SUMMERFIELD, N.C. -- Frances H. Nelson, 82, of 4000 Oak Ridge Road, Summerfield, N.C., died Friday, November 12, 1999 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. She was born February 28, 1917 the daughter of Henry A. and Myrtle Smith Highfill. Surviving is one sister, Becky Bolton of Greensboro; two brothers, Norman Highfill and Eugene Highfill both of Winston-Salem; and several nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Summerfield First Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 13, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home in Madison.
PATTERSON
BRADENTON, FLORIDA -- Mr. J.G. (Pat) Patterson, 72, of Bradenton, Florida, died Monday, November 8, 1999 at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida. Mr. Patterson was born in Surry County, August 5, 1927 to Jasper and Emma Jones Patterson. He was a retired General Manager for various car dealerships in the Winston-Salem area and also a member of the Jonestown Friends Church in Winston-Salem, N.C. Surviving are one daughter, Victoria Lynn Bradsher of Oxford, N.C.; one son, Terry Graham Patterson of Talbott, Tenn.; three grandchildren; four sisters, Betty Masten of Winston-Salem, N.C., Evelyn Snow of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Frances Hamel of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Polly Johnson of Mt. Airy, N.C.; and one brother, Glenn Patterson of High Point, N.C. A graveside service for Mr. Patterson will be conducted Friday afternoon, November 12, 1999 at 2:30 p.m. at the Pine Hill Friends Church Cemetery by the Rev. Victor Murchison. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. The At-Need Services for the Patterson family are being provided by the Cox-Needham Funeral Home and Chapel in Pilot Mountain, N.C.
REID
Mrs. Mary Joyner Grubbs Reid, 74, passed away Friday, November 12, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born October 27, 1925 in Winston-Salem to Robert Lee and Ada Collins Joyner. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edgar J. Reid; and four brothers, R.L. Joyner, Jr., Lorton Joyner, Raymond Joyner, and Kelly Ray Joyner. Mrs. Reid lived all of her life in Forsyth County, was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. She is survived by he daughter, Kristine Joyner Reid; a special friends, Wallace Evans; five sisters, Ruby McGee of Winston-Salem, Clorinda Renegar of Rural Hall, Zerilda Amos of Walkertown, Roberta Grantham, and Arlene Lowe of Winston-Salem; and three brothers, William Joyner of Mocksville, Bobby Joyner of Walkertown, and Ovilla Joyner of Tobaccoville. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 1999 at Woodland Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Gammons and Rev. Zeno Groce. Mrs. Reid will lie instate for 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 1999 at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Funeral Home. ROBERTSON
Mr. Wayne Edwin Robertson, 71, of Winston-Salem, died Friday morning at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following several years of declining health. He was born on May 14, 1928 in Winston-Salem to Edwin R. Robertson and Jeanette Rupard Robertson. He served with the U.S. Army following World War II. After attending Southern School of Printing in Nashville, he went to work on the Danbury Reporter. For thirty-one years, Mr. Robertson worked for the Winston-Salem Journal, retiring in 1990 as the Night Production Manager. He loved the coast, fishing, hunting, and raising beagles. He was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Tesh and a sister, Betty Hamby. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Briggs Robertson of the home; one son, Barry Robertson and wife, Jill of Clemmons; three daughters, Linda Fox and husband, Jim of Winston-Salem, Barbara Sturgill and husband, Tom of Winston-Salem, and Julie Williams and husband, Scott of Burlington; six grandchildren, Emery and Hunter Morefield, Joshua Robertson, Jenna, Krista, and Lisa Williams; one great-grandchild, Anna Morefield; one brother, Dewey S. Robertson and wife, Jean; and two sisters, Emma Lou Douthit and husband, W.A. and Sarah Ingram and husband, Thomas. A graveside service will be held at Pfafftown Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Chaplain Rennie Adcock. Mr. Robertson will lie instate at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Rd. ROTH
ELKIN -- Mrs. Roxie Bowen Roth, 98, widow of William T. Roth, of 136 Parkwood Place, died Thursday evening at her home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 1999 at First Baptist Church in Elkin by Rev. Joe Dell Rust. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Roth was born in Shoals, Surry Co., February 18, 1901 to Henry Harrison and Carrie Scott Bowen. She attended Surry Co. Schools and graduated from Mountain Park Academy. She moved to Elkin in 1940 where she was employed by Chatham Mfg. Co. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday School class for forty years and was the first woman Deacon. She was chairman of the Red Cross Bloodmobile in Elkin for ten years and served on the Surry Co. Red Cross Board for twenty years. She was a member of the Elkin Business Woman's Club, The Elkin Woman's Club, The Yadkin Valley Garden Club, Jonathan Hunt Chapter of the D.A.R., and the North Elkin Extension Club. Mrs. Roth was the first woman to be elected to the Surry Co. Board of Commissioners and served as Chairperson. She was the first woman to be appointed to the Board of Trustees of Surry Community College and served on the Board of Trustees of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Roth had served as vice chairperson of the Surry Co. Democratic Party. Roxie was an avid gardener, cook, and bridge player. Surviving are two nieces, Hazel Bottoms and Peggy Caruthers both of Greensboro; two nephews, Scott Bowen of Winston-Salem and Holman Flynn of Greensboro; one step-daughter, Louisa Shugart of Charlotte; and one step-son, Robert T. Roth of Gapland, Md. In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Elkin or to the Roxie Bowen Roth Scholarship Fund c/o Surry Community College Foundation, P.O. Box 304, Dobson, N.C. 27017. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday at Kennedy Funeral Home in Elkin.

STONEVILLE, N.C. -- Mrs. Frances Smith Trefzer, 81, of 121 Frontage Rd., Stoneville, N.C. 27048, died Thursday, November 11, 1999 at Britthaven of Madison. She was born November 25, 1917, was a homemaker, and a member of Madison United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Frederick Trefzer. Surviving is one sister, Haxel Smith Lester of Stoneville; nieces, Margaret Downs of Stoneville, Judy Whiting of Charlotte, Janice Bryan of South Port, and Kathy Vogel of Sanford, Fla.; a nephew, Mark Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and several great-nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Ray Funeral Home Chapel, Madison with burial in Trent Cemetery. WATSON
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Mr. Harvey Lee Watson, 77, of 102 Beaufort Street, Greenville, S.C. formerly of Charlotte and Winston-Salem, N.C., died Thursday, November 11, 1999 at St. Frances Hospital. Mr. Watson was born July 8, 1922 in Westfield, N.C. to Thomas Winston and Lula Goad Watson. He holds an Honorary Doctor of Law Degree from Indiana Christian University. He was Legal and Financial Advisor and founder of Consulting Development Service before retirement. Mr. Watson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was also a member of First Assembly of God. He was predeceased by his first wife, Vivian Flippin Watson. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Reeves Kennan Watson of the home; three daughters, Cecelia Perrell and Nancy Tate both of Greenville, S.C., and Rebecca Reed of Hendersonville, N.C.; one son, Philip Thomas Watson of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; six step-daughters, Pat Fowler, Linda Meredith, Joyce Connolly, Joan McManus, Debbie Anastas, and Judy Schwedtfeger; one sister, Hallie Hopkins of Meadows of Dan, Va.; and an adopted brother, Riley Goad of Fayetteville, N.C. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, November 14, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. at Asbury Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Wesley Flippin and Stu Epperson. LEXINGTON -- Mr. J. Ashburn Williams, 86 of 3912 Giles Road, Lexington, N.C., died Nov . 10, 1999 at Lexington Memorial Hospital, Lexington. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Primitive Baptist Church conducted by Elder John Draper, Elder Kemp Walker and Elder Eugene Bennett with burial in the Pine Primitive Church Cemetery. Mr. Williams will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. Mr. Williams was born Nov . 26, 1912 to Henry Alexander Williams and Mary Jane Owen Williams. He graduated High School in Tyro and was Class Valedictorian. Mr. Williams retired from Triangle Construction of Lexington as a Superintendent in 1975. Ashburn faithfully served his Lord as a Trustee, Deacon, Treasurer, Clerk, and as a member of the cemetery committee at Pine Primitive Baptist Church, where he was a member since 1940. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Jane Hayworth Williams on Aug . 30, 1988; two brothers, Hugh Alonzo ''Buck'' Williams and Henry Lee Williams and three sisters, Edith Koonts, Faye Wilson, and Polly Owens. he leaves a legacy of kindness, gentleness, and faith. The family will receive friends on Friday night from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home. EAST BEND -- Mr. Clifton Wilson Beane, Sr., 86, of 4124 Old Mill Road, died Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at his home. He was born in Yadkin County on December 5, 1912 to Roby and Ellen Douglas Beane. Mr. Beane was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruth Carter Beane of the home; two sons, C.W. (Vivian) Beane, Jr. of Tobaccoville and Jerry Beane of East Bend; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Beane of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Cathy (Samuel) Brown and Penny (Todd) Coram all of East Bend; two sisters, Bessie Ring and Edna Murphy both of East Bend; one brother, Claude Beane of East Bend; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, October 21, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. at the Shady Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Sarah Kalish and Rev. Bob Harris. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 to lie instate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
