PARKER
Mrs. Lula Grace Venable Parker, 83, of 628 Siloam Road, Mount Airy, widow of John Richard Parker, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Parker was born in Surry County on January 26, 1916, daughter of the late James E. and Gracie Mae Edmonds Venable. She was retired from Spencer's, Inc. of Mount Airy and was a member of the Little Mountain Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Gail Johnson of Mount Airy; one son, Rhonda Ray Parker of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by one sister, Zellar Irene Watson; and one brother, J.E. Venable. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 21, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the Little Mountain Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Billy Watson with burial in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie instate 30 minutes before the funeral service. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Gail Johnson, 330 East Poplar Street, Mount Airy.
SMITH
Mr. James Herman, 87, of Winston-Salem, died Monday, October 18, 1999 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was born March 20, 1912 in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Smith moved to Winston-Salem from Cleveland, Ohio in 1969. He retired as Vice Chairman of Thiele-Engdahl, Inc. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia Waller Smith; four children, William H. Smith and Wendy Parker of Richmond, Va., Ilene ''Wendy'' Brophy of Winston-Salem, Ilyse J. Smith of Raleigh, and Clark S. Smith and his wife, Sally of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Thomas D. Brophy, Jr. and Heather E. Brophy of Winston-Salem, and Claire and Sam Smith of Greenville; two great-grandchildren, Megan Davis Brophy and Joshua Brophy of Winston-Salem. Memorials may be made to Mt. TEAGUE
Mrs. Florence Bodenheimer Teague, 93, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Silas Creek Manor. Mrs. Teague was born July 6, 1906 in Forsyth County to George Luther and Alice Nading Bodenheimer. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church and also the Sunshine Senior Citizens Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Roy Teague; one son, Gary Lee Teague; a brother, Paul Bodenheimer; and one sister, Alta Westmoreland. Mrs. Teague is survived by her granddaughter, Leigh Ann Teague of Winston-Salem; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Teague also of Winston-Salem; three nieces; one nephew; and a host of cousins. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, October 21, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Chris Byrne at Old Mount Vernon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-9:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
THANOS
HARMONY -- Mr. Charles ''Chuck'' W. Thanos, died October 19, 1999. He was a retired deputy sheriff from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Davie County Sheriff's Department. He is survived by his wife, Adele Thanos; a daughter, Cindy; three sons, Skip, Raymond, and Charles, Jr. A service will be held at a later date. TURNER
MAYODAN -- Ms. Anline Turner, 76, formerly of 406 West Main Street, died Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Walnut Cove Health Care Nursing Center. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 1999 at Mayodan Moravian Church with burial to follow in the Moravian Graveyard. Ms. Turner was born May 26, 1923 in Rockingham County to the late Jasper and Ora Collins Turner. She was a member of the Mayodan Moravian Church. She is survived by her special friends, Myrtle Shreve of Mayodan and Margaret Alley of Walnut Cover and a host of other friends. BERRY
CLEMMONS -- Mr. James Ralph Berry, 91, of 4240 Hampton Rd., Clemmons, died Thursday, November 18, 1999 at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons. He was born August 29, 1908 in Henry County, Ga., to Roland and Olla Lester Berry. Mr. Berry served in the U.S. Army Airy Corps during WWII. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Jacksonville, Fla. Masonic Lodge. He retired from Greyhound Bus Company with 30 years service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Venus York Berry. Surviving are a stepson, Harold Loyd Coleman, of Clemmons; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; one sister, Julia Addison, of Norfolk, Va.; four nephews; a great niece; and a great nephew. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Westlawn Gardens of Memory by Rev. Norwood Green. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel.
CARRIGAN
WILKESBORO -- Mr. William Howard Carrigan, 86, of E. Main Street, Wilkesboro, died Friday, November 19, 1999 at Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care. Graveside services, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142, will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Park Cemetery in Wilkesboro, with the Rev. Steve Snipes and the Rev. Jay Johnson officiating. Mr. Carrigan was born in Wilkes county, August 8, 1913 to John Henry and Ida Moose Carrigan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Carrigan was a retired Federal Probation Officer in Greensboro. He was a state and southeastern champion tennis play in the 1940s and 1950s. Mr. Carrigan loved jazz and had a sound Presbyterian faith. He was a graduate of Wilkesboro High School. He also attended Greensboro Business School and Wake Forest University. Mr. Carrigan is survived by a niece, Sylvia Carrigan Pipes, of Moravian Falls; and a nephew, Eddie Carrigan, of Wilkesboro. The family will receive friends at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service. CULLER
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Mr. Joe H. Culler of Broadriver Road, Ormond Beach, Fla., died Thursday at his home after a long illness. Mr. Culler moved to Ormond Beach in 1995 from Winston-Salem, N.C. He was retired from USAir, where he served as president of the General Aviation Division. Prior to the USAir/Piedmont Airlines merger, he served as a vice president of Piedmont Airlines and president of Piedmont Aviation, Inc.; their general aviation group. He also was director of Air Service, Inc. and Aviation Supply Corp. He was twice elected president of the North Carolina Aviation and Trade Association and past director of the Aircraft Distributors Manufacturers Association, as well as chairman of the National Air Transportation Association. The Beach Aircraft Corp. has honored Mr. Culler with many awards. He received Beach's top award, being named ''Man of the Year'' in 1982 and 1985, the first person to receive the award twice. Mr. Culler first joined Piedmont in 1944 as a part-time lineman and ferry pilot. He was a vice president with Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corp. from 1958 to 1971. He was appointed by Elizabeth Dole, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation, to the U.S. Department of Transportation National Defense Executive Reserve, serving as deputy director. Mr. Culler was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He completed business courses at both Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C. He was an avid golfer and member of Pinebrook Country Club, where he served on the board, with two terms as president. He also loved Carolina basketball and had many friends throughout NASCAR. He is survived by his wife, Patty Teague Culler; one son, Steve Culler, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one daughter, Karen Johnson, of Greensboro, N.C.; three loving stepsons, Chris Attaway, of Winter Springs, Fla., Greg Bockoven, of Banner Elk, N.C., and Bobby Attaway, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother, Ed Culler, of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Dot Knight, of Walkertown, N.C., Colleen Sanders and Theresa Ramsey, both of Winston-Salem, and Larue Merritt, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 22, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
HARGER
GERMANTON -- Mrs. Lucy Loutisha Brown Harger, 93, died early Friday, November 19, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Stokes County to the late Davis Elijah and Martha Carolyn Matthews Brown. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Preceding her in death were her husband, William Henry Harger, in 1968; her son-in-law, Dewey L. White, Sr.; one sister; and three brothers. Mrs. Harger was known as a loving mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. Surviving are her daughter, Ruth Anna Harger White, of Germanton; one sister, Kathleen Vernon; and two brothers, Joe Brown and Woodrow (Mozelle) Brown, all of Walnut Cove; five grandchildren, Shelia White and Teresa (Daryl) Genung, both of Walnut Cove, Dewey White, Jr. and William White, both of Germanton, and G.W. (Melissa) White, of Boonville; two great granddaughters, Casey and Sarah Genung; and two great grandsons, Tommy and Dustin Robertson. A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Sunday, November 21, 1999 at First Christian Church, with Rev. Ben Gerardy officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery. HARRISON
Shirley Ann Harrison of 2825 Bailey Street in the Old Town Community of Winston-Salem, was born July 7, 1936 to the late Willie Vance and Rosa Joyce Glenn. Mrs. Harrison died November 18, 1999 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She attended and graduated from Carver High School. She was a domestic worker. Mrs. Harrison was a member of Bethania AME Zion Church, where she served as a member of Missionary Society No. 1, a member of the Stewardess Board, and a member of the Senior Choir. She is survived by a devoted husband, Ernest Harrison; two daughters, Angela Mickle, of Winston-Salem and Vanessa Harrison, of the home; one son, Ernest Harrison, Jr., of the home; three sisters, Violet Madison, of the Old Town Community, Ida Lash, of Chester, Pa., and Patty Hankerson, of Washington, D.C; six brothers-in-law, Sam (Bernice), of Society Hill, S.C., Tobby (Pat), of Winston-Salem, Joseph (Levinia), of Albany, N.Y., Leroy (Cheryl), of Winston-Salem, Robert, of Society Hill, S.C., and Roosevelt Harrison, of Winston-Salem; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Tony) Singletary, Shirley Harrison, and Emma Harrison, of Society Hill, S.C.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends. The family will receive friends at Bethania AME Zion Church thirty minutes prior to the 2:00 funeral service on Monday, November 22, 1999. Rev. Alvin E. Damon, Pastor, will officiate.
