WELBORN
ROARING RIVER -- Mrs. Kathleen Mathis Welborn, 78, widow of Berlie Welborn, of East Highway 421, Roaring River, died Friday, November 12 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Welborn was born July 19, 1921 in Wilkes County to Otha and Pearl Mathis Mathis. She was a member of Cranberry Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Ward Welborn. Surviving are one brother, Jeff Mathis, of McLeansville; and a daughter-in-law, Rebecca B. Welborn, of North Wilkesboro. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 15 at Cranberry Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Jackson officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service, 180 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight (Sunday). WALKER
Margie McGee Walker, 71, of Vance Rd., died Sunday, December 12, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 1, 1928 in Kernersville to William ''Bill'' and Eva Hull Fulp. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, McGee, on September 20, 1982. Surviving are two sons, Gregory McGee and wife, Debbi, of Kernersville and Keith McGee and wife, Norma, of Pfafftown; one daughter, Julie Mabe and husband, Michael, of Kernersville; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be held Tuesday, December 14, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Family Funeral Care. Dr. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Steve Roberson will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

WILLIS, Va. -- Richard Alvin Wikle, 77, joined is beloved wife, Mary, in Heaven on Saturday, December 11, 1999. He was born May 21, 1922 in Swain Co., N.C. to the late Jacob Richard Wikle and Della Slagle Wikle. He retired from Dillard Paper Co. with 34 years of service. Alvin was a member of Calvary Bible Church of Dugspur, Va. and prior member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Kernersville, N.C. Surviving are son, Richard Wayne Wikle and wife, Claudene, of Reidsville; daughters, Joan Beard and husband, Ron, of Aberdeen, N.C. and Anna McBryde, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two adopted children, Danny and June Sutphin, of Willis, Va.; one sister, Violet Brintnall and husband, Phil, of Bryson City, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Sarah Wikle, of Winston-Salem; six loving granchildren, Shannon Sudderth and husband, Chip, Kerri Wikle, Spencer Squier, Austin Beard, Rusty McBryde and wife, April, and Jaret McBryde; and four step grandchildren, Tommy, Shelia, Elana and ''Little'' Tommy. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec . 14, 1999 at Fellowship Baptist Church. Pastor Charles Snider, Pastor Shelby Harbour, and Rev. Al Pinkerton will officiate. Mrs. Alma Mozelle Parks, 81, of 2350 W. Clemmonsville Rd., Winston-Salem, died Thursday, December 9, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born March 2, 1918 in Davie Co. to the late Thomas Edward and Maudie Beachum McDaniel. She was a loving mother and wife. She was a devoted homemaker and was of strong Christian faith. She was a lifelong member of Mock's United Methodist Church in Mocksville. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hubert Marion Parks; and her first-born daughter, Janice Marie Parks. Surviving are three daughters, Sallie Sue O'Dell and husband, Garland, of Winston-Salem, Linda F. Parks, of Winston-Salem, and Sylvia Dianne Parks, of the home; two sons, Harvey R. Parks and wife, Pauline, of Winston-Salem and Wesley R. Parks and wife, Teresa L., of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters, Sherri Lynch and husband, Scott, of Raleigh and Debbie Clodfelter and husband, Steve, of Winston-Salem; grandson, Gary O'Dell and wife, Tammy, of Winston-Salem; two great granddaughters, Brittany O'Dell and Heather O'Dell, both of Winston-Salem; and five sisters, Pearle Mae Jarvis, Bonnie Summers, Ivanell Wall, Lois Long, and Fallie Sidden. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 13, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Jennings O'Neil and Rev. Timothy Gwynn officiating. NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mr. Floyd Parks, Sr., age 85, of North Wilkesboro, died Friday, December 10 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mr. Parks was born May 24, 1914 in Wilkes County to Hamp and Sarah Parks. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are one son, Rev. Floyd Parks, Jr., of North Wilkesboro; one daughter, Esther Parks, of Roaring River; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 26 great, great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 13 at Union Grove Baptist Church, with The Rev. Floyd Parks, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00-11:00 prior to the funeral. Miller Funeral Service of North Wilkesboro is in charge of arrangements.
POWELL
CLEMMONS -- Mr. William Barney Powell, 76, of Clemmons, N.C., died Friday, December 10, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Powell was born April 23, 1923 in Burke County, N.C. to Garland and Elsie Abee Powell. Mr. Powell was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and was a retired auto mechanic for Ford Motor Corp. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Quma Lane Powell; a son, Stevie Powell; and three sisters, Louise Miller, Wilma Gooden, and Mazie Bridges. Surviving are his wife, Jean Wishon Smith, of the home; four stepchildren, Jerry Smith, of Kernersville, N.C., Craig Smith, of Pfafftown, N.C., Alan Smith, of Colorado, and Marcia Teague, of Clemmons, N.C.; and two brothers, Marshall Powell, of Valdese, N.C. and Willard Powell, of Morganton, N.C. SMYTHE
Eleanor Soud Smythe, 67, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla. and Bristol, Tenn., died December 7, 1999 in Cleveland, Ohio, where she recently moved to be near family. She was a graduate of Landon High School in Jacksonville and Sullins College in Bristol. Throughout her life, Eleanor's sense of humor in the face of adversity and her strong Christian faith were an inspiration to those who knew her. She is survived by her mother, Margaret G. Soud, of Jacksonville; a son, Jules W. Smythe, Jr., of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Preston and Scott Beck and grandsons, Eric and Geoffrey Beck, of Novelty, Ohio; brothers, Rev. Eugene Soud, of Newport News, Va., Dr. Robert S. Soud, and Dr. Gary G. Soud, of Jacksonville; a sister, Jacquelyn Deckel, of W. Springfield, Va.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service in celebration of Eleanor's life was held Saturday, December 11, 1999 at 3 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a church or charity of choice.
WHITE
Mr. Gene William (Bill) White, 73, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, December 11, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. White was born August 22, 1923 in Forsyth County to John William and Mecie Simpson White. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and was retired from Sara Lee Hosiery, with 45 years service. Mr. White was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Walker and Mary Ruth Harrison. Surviving are his wife, Gloria Smith White, of the home; three daughters, Kristie Evans, of Raleigh, Brenda Cook, of Gastonia, and Sherree Sorrell, of Waynesville; two stepchildren, Michael Haynes, of Lewisville and Lisa Brown, of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, Tina, Tori, Katie, Brie, Adam, Jason, and Jesse; two brothers, Wade White, of Yadkinville and Paul White of Winston-Salem; and four sisters, Gladys Marshall, of Winston-Salem, Pauline Ard, of Winter Haven, Fla., and Carol Bates and JoAnn Harkey, both of Winston-Salem. BURLINGTON -- Mrs. Sadie Dennis Ward, 79, formerly of Hanover Road, Burlington, died Sunday, January 23, 2000 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a six week illness. She was born in Clarendon County, S.C. to the late Horace and Maggie Dennis Ridgeway. She was a homemaker and a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph ''Joe'' Ward who died in 1979 and two brothers, Edward Dennis and Leo Ridgeway. A graveside service will be at Pine Hill Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2000 with Rev. Bob Stephenson, Associate Pastor at Glen Hope Baptist Church officiating. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Sue McGuire of Burlington; one son, W. Dennis Ward of Clemmons, N.C.; three grandchildren; five sisters, Ms. Rounette Lacewell of Summerton, S.C., Mrs. Mary Garrius of Walterboro, S.C., Mrs. Dorothy Rucker of Beaufort, S.C., Ms. Myrtle Moore of Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Carolyn Minner of Marrieta, Ga.; and two brothers, Cleveland Ridgeway and James Ridgeway both of Manning, S.C. Mrs. Ward will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until taken to the cemetery for the service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home. The family will be at the daughters home, Mrs. Mary Sue McGuire, 1915 Keogh Street, Burlington.

Mr. Roy Lee White, 64, of Winston-Salem, died Sunday, January 23, 2000 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 1, 1935 in Lexington, Ky. to Walter Lee and Edna Humphrey White. Mr. White attended Christ Temple. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky White. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Doris Hamby White of the home; a daughter, Cynthia White; two sons, Timmy White and Tommy White all of Ocala, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jason White, Kelly Jo White, and Little Jr. White; a sister, Bessie White of Lexington, Ky.; a very special friend, Mary Kearce of Ocala, Fla.; and five step-children, Lennie, Dollie, Rickey, Donnie, and Mitzi. A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Mike Lane officiating.
