Homegoing services for Mr. Kevin Terrance Hodges, of 4211 Oakridge Dr., will be held on Thursday, September 2, 1999 at 2 p.m. from New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. Bernard Pate will officiate and Eulogy will be given by Rev. S.L. Hodges. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m at the church. The family may be contacted and funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence. Arrangements entrusted to and services will be conducted by Gilmore Funeral Directors.
JACKSON
''I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth.'' The ''time'' revealed by the wisdom of Solomon (Ecclesiastic 3:11). To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven...was realized on August 29, 1999 when Thomas Jackson exchanged life on earth for one of eternal rest. Mr. Jackson was born July 13, 1919 in Anson County to the late Mr. Milton Cason, Sr. and Mrs. Cleaver Jackson Robinson. His early life was spent in Anson County. He was a Shoe Repairman by trade. He served in the U.S. Army in 1942 with honor and loyalty. He came to Winston-Salem and was self-employed as a Shoe Repairman for many years, then later worked and retired from the Fairchild Industry. Mr. Jackson had a loving wife, Emmer Horne Jackson and two sons, Thomas, Jr. and Jefferie who preceded him in death. Although his presence will be sadly missed, we who are bound by treasured ties of affection, respect, and devotion send forth this final tribute, giving thanks to God for allowing us to be the beneficiaries of his love and reassuring smile. As we acclaim the worth of a life faithfully lived, we who share fond memories are four sons, James Jackson (Yvonne), Charles Jackson (Vernola), Johnnie Jackson (Kathy) of Winston-Salem and Frederick Jackson of Miami, Florida; two brothers, Milton Cason, Jr. and Jack Cason of Bridge Port, Connecticut; two brothers-in-law, Russell Horne, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa. and James Horne of Greensboro, N.C.; and three sisters-in-law, Wincey Matthews of Port Arthur, Texas, Edith Horne of Philadelphia, Pa., and Margaret Cason of Winston-Salem, N.C. He was blessed with four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 2, 1999 at 1 p.m. from Frances S. and Jerry C. Gilmore, Jr., Memorial Chapel where interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. in the Chapel. The family may be contacted and funeral cortege will assemble and leave from 1825 Adare Dr., Clemmons, N.C.
JOYCE
Mrs. Dorothy Azalee Brown Joyce, died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born on April 16, 1914 in Salem to John and Sarah Brown and was a life long resident of Winston-Salem. The passions of her life were her family, her home and garden, and her church. She was a member of Home Moravian Church where she was an active member of the Women's Fellowship as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Morris Joyce; brothers, Artie, Ernest, Luke, and Pete Brown; and her sisters, Lula Sink and Edna Fulp. Her three children and spouses survive: Fred Morris Joyce, Jr. and wife, Ava, Carolyn Joyce Cheek and husband, Darrell, and Katherine Joyce Hodges. Also surviving are her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Catherine Brown and J.T. Spangler; brother, Jack Brown and wife, Ann; sisters-in-law, Josephine Brown, Hilda Brown, and Eva Joyce Hampton and husband, Gaither. She had seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews and friends, many of whom knew her as Mama Dot. A graveside service will be conducted at God's Acre on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Lehoma B. Goode, with a reception following in the Ladies' Parlor of Home Moravian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Alzheimer's/Adult Day Health Center of Senior Services, Inc. at 836 Oak Street, Suite 320, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27107 for Participant Services. The family wishes to commend the staff of The Oaks at Forsyth for the exemplary care given to Mrs. Joyce and for the support and concern for her family during her extended illness.

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- On August 30, 1999, Samuel Frank Maham was called to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was the precious infant son of Michael and Jennifer Maham and the beloved grandson of Dallas and Helene Maham of Austin, and Otis and Phyllis Sisk of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, Sam's family suggests supporting the March of Dimes Foundation, 55 North I.H.35, Austin, Texas, 78702. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 1999 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin with Dr. Jim Singleton officiating. MARTIN
TRINITY -- John C. ''Buck'' Martin, 72, of 4134 Fairwood Dr., died Monday, August 30, 1999 at 11:42 p.m. in High Point Regional Hospital. He was born April 17, 1927 in Forsyth County a son of John Melvin and Bertha Poindexter Martin. He was retired and had worked at Walker Upholstery. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. He was married to Betty Jean Giles who preceded him in death January 7, 1997. Surviving are four daughters, Ms. Connie Miles of Trinity, Ms. Debra Garcia of Thomasville, Ms. Joyce Magard of King, and Ms. Karen Martin of California; five sons, Richard David Freeman of Linwood, Mark Martin of Thomasville, Steve Martin of California, and Kenneth and J.C. Martin of King; one sister, Mrs. Bernice Wynn of Winston-Salem; three nieces and one nephew; fifteen grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He was also preceded in death by one son, Ronald Martin. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Family Funeral Care-Chapel by the Rev. John Bishop. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will remain at the Family Funeral Care, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville and the family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m.
MILLS
Mr. Judson ''Butch'' Mills, Jr., son of the late Judson and Ernestine Mills was born on June 17, 1946 in Winston-Salem, N.C. He passed from this life into eternal rest at his home on August 29, 1999. He attended school in New York City and Rutledge College of Winston-Salem, graduating from Atkins High School. He leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Darlene Duncan Mills; three daughters, Fredericka ''Ebony'', Krystal, and Colette Mills; a loving grandmother, Mrs. Marie Knox with whom he lived; a sister, Brenda Granderson; a devoted mother-in-law, Mrs. Pearlie Duncan; and a host of cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, September 3, at Gilmore's Funeral Home. Intermet will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Thursday at Gilmore's Funeral Home.
MORRIS
Mrs. Myrtle Ashworth Morris, 100, died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. The daughter of Dr. Walter Clark Ashworth and Birdie Sapp Ashworth, she was born on September 27, 19898 in Kernersville, N.C. Her childhood was spent in Greensboro, N.C. She was educated in the Greensboro public schools, Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C., and Greensboro College. Mrs. Morris was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, a life member of W.S.C.S. and was active in the Church President's Ladies Aid Society at Old Centenary Church. She was a life member of the United Methodist Women, president twice of Susannah Wesley Fellowship Class, Circle leader and secretary several times. She also volunteered as staff assistant with the Red Cross during World War II. In addition, she was a member of the Camp Betty Hasting Committee, past member of the General Joseph Winston Chapter of D.A.R., and a member of the Woman's Reading Club. On October 9, 1919 she married Frank Brown Morris, who died in 1984. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. William H. Petree of Winston-Salem, Mrs. John C. Houbolt of Williamsburg, Va., and Mrs. W. Perrin Steele of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, William H. Petree Jr. and Mrs. Frank Murphy both of Winston-Salem, Mrs. P. Tucker Withington of Plymouth, Mass., Mrs. Matthew G. Hayes of St. Albans, Vermont, Mrs. Carl D. Winter of Morristown, New Jersey, John W. Gainey III, and Frank H. Gainey both of Morehead City, N.C.; fourteen great-grandchildren, William H. (Chip) Petree III, Stacy Petree Davis, Mary Elizabeth Murphy, William F. Murphy, James Patrick Murphy, Lauren Cornelia Withington, Whitney Withington, Ryan Winter, Carla Winter, Kristin Ashworth Gainey, Ashley Elizabeth Gainey, Brooke Hodges Gainey, Alicia Gainey, and Frank Holland Gainey, Jr.; and one great-great-grandchild, Wesley Hurst Davis. A private graveside service will be conducted at Salem Cemetery Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Roland Barnhardt. A memorial service will be held at the Triad United Methodist Home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Dr. Lee Tuttle and Rev. Roland Barnhardt. The family will receive friends at the Home following the memorial service. AURORA, Ill. -- Mrs. Phyllis F. O'Malley, 67, briefly of Aurora Ill., died Sunday August 29, 1999 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Ill. She was born May 24, 1932 in Hoopeston, Ill. Mrs. O'Malley was raised in the Midwest. She settled in North Carolina after having lived in Florida and Kansas. Mrs. O'Malley spent the last 2 years teaching English in Harbin, China. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is survived by two children; Rev. Kevin (Charlene) O'Malley of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Erin O. (Bruce) Etheridge of Aurora, Ill. Four grandchildren; Megan O'Malley of Aberdeen, S.D., Greg, Steven and Scott Etheridge of Aurora, Ill. Her mother, Gwendolyn Fowler of West Palm Beach, Fla. A sister, Beverly (James) Zilles of Oneida, Wisconsin. Numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. O'Malley was preceded in death by her husband Terrence O'Malley in 1970, also by her father Michael Fowler. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. O'Malley's name may be made to the charity of donor's choice. PARDUE
Mr. Robert (Bobby) E. Pardue, Jr., 48, of Winston-Salem, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 27, 1999. Mr. Pardue was born June 9, 1951 in Atlanta, Ga. to Robert E. Pardue, Sr. and Eleanor Darnell Pardue. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his mother; one sister, Mrs. Diane Greiss and her husband, Mr. Frank Giess III and a niece, Briana Polly. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the home of his mother at 1824 Stonewood Dr. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. PARDUE
HAMPTONVILLE -- Mr. Robert ''Bob'' Cleveland Pardue, Jr., 63, of Old US 421 Hwy., passed away Monday, August 30, 1999 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1935 in Wilkes County to the late Robert Cleveland, Sr. and Dare Myers Pardue. Mr. Pardue was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, entered the United States Naval Training in San Diego, Ca. Company #246, and served on the U.S.S. Shangri-La with Air Task Group Three. He was a retired mechanic with the Earth Grain Bakeries and was a member of Union Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Josephine ''Jo'' Elledge Pardue of the home; two sons, Chris (Anita) Pardue and LeHew (Debbie) Pardue all of Hamptonville; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Dylan, Whitney, Ryan, and Ethan Pardue; two brothers, Phola Pardue and Kermit Pardue both of Hamptonville; five sisters, Bonnie Clayton, Fuchsia Pardue, and Virginia Walker all of Hamptonville, Nada Coleman of Greensboro, and Ann Woodruff of Elkin. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church by Rev. Kenny Pardue, Rev. Don Blevins, and Rev. Russ Nixon. He will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Union Baptist Church. Mr. Pardue will be taken to the church at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday where he will remain until the funeral hour.
