SMITH
Mrs. Alice Noah Smith, 66, of Winston-Salem, died at the Forsyth Medical Center on Monday evening, November 29, 1999 following a brief period of declining health. A native of Surry County, she was born on December 18, 1932 to Vester Lee and Emma Goins Noah. Mrs. Smith was retired from Sara Lee Hosiery after more than forty years of service and was a member of Old Time Baptist Church in King, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Essie Marshall in 1990 ; and three brothers, Roy Noah in 1994, Barney Noah in 1993, and Herbert Noah in 1984. Surviving Mrs. Smith is her husband of 46 years, George Vernon Smith of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Dina S. Collins and husband, Tony of Mocksville; two grandchildren, Faith and Joshua Collins; two sisters, Bessie Bennett and husband, Alfred of Winston-Salem and Frances Randall and husband, Leo of Walkertown; two brothers, James Noah and wife, Shirley of Winston-Salem and Matthew Noah and wife, Mary Ann of Stanleyville; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A funeral service will be conducted in the Hayworth-Miller, Rural Hall Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 3, 1999. The service will be conducted by Bro. Tommy Holder. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, N.C. The family will be at Hayworth-Miller, Rural Hall Chapel from 7-9 p.m. this evening to receive friends and relatives. VALENTINE
Mr. Paul Eugene Valentine, 84, of Reidsville Rd., Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, November 29, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Valentine was born April 22, 1915 to James Henry and Bertie Geneva Hauerton Valentine. He was a former employee of A.T.&T. having retired in 1977. He is survived by two sons, Charles Eugene Valentine of Raleigh and James Paul Valentine and his wife, Donna of Forest, Va.; two daughters, Patricia V. McMullen and her husband, Dan of Winston-Salem and Betty V. Joyce and her husband, Bobby of Belews Creek; seven grandchildren, Darrell and Michael Joyce, Kimberly Clark, David and Chad Valentine, and Cindy and Jeff Valentine; nine great-grandchildren, Micah Joyce, Derrick and Chelsea Clark, Ryan and Ashley Terry, Joseph, Michael, and Andrew Valentine, and Ethan Valentine; three brothers, Edd Valentine, Hubert Valentine, and Herman Valentine; and one sister, Ann Williams. The funeral will be held Thursday, December 2, 1999 in the Chapel of Family Funeral Care at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Frank Shumate will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Kate B. WARD
Mrs. Pauline Neal Ward, 72, of Kernersville, N.C., died Wednesday, December 1, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born December 11, 1926 in Forsyth County to Mack Duff and Mary Sue Wilson Neal. Mrs. Ward was a member of Manna Baptist Church. She loved baseball and her grandchildren, but foremost above all, Jesus. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Carl William Ward. Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Sue Ward of the home, Mrs. Wendy Renee Ward Harvey and husband, Jeff, and Mrs. Frances Willene Riddle and husband, Don all of Winston-Salem; one son, Carl Wayne Ward and wife, Pat of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James Curtis Neal of Winston-Salem; and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Watson of Kenley, N.C. and Mrs. Emma Sue Sutton of Fayetteville. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Robert Motsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
BLAKENEY
Mr. France L. ''Rob'' Blakeney, 64, of 1328 E. 37th Ave., Spokane, Wash., passed in that city on Saturday, August 28, 1999. He was born April 12, 1935 to Henry and Nellie Blakeney. He was retired from U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his wife, Leona; a daughter, Sharon (Perry) Fears; a granddaughter, Ti-Shawn all of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Molene B. (Waymon) Jones of Winston-Salem and Nellie (Ralph) Home of Bronx, N.Y.; a devoted nephew, Bryan Jones; two sisters-in-law; and other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. BRAGG
Mr. Clarence Edgar Bragg, Jr., 64, of Winston-Salem, died Tuesday, August 31, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Bragg was born on October 7, 1934 in Forsyth County a son of the late Clarence E., Sr. and Bessie Barber Bragg. He was retired from Hooker Furniture Co. and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol D. Bragg of the home; one daughter, Deborah Alfonso (Jose) of Stokesdale; three grandchildren, Heather and Able Martinez and Juan Torres; one brother, David Matherly (Lena) of Rural Hall; and one sister, Louise Smith of Winston-Salem. He was always a loving husband and father to his family. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 1999 in the Chapel of Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Roger Cranfill officiating. Inurnment will follow in the cemetery. There is no stated visitation. Services for the Bragg family are being provided by Foster Funeral Home.
BREWER
Miss Dorothy Allegra Brewer, 86, of Williamsburg Rd., died August 31, 1999 at Willowbrook Heath Center in Yadkinville, N.C. She was born on April 5, 1913 in Forsyth County to John H. and Nancy Hartley Brewer. Miss Brewer was a charter member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She retired from the Federal Government after 35 years of service. Miss Brewer graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and attended Salem College where she studied piano. Surviving are nephews, Larry Voss and Royce E. Brewer; nieces Elizabeth Pipkin and Nancy Sheffield and several great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 1999 at Salem Cemetery with Rev. Bill Garrard officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. PFAFFTOWN -- Mrs. Alta Long Brown, 76, of 5126 Whitman Road, died Tuesday, August 31, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born on August 22, 1999 in Forsyth County to Ammon Ralph and Mamie Watts Long. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Abraham Brown; three brothers, Paul Long, Melvin Long, and Kelly Long; and by a sister, Treva Norman. She is survived by two sons, Harold James (Joan) Brown and Jerry Michael (Sally) Brown both of Pfafftown; three sisters, Lois Poplin of Ronda, N.C., Milna Poindexter, and Erlene Whitley both of Pfafftown; and four grandchildren, Kristen Brown, Keri Brown, Liza Brown, and Zack Brown all of Pfafftown. A private graveside service will be conducted Thursday, September 2, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Steven McCutchan. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. CARTER
PFAFFTOWN -- Mrs. Nettie Billings Carter, 77, of 3631 Grandview Club Road, Pfafftown, died Tuesday, August 31, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born May 26, 1922 in Forsyth County to Henry and Lillie Dalton Billings. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her first husband, Royce Addison Crim and her second husband, E. Robert Carter, Jr. She spent much of her life being a loving wife, mother, a creative homemaker, and selfless volunteer. She retired in 1987 from Medical Park Hospital after nine years service. Surviving are three daughters, Maxine (Julius) Perdue, Peri Crim, and Kaye J. Crim all of Pfafftown; a grandson, James Sanders; a great-grandson, Steven Sanders both of Bahrain; three sisters, Frances Allgood, Flora Moore, and Bettie Foster; and a brother, Henry Billings. A private memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel by Dr. Henry May. Entombment will follow. Mrs. Carter's daughters and son-in-law will receive family members and close friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at her home. CLARK
Mr. James Calvin Clark, 72, of 928 Cloister Drive, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 1999 at the Forsyth Medical Center following a period of illness. He was a native of Pinnacle, N.C., born on March 13, 1927, the son of Mary Maggie Dodd Howell and the late Charles Clark. He resided in Bridgeport, Conn. for many years where he was employed with White Consolidated Company and returned to Winston-Salem, N.C. in 1983. He was preceded in death by a brother, Nathaniel Clark. He is survived by his wife, Marlene James Clark of the home; two sons, Michael Hancock and James E. Clark both of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Cheryl H. Clark Thompson of Providence, R.I. and Carolyn Clark Lewis (Cecil) of Bridgeport, Conn.; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his mother, Mary Maggie Dodd Howell of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother, Charles William Clark of Harrisburg, Pa.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 2, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Coleman officiating. RINER, VIRGINIA -- Edith Alice Duncan Cox, 79, of Riner, Virginia, died Monday, August 30, 1999. She was the mother of Blanche Pearsall and Barbara Lemmon of Winston-Salem, N.C. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in Indian Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
