FLETCHER

Mrs. Libenus Neal Fletcher, 79, of 505 Kinard Drive, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Nursing Center at Oak Summit, following a period of illness.
She was a native of Union, S.C., born April 29, 1921, the daughter of Sudie and Benjamin Neal.
She was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Elizabeth Missionary Group and the Sunday school.
She was a retired employee of the Camel City Laundry and Dry Cleaners, with over 30 years of service.
She is survived by a very devoted daughter, Addie Jabbar (Al) of the home; three sons, Graham Fletcher (Priscilla) of Raleigh, William Henry Fletcher and Anthony Curtis Fletcher, both of Winston-Salem; a stepson, Thomas Fletcher Sims (Vale) of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, two devoted, LaToya Marsh (James), Tasheika Davis and Tijuan Simon, Trellis Simon, Tomorrow Simon and Derek Simon; two great-grandchildren, Avery Marsh and Taelore Marsh; a sister, Pearl Moses of Philadelphia; a devoted niece, Alberta Fair; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, with Dr. Derenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. (RUSSELL)

FOY

Pamela Hicks Foy, 50, died Sept. 1, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Pamela was the loving daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.W. and Joyce Hicks.
Surviving are her father, "Bill;" sister Sheila Edwards; nephew Kenny Edwards; and grand-nephew Lane Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Cancer Research Center.
A memorial service will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at the home of her sister.
All close friends and family are invited to attend.

GABRIEL

Mr. Robert Ray Gabriel, Sr., 69, of 2463 Westfield Ave., died at home Thursday morning.
He was born in Mooresville, on Aug. 8, 1931, to Joe Ray and Rena Alley Gabriel.
Mr. Gabriel served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from USAir in 1989 after 30 years of service.
He served on the boards of Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball.
Mr. Gabriel had been a member of the Exchange Club and the local Corvair Club.
For many years, he was a member of Bethabara Moravian Church, where he played in the church band.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Harrison Gabriel of the home; a daughter, Martha Elizabeth Gabriel of Ithaca, N.Y.; two sons, Robert Ray Gabriel, Jr. and wife Ann of Richmond, Va., and Joel Parks Gabriel and wife Linda of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Katherine Crumley, Jenna Rae Gabriel, Jason Thomas Gabriel, Jacob Parks Gabriel, Brittany Nicole Gabriel and Jeremy Dwayne Gabriel; and a sister, Betty Jo Lowrance of Mooresville.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethabara Moravian Church, conducted by the Rev. Don Griffin and the Rev. Bill Campbell.
Interment will follow in Bethabara Moravian Graveyard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Vogler and Sons Reynolds Road Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Capital Improvement Fund, Bethabara Moravian Church, 2100 Bethabara Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

GOODYEAR

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Patricia O'Neil Goodyear, a retired vice-president of corporate communications at T. Rowe Price, was killed in an automobile accident Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, on U.S. 50, near Queenstown.
She was 62.
Mrs. Goodyear, who lived at Harbor Court Condominium in Baltimore, was driving to her farm near Cambridge, when she lost control of her car and struck a tree.
She joined T. Rowe Price, a money-management company, in the mid-1960s as an executive secretary.
After she was promoted to vice-president of corporate communications, Mrs. Goodyear established the Shareholder Communications Department, which produces quarterly reports and other communications sent to shareholders.
She retired in 1996.
"Patricia was the consummated professional." said George Collins, the former chief executive officer of T. Rowe Price.
"She was a very honest person who set high standards." said Janice McCrory, a friend of 35 years, and an assistant vice-president of T. Rowe Price.
Mrs. Goodyear's civic interests including serving on the board of the South Baltimore Learning Center and on the collection committee of the Walters Art Gallery.
"She had two central ingredients that made the Walters live and prosper," said Walters director Gary Vikan.
"She loved the Walters and understood its position in the community. She had a very gentle spirit that was admired by all. Her death comes as an absolute shock to me and she will be sorely missed."
Another interest was the South Baltimore Learning Center, where she was a member of the organization's board and was a co-chairwoman of its capital fund-raising campaign.
"She played a major role in our fund-raising effort and was extremely dedicated to our mission to bring literacy and job skills to the disadvantaged of South Baltimore." said Sonia Socha, the executive director.
"She was very dedicated to the center and helped establish our credibility.
It gave her great joy to be able to help the less fortunate. She truly had a caring heart."
A tireless worker, it wasn't uncommon to see Mrs. Goodyear busily stuffing envelopes or helping organize a fund-raising activity .
"She was our highest individual donor but never wanted any recognition." said Ms. Socha. "She felt strongly about literacy and thought that education could help solve many of society's problems." said Ms. McCrory.
Mrs. Goodyear enjoyed spending time with her husband and entertaining friends at their 100-acre farm near Cambridge, which dates to the 1840s.
She also enjoyed flower gardening.
She was a member of the Baltimore Country Club and was the first woman elected to the club's board of governors.
She wrote a history of the club, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1998.
Patricia O'Neil was born and raised in Winston-Salem.
In 1960, she received her Bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University, where she was an active alumna and had served on the board of visitors.
She was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, 5200 N. Charles St., where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Spedden Seward Cemetery, Hillspoint Road, Cambridge.
She was the beloved wife of James A. Goodyear; loving sister-in-law of Fred J. Goodyear; and aunt of Jennifer Goodyear, Lisa Murphy, Neil Whitley and Michael Goodyear.
She is also survived by five grandnephews.
Contributions to South Baltimore Learning Center, 28 E Ostend St., Baltimore, Md. 21230, or the Walters Art Gallery, in Mrs. Goodyear's memory, will be appreciated.

HEDGEPATH

Mary Roberson "Maggie" Hedgepath, 85, a resident of 1050 Wendover Circle, Winston-Salem, and a former resident of 224 Cherry St., Henderson, died Tuesday at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
She was a native of Vance County, and was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Artelia Stanton Roberson.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, at St. John's Episcopal Church, by the Rev. John Simons.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph E. Hedgepath of the home; a daughter, Susan M. White of Winston-Salem; a brother, the Rev. Lemuel Gibbons Roberson of Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Gilda Gray R. Leonard of Henderson; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 974, Henderson, NC 27536, or to Winston-Salem Hospice, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home in Henderson.

HESTER

Mr. James David Hester, Sr., 68, of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at his home.
He was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Catawba County to the late Floyd Lee and Lela Hallman Hester.
Mr. Hester was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
He was a retired master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force, with 21 years of service.
He was later employed with Wilson Pest Control.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Richard Hester, and a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Wiesener.
Surviving are MaryLee Hester of Clemmons; a daughter, Cathy Wiesner and husband Steve of King; a daughter, Debbie James and husband Jeff of Pfafftown, and their daughter, Courtney; a son, James David Hester, Jr. and wife Eva of St. Petersburg, Fla., their son Samuel and daughter Sara; a son, Mike Hester and wife Tricia of Advance, their son, Michael and daughter Karen; a son, Greg Hester and wife Cassie of Winston-Salem, their daughter, Emily and son Kyle; and two sisters, Grace Sherrill and husband Sydney and Jeannine Miller and husband Harold, all of Conover.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, with Father Frank O'Rourke officiating.
Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory, with military rites by the District 11 Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

LEWIS

Mrs. Shirley McLaurin Lewis of 2524 Reynolds Park Road, quietly and serenely departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000.
She was born to Henry and Pearline McLaurin on Feb. 20, 1947.
She attended Carver Crest (L.A. Cook) and Paisley Senior High School.
Mrs. Lewis was an employee of US Airways for 21 years.
She was member of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist, where she was an ordained deaconess.
She served as vice president of the deaconess board.
She leaves to mourn her husband, Henry I. Lewis, Jr.; a daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Williams; a son, Henry (Joy) I. Lewis, III; six grandchildren, Devin, Kevin, Junior (who preceded her in death), Briana and Kaylen Williams, Shana and Jermaine Lewis; sister Elizabeth (Ronald) Dendy; two nieces, Ronnetta (Kevin) Canty of Charlotte, and Tonya Hairston and a host of relatives and friends.
God saw the road was getting rough,
the hills were hard to climb.
He gently closed those loving eyes
and whispered Peace Be Thine.
The weary hours, the days of pain,
the sleepless nights are past,
the ever-patient, worn-out frame
has found sweet rest at last.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, where the Rev. Charles W. Leak will officiate.
Burial will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at the Gilmore Chapel.
The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence.

MALTBIE

Dorothy Paige Maltbie, 89, of 1244 Arbor Road, A-402 Corpening Triad Methodist Home, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Maltbie was born in Ticonderoga, N.Y., on Feb. 27, 1911, the daughter of the late Clarence and Elise Foster.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church from 1946 to 1983, and was active in the Arbor Acres United Methodist Home Church community since 1983. She worked at the post office in Brant Lake, N.Y., before her marriage, and was preceded in death by her husband, Armstrong Maltbie, in 1983.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at the Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Home in Winston-Salem.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arbor Acres United Methodist Community, 1240 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.

McGEE

Mrs. Alpha "Pat" Louise Lawson McGee, 74, of 186 Hoy Long Road, Winston-Salem (Midway community), passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born May 14, 1926, in Forsyth County, the daughter of the late E. Creed Lawson and Beatrice S. Lawson.
She was the widow of Henry T. McGee, Jr. and was also preceded in death by four brothers; a sister; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
Mrs. McGee was retired from Hanes Hosiery Division and worked several years for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school's cafeterias.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Lewis and husband Richard; a son, Stephen McGee and wife Sharon; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Settle and Earline Ketner; special nieces and nephews; and many faithful friends.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
