, N.C. 27262.
Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point, is in charge of local arrangements.

PRIOR
Mr. Dupont Newton Prior, 84, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 1999 at Yadkinville Nursing Center.
Mr. Prior was born on October 21, 1914 in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, to Willie Wallace and Effie Savannah Carter Prior.
There will be a graveside service conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 1999, at Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery, by Dr. Cecil Cave, Jr., Rev. Danny Prior, and Rev. Tim Gammons.
Mr. Prior spent most of his life in Winston-Salem, and was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church.
He had worked with the Boy Scouts of America through the Old Hickory Council.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jerry Alexander of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 1999 at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel.
The family asks that memorials be made to Mineral Springs Baptist Church Radio Ministries, 3733 Ogburn Avenue, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27105.

REAVES
Mr. Mark Douglas Reaves, 45, died Sunday, September 12, 1999 at his mother's home on Sylvia St.
He had been a resident of Jack and Jeannie's Family Care Home in Walkertown.
He was born January 6, 1954, to Daniel M. and Pearl Gilmore Reaves.
Mr. Reaves was a member of Northwest Baptist Church and was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School in 1972.
He attended Chowan College and received an Associate Degree from Forsyth Technical Community College.
He participated in the Sister Program in 1971 in Bucaramanga, Columbia, South America as a Spanish Exchange Student.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1987.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Pearl Reaves of the home; one sister, Shirley Reaves Prince and husband, Jimmy of High Point; four brothers, Danny M. Reaves and wife, Vicky of Winston-Salem, Brad P. Reaves and wife, Anne of Greensboro, Allen D. Reaves and wife, Carmen of El Cerrito, California, and Rick G. Reaves and wife, Patrice of Greensboro; two nephews; and five nieces.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Dr. Jeff Roberts officiating.
Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Northwest Baptist Church, Elevator Fund, 407 Petree Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27106, or to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C S. Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

REYNOLDS
Mr. Daniel Ferdinand Reynolds, 90, of 718 Westover Avenue, died Sunday, September 12, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Mr. Reynolds was born October 4, 1908 in Winston-Salem, to Lamb Archibald and Bessie Binkley Reynolds.
He was secretary of L.A. Reynolds Company and general manager of the Nursery and Landscape Department for 30 years.
He was president of ReyNol, Inc., which was a real estate holding corporation, and vice-president of Reynolds Construction.
He served as president of the North Carolina Nurserymen's Association and the Winston-Salem Lions Club.
He was also past president of the Southern Nursery Association.
Other memberships include the Forsyth Country Club, Twin City Club, and Seven Devils Resort Club.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a WWII Veteran, serving in the U.S. Marines.
In addition to his memberships, Mr. Reynolds was an avid golfer and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Toner Reynolds and three brothers, Frank T. Reynolds, Galloway G. Reynolds, and Tom Reynolds.
Surviving are one daughter, Robin Reynolds of the residence; one son, Peter A. Reynolds and wife, Judith of Corvallis, Montana; one sister, Ruth Hartle of Lewisville; and two brothers, Herbert Reynolds and wife, Pat of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at 11:00 a.m., in Centenary United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.

THOMPSON
Mrs. Armenta T. Thompson, of 2351 Patterson Avenue, passed away Saturday, Septmeber 11, 1999 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, following a period of illness.
She was a native of Lancaster, S.C., where she attended the public schools and was a resident of Winston-Salem, for over forty years.
Mrs. Thompson was a former employee of Winston Leaf & Tobacco Company and a member of the Hanes Memorial CME Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thompson and son, Willie George Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at 3:00 p.m., from the Hanes Memorial CME Church, with Dr. Michael K. Williams, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.
Surviving are a son, Bobby Thompson of the home; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; seven sister, Hester T. Blassingame, Louise T. McCullough, and Helen T. Blackmon, all of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mary Alice (Heyward) Stewart, Reva J. (Rev. Bennie) Stinson, Pauline (Kelly) Benson, and Catherine (Otis) Coffey, all of Lancaster, S.C.; two brothers, George Thompson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Edgo (Sarah) Thompson of Lancaster, S.C.; three sisters-in-law, Letha Thompson of Brooklyn, Euphemia Thompson of Washington, D.C., and Mary (Robert) Eldridge of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one aunt, Mrs. Hattie P. Ingram of Lancaster; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family may be contacted and the cortege will assemble and leave from the residence at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday. (HOOPER)

ADAMS
Mr. Pete Edward Adams, 68, of Luther Street died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Meadowbrook Terrace.
Mr. Adams was born in Yadkin County, on Aug. 19, 1932, to Thomas Zemriah Adams and Lucinda McCollum Adams.
Surviving are a son, Jimmy Adams and wife Melva of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Crystal, Jamie, Robert, Rebecca, William, Joshua and Steven; five great-grandchildren, Merranda, Jeffery, Kimberly, Amanda and Monica; four brothers, Ray, Howard, Alvin and Robert; and three sisters, Erie Ridings, Jean Tuttle and Jane Colley.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Parklawn Memorials Gardens, with the Rev. Bill Chatman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

BONNER
Ms. Lillie Hardy Bonner of 285 Parkwood Court, departed this life Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at her residence.
She was born in Winston-Salem, on May 15, 1948, to the late Samuel and Lula B. Hardy.
Lillie was a devoted and faithful member of Mercy Seat Holy Church.
She was formerly employed at Winston-Salem Savings & Loan and as a substitute teacher for the Forsyth County school system.
Lillie was preceded in death by her sister, Lola; her father, Samuel, Sr.; her brother, Samuel, Jr.; her mother, Lula; and her sister, Pearlie Hardy.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Terri Holmes; a son, Tavoris Holmes, both of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Rhea Gist, Courtnie Holmes and Jordyn Anderson all of Winston-Salem; five sisters, Mamie H. Caldwell, Mary (Timothy) Alexander, Evelyn (Samuel) Conrad, Catherine (Taft) Mack and Burnu (Joseph) Rucker; two brothers, William Grady (Chris) Hardy and Theodore Hardy; an uncle, Ruben McQuilla; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Mercy Seat Holy Church, with Bishop T.R. Rice officiating.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence.

BROWN
Mrs. Evelyn "Tip" Poole Brown, 86, died Wednesday night, at the Triad United Methodist Home, following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Fletcher Lee and Connie Haley Poole of Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Brown attended school in Switzerland, and was a graduate of Sweetbriar College.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur William Brown, in 1986.
Surviving are her daughter, Robin Pennazoli; her son, Paul P. Brown and wife Margaret, all of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Candace, Angela, Jeff, Todd and Ricky Perryman; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. Jeff White.
The family will receive friends following the service.

CHILDRESS
Mr. James Monroe Childress, 61, of Walkertown, died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born in Forsyth County, on June 4, 1939 to Earlie Richard and Cleo Blakley Childress.
Mr. Childress was a retired truck driver and was currently the owner of D&S Consignment Shop.
Surviving are his wife, Essie Overby Childress of the home; six children, Patricia, Judy, James, Jr., Darrell, Bryant and Michael Childress, all of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Frances "Sissy" Brown of Walkertown, Shirley (Larry) Butcher of Dobson, and Lillian "Lynn" Choplin of Winston-Salem; two half-sisters, Alfie Mae Wilson of Winston-Salem, and Dorothy Sumner of Charlotte; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and especially his best friends, his bird Chipper and his dogs.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Dry Pond Church of Christ Cemetery, near Stuart, Va., conducted by Brother Roger Cranfill. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
The family request no flowers.
Memorials may be made to the James Childress Memorial Fund, c/o BB&T, 3001 Waughtown St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

DANIELS
Prominent educator Zelma Daniels succumbs at 92.
The Celebration of Life and Musical Tribute for Zelma Creola Daniels, mother of Donna L. Rice and Joseph Rondal Daniels, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the First Baptist Church of East Winston-Salem.
Interment will immediately follow the ceremony.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Russell Funeral Home in Winston-Salem.
