MEANS
Ms. Carrie Means was the daughter of the late Maggie Dee and Eward Andrew Lindsay. She departed this life on Thursday, September 30, 1999 at Springwood Nursing Home in Winston-Salem, N.C. Ms. Means was born November 15, 1899 She was the last living sibling of a family of thirteen children. At her death she was 99 years young. During her life, Ms. Means was a domestic worker of Akers Transfer Company on Charlotte, N.C. Ms. Means also raised many children. During her marriage to the late Ernest White was born one child, Marie. Ms. Means was a faithful member of the Seigle Ave. Church of God where she served under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus W.D. Bailey. Due to declining health in later years, Ms. Means moved to Winston-Salem, N.C. to reside with her daughter. As her health continued to decline, she later resided at Springwood Nursing Home. While in Winston-Salem, Ms. Means attended St. Stephens Baptist Church as her health permitted her to do so. She leaves to cherish her loving memories one daughter, Marie Robinson and husband, T.C. and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Ms. Means can be viewed on Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Beasley's Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Ms. Means will be funeralized on Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at Seigle Ave. Church of Christ in Charlotte, N.C. Burial will follow at York Memorial Cemetery in Charlotte, N.C. Beasley's Triad Funeral of Winston-Salem, N.C. are in charge of services and arrangements.
SAYERS
Mrs. Virginia West Sayers, 87, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at the Oaks at Forsyth. Mrs. Sayers was born October 17, 1911 in Dustin, Okla. to Howard Martin and Lillie Cutright West. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Winston-Salem and was a volunteer at Arbor Acres for 13 years. Mrs. Sayers was preceded in death by her husband, Clay A. Sayers. Surviving are a daughter, Dee McCandlish, of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, David L. Brown, of Maineville, Ohio; three grandsons, John McCandlish of Winston-Salem, David Allen Brown and wife, Vicki, of Bowling Green, Ky., and Greg Brown and wife, Anita, of Williamsburg, Ky.; two granddaughters, Patti Baker and husband, John, of Pleasant Plain, Ohio and Angie Gelly and husband, Bryant, of University Height, Ohio; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Lillian ''Tillie'' Davis, of Sarasota, Fla.; two nieces; and two nephews. A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by Dr. David Burr and Rev. Jeff White. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. SIZEMORE
DOBSON -- Mrs. Elsie Marie Bledsoe Sizemore, 65, of Rt. 2, Dobson, died on Monday, October 4, 1999 after a short illness. She was born on May 8, 1934 to the late Rev. Henderson Bledsoe and Ida Brindle Bledsoe. She was a membr of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, was retired from Central Care Rest Home in Mt. Airy, and was a member of the Board of Directors of YVEDDI for over 20 years. Surviving are her husband, John Sizemore of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Pastor Buddy and Teresa Sizemore of Valdese, N.C. and Keith and Deanna Sizemore of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, David Sizemore, kaitlin Sizemore, and Kaleb Sizemore; two sisters, Dorothy Pardue of Siloam and Linda Cooke of Jonesville; and by two brothers, Bill Bledsoe of Kernersville and Marvin Bledsoe of Siloam. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with burial in the church cememtery. The family will receive friends at Davis & Son Funeral Home in Dobson on Tuesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times the home of her sister, Dorothy Pardue, 163 Quaker Church Rd., Siloam. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Davis & Son Funeral Home of Dobson will be serving the Sizemore family.
SMITH
EAST BEND -- Mr. Taft Leak Smith, 90, of 2641 Bloomtown Road, died Sunday, October 3, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Yadkin County on November 2, 1908 to George Wesley and Mary Daisy Brann Smith, Sr. Mr. Smith was a member of Enon Baptist Church. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company on November 30, 1973 after 45 years of service. Mr. Smith was a past member of the Woodman of the World. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Viola Hutchens, Gert Hutchens, and Treva Smith; by two brothers, Benbow Smith and Robah Smith; and by an infant son, George Ellis Smith. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Elva Conrad Smith of the home; five children, Thomas L. (Betty) Smith of Winston-Salem, Willie (Roger) Hoots and Libby (Chuck) Fiero both of Yadkinville, Odell (Rose) Smith of East Bend, and Douglas (Linda) Smith of Fall Creek; one brother, George W. Smith, Jr. of East Bend; ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at 2:30 at the Enon Baptist Church by the Rev. Kent Ingrum and Rev. Roy Young. The body will be placed in the church at 2:00 to lie instate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 Tuesday evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Enon Baptist Church, 6321 E. SPEAKS
Mr. Phillip Lynn Speaks, 53, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday evening, October 2, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born February 21, 1946 in Forsyth County to Howard G. and Avelene Tise Speaks. Mr. Speaks was a graduate of High Point College and a past employee of the High Point Enterprise. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Speaks was preceded in death by a brother, Donald G. Speaks. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Betty Lou Pass and husband, Rex of Clemmons; and a brother, Jerry W. Speaks and wife, Frankie of Winston-Salem. A Memorial Service will be held at Hayworth-Miller Chapel on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Guy Hipp officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. SULLIVAN
Mr. Brian Carlton Sullivan, 23, of 1004 Woodlark Drive, Greensboro, N.C., passed away on Saturday, October 2, 1999 at the Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, N.C. He was born on June 28, 1976 to Thomas Lee Sullivan and Patricia W. Sullivan. He attended Smith High and Guilford Technical Community College and was the owner of Brian's Carwash and Detailing Service. Brian leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Patricia W. Sullivan of Winston-Salem; his father Thomas Lee Sullivan and wife, Sue of Greensboro; two brothers, Thomas Lee Sullivan, Jr. of Greensboro and Derrick Jordan of San Diego, California; two grandmothers, Sarah Wiseman of Mocksville and Nellie Sullivan of Winston-Salem; aunts, Lena M. Richmond, Immogene S. Bray, and Gloria (Wendell) Brown all of Winston-Salem, and Nancy (Jerry) Lane of Mableton, Ga.; two uncles, Wayne Lyons of Farmington, N.C. and Rudolph (Lois) Sullivan of Winston-Salem; two devoted friends, Travis Rousseau and KiKi Manning; cousins; and other relatives friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with Brother Julius Greene officiating. Mr. Leonard Ray Taylor, 74, of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, died Sunday, October 3, 1999. He was born March 5, 1925 in Forsyth County to the late William Franklin Taylor and Arrie Ann Landreth Taylor. He was a retired supervisor at Adams Mills Hosiery with 40 years service. Mr. Taylor was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Hatchell Taylor; three daughters, Rebecca (Jim) Long of Kernersville, Kimberly Masten of Mooresville, and Dawn Taylor of Carrboro; two sisters, Pearl Walker of Reidsville and Edna Lawson of Kernersville; and three grandchildren, Brandon Long, Alex Masten, and Rush Masten. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Union Grove Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Louis Hill. Burial will be in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. MT. AIRY -- Mrs. Mary Viola Wagoner Badgett, age 91, of 318 Scott Bunker Rd., Mt. Airy, widow of Herman Wesley Badgett, passed away at Surry Community Nursing Home on Sunday, October 3, 1999. Mrs. Badgett was born in Surry County, the daughter of the late Ray Wagoner and Lula Dunman Wagoner, was retired from Renfro Corporation, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and R.J. Hardy, of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren, Richard James Hardy and Shelia Renee Hardy, both of Mt. Airy; one great grandchild, Jessica Lynne Hardy, of Mt. Airy; one sister, Pauline Mosley, of Mt. Airy; and one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Myrtle Wagoner, of Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Randy Edwards, with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. BLAIR
NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mr. Richard Henry ''Dickie'' Blair, age 55, of Townsend Street, North Wilkesboro, died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Steve Snipes officiating. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall following the service. Mr. Blair was born September 12, 1944 in Iredell County to Frank P. and Florine Estee Forester Blair, Jr. He worked for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and was a member of North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his fiancee, Becky Pennell, of Wilkesboro; one brother, James D. Blair, of North Wilkesboro; three nephews, Alex Blair, of Wilkesboro, Andrew Blair, of Martin, Tenn., and Tommy Blair, of Anchorage, Alaska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wilkesboro Presbyterian Chapel, 409 Lake Forest Drive, Wilkesboro, N.C. 28697. BROWN
Elizabeth Shaw Brown, devoted wife of William M. Brown for 62 years, died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Her family was the love of her life. Her influence and compassion will be greatly missed by her adoring family. Her two daughters and sons-in-law are Shirley and Conrad Wilson, of Welcome, and Peggy and Jerry Webb, of Gastonia. They gave her three wonderful granddaughters, Jackie Draughn and husband, Jimmy, of Albuquerque, N.M, Amy Moore and husband, Mark, of Asheville, N.C., and Emily Webb, of Gastonia.; and four great grandchildren. Her two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Margaret Shaw and Jimmy and Daphine, Shaw live in Rex, N.C., her birthplace. Her sister and brother-in-law, Laura Kate and ''Smoky'' Garvin, live in Fayetteville. Two sisters-in-law are Mildred Bean, of Fayetteville and Lena Brown, of Clemmons. Her greatest love was for her Lord Jesus Christ, to whom she had made a pro fession of faith as a young girl in Rex, N.C. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for 41 years. Her compassion, gen erosity, and unselfishness made her the best wife, mother, grandmother, great grand mother, and sister that man kind has ever seen. She will be greatly missed, but her family is assured they will once again be together. She loved helping people. This made her a great employee of 21 years at Sears Roebuck and Co. She was an excellent seamstress and cook and took great pride in her home. From her home, she baked for the sick, made quilts and handmade items for her family and friends. She has been made complete and per fect in her heavenly home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103 or Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3627 Konnoak Drive. There will be a graveside service 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 5 at Parklawn Cemetery. The Rev.
