PENDERGRASS
YADKINVILLE -- Mr. Harry Lee Pendergrass, Sr., 61, of 1605 Haire Road, died Friday, October 8, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 16, 1937 to George Pendergrass and Flo Walker Pendergrass Smith. He was a graduate of Greer Diesel School in Chicago, Ill. in 1958. He retired from Road Way Express after 32 years of service and was a life time farmer. Mr. Pendergrass was a veteran serving with the 28th Infantry Division in Heilbronn, Germany. He was preceded in death by his father, George Pendergrass in 1990 and a son, Darren T. Pendergrass in 1998. Surviving are his wife, Betty Hudson Pendergrass of the home; his children, Harry Lee Pendergrass, Jr., Dennis (Tina) Pendergrass, Libby Pendergrass, Annette Pendergrass, Betsi Pendergrass and fiance, Eric McBee, David Pendergrass, and Bertha Sanchez; one sister, Jo Aannowee McFarlane of Surfside Beach, S.C.; two brothers, Roger Pendergrass and R.G. Pendergrass both of Winston-Salem; ten grandchildren, Travis, Andy, Krish, Randy, Trey, Landon, Angel, Paige, Brittany, and McKayla; and one great-grandchild, Lauren Caudle. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 1999 at Gentry Family Chapel, Hwy. 601 N. Yadkinville conducted by the Rev. Roger Elmore. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Friends Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service.
PERRY
NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Isedo Perry, 84, widow if V.M. Perry of Flint Hill Road, North Wilkesboro, died Friday, October 8, 1999 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Perry was born July 2, 1915 in Wilkes County to Con M. and Millie Cleary Wagoner. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, R.C. Perry and a sister, Lillie Key. Surviving are two sons, Roe M. Perry of Wilkesboro and Pete V. Perry of North Wilkesboro; two daughters, Annie Ruth Sloop of Wilkesboro and Savannah Souther of North Wilkesboro; three brothers, Robert Wagoner of McGrady, Mack Wagoner of Wilkesboro, and Owen Wagoner of Millers Creek; one sister, Grace Furr of Kannapolis; four half-brothers, Jack Wagoner of Millers Creek, Lee Wagoner of North Wilkesboro, Bear Wagoner, and Dean Wagoner both of Mocksville; fourteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 o'clock Monday at Flint Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Richardson and the Rev. Kevin Souther officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service, 180 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro from 6:30 until 8:30 Sunday night. RIGGANS
YADKINVILLE -- Mrs. Betty Ellen Hodges Riggans, 87, Fleming Road, Yadkinville, died Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at her home. She was born January 9, 1912 to the late James Samuel and Betty Jane White Hodges. Mrs. Riggans was a homemaker, a member of Charity Baptist Church in Boonville, and attended Pilot View Friends Meeting when her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Riggans of June 13, 1986; by a son, J.D. Riggans; an infant daughter, and ten brothers and sisters. Surviving are three daughters, Betty Lou (J.C.) Freeman of Dobson, Barbara (Lawrence) Carter of Yadkinville, and Cathy (Gary) Snow of Yadkinville; one sister, Rannie White of Elkin; two brothers, Henry Hodge of Yadkinville and Levi Hodge of Elkin; seven grandchildren, Patricia (Joey) Hunsucker, Scott (Beth) Carter, Kent (Scarlet) Carter, Cindy (Rocky) Foster, Lynn (Amy) Snow, Greta Snow, and Heath Snow; and five great-grandchildren, Greg Hunsucker, Alaina Hunsunker, Matthew Carter, Jared Carter, and Samantha Foster. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 1999 at Pilot View Friends Meeting with the Rev. C.G. White officiating. BARNES
Gladys Elizabeth Lynch Barnes, known to some as ''Lib'' and ''Liz'' to many, departed this life on Saturday, October 2, 1999. Mrs. Barnes was born November 4, 1925 in Winston-Salem to Lenora Howell Lynch and Fred Lynch. She moved to Washington, D.C. in the late sixties, and there she met and married Sgt. Len Barnes who was later killed in action in the Korean War. Mrs. Barnes lived in Washington for some forty years until her health failed. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Mrs. Barnes leaves to cherish her memories and loving kindness, special nieces, Gloria and Angela Whitmire, Judith Whitmire-Bryant (Edward), and Priscilla Lynch Ledbetter of Charlotte, N.C.; nephews, Kenneth Rasheed (Gwendolyn) and Jay Springs (Nellie) of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Whitmire; devoted cousins, Mary E. Hairston (Eldridge) of Rural Hall and Sandra Brown (James T.) of Mitchellville, Maryland; former employers, Bill and Florence Rozansky of Maryland; dear friends, Floyd Rawlinson, Frances Boyd, and Edith Taylor all of Washington, D.C.; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Mrs. Barnes will be funeralized at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. on Thursday, October 7, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. Her remains may be viewed from 7-9 p.m. wednesday at Frazier's Funeral Home. MOORESVILLE -- Edith Lytle Caldwell, 88, of 256 Templeton Road, Mooresville, died Monday, October 4, 1999 in Clemmons. She was born October 18, 1910 in Iredell County the daughter of the late Alice Cloninger and Walter Lytle. She was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Moore Caldwell in 1969. Surviving are a son, Larry Caldwell of Mooresville; a brother, Rupert Lytle of Mooresville; a granddaughter, Susan Brawley and husband, Douglas of Clemmons; a grandson, David Caldwell and wife, Karen of Mooresville; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. thursday at Fair View United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. David Christy. Burial will be in the church cemetery. KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. George Wesley Cayton, Sr., 44, of 9228 Glenn Cross Dr., died Monday, October 4, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Greenbriar County, V.Va. a son of the late Aubry Manson and Stella Mae Hensley Cayton. He retired from the U.S. Army. He was a YMCA Baseball Coach, an Umpire at Swaim Sports Complex, and a member of the Twin City Officials Association. Mr. Cayton was an avid hunter. Surviving are his wife, Della Walton Cayton; two daughters, Valerie Cayton Livengood of Walkertown and Crystal Cayton of Winston-Salem; a son, George Wesley Cayton, Jr. of the home; four sisters, Betty Sims of Greensboro, Ruby Tilley of Madison, Bertha Scott of Fayetteville, and Becky Craft of Lewisburg, W.Va.; three brothers, Darrell Cayton and John Cayton of Kernersville, and Jimmy Cayton of Waiteville, Wash.; and two grandsons, Justin and Eric Livengood. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, October 8, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel, Kernersville. MT. AIRY -- Mrs. Eddis Simmons Collins, 75, of 108 Woodale St., King, N.C and formerly of Mt. Airy, widow of the late Mr. Harvey Houston Collins, passed away on Monday, October 4, 1999 at The Nursing Center at Oak Summit, Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Collins was born in Surry County on March 11, 1924, daughter of the late George Washington and Runie Simmons Simmons. She was a retired employee of Lynn Hosiery Mill and member of Friendly Chapel Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Charles Crayton of King, N.C.; one grandson, Patrick Bradley Crayton of Greensboro, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Brittni Crayton, Halston Crayton, and Jenna Crayton all of Greensboro; and by one sister, Janice Thomas of Mt. Airy. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy, N.C. conducted by Brother Don Collins and Rev. EAST BEND -- Mrs. Fern Warden Cornelius, 84, of 5317 Speas Ferry Road, died Sunday, October 3, 1999 at the Yadkin Nursing Center in Yadkinville. She was born in Yadkin County on June 7, 1915 to Bettie Reece Warden. She was a member of Stony Knoll United Methodist Church where she was a charter member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Cornelius graduated from East Bend High School in 1934. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Cornelius and two grandchildren, Jason and Ashley Cornelius. Surviving are her children, Bettie (Robert) Ratledge of Yadkinville, Phyllis (Spencer) Greene of Clemmons, Alvis (Hazel) Cornelius of Yadkinville, Jerry (Dottie) Cornelius, Keith Cornelius, and Fred Cornelius all of East Bend, and Joel (Gloria) Cornelius of Yadkinville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at 2:00 at the Stony Knoll United Methodist Church by Rev. Dan McClure. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 to lie instate. GERMANTON -- Mrs. Margaret Arlene Beals Eiler, 82, of Germanton, died Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Village Care of King after a lengthy illness. She was born January 8, 1917 to Thadius and Jessie Beals. She was a homemaker and a member of Fulp Moravian Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Eiler. Surviving are two daughters, Lucy and husband, Peter Howlett of Smyrna, Delaware and Linda and husband, Leonard Partridge of King; one brother, Rev. Gerald Beals of Brunswick, Maine; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Fulp Moravian Graveyard. YADKINVILLE -- Mr. Homer Gabard, 91, of Fleming Road, Yadkinville, died Monday, October 4, 1999 at Hoots Memorial Hospital. He was born December 2, 1907 to the late Charlie and Etta Reece Gabard. Mr. Gabard was a retired educator in the Yadkin County School System, serving more than 40 years. He was a member of Yadkinville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Margaret F. Gabard of the home; three daughters, Karen (Paul) Moore of Simpsonville, S.C., Reda (Larry) Gill of Midlotheion, Va., and Carlotta (Bob) Bressan of Ann Arbor, Michigan; one son, Homer R. (Ursula) Gabard of Jackson, S.C.; five grandchildren, Ginger (Chris) Mullins of Harrisonburg, Va., Kevin S. Moore of Greenwood, S.C., Jeff T. Moore of Simpsonville, S.C., Kimberly A. Moore of Clemson College, and Caroline Bressan of Ann Arbor, Michigan; one great-grandchild, Simon A.
