KERNERSVILLE -- Mrs. Minnie Hill McMahan ''Granny Mac'', 91, of 4520 Old Winston Rd., Kernersville, N.C. 27284, died Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at her residence. She was born July 4, 1908, the daughter of the late Samuel and Ellen Huckabee Hill in Brycefield, Tenn. Mrs. McMahan was a homemaker and a charter member of Kernersville Full Gospel Mission, member for over 35 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart McMahan; a daughter, Hazel McMahan; four sons, Raymond, Robert, Edward, and Buford McMahan. Surviving are four daughters, Betty Bentley of Kernersville, Mrs. C.B. (Juanita) Rouse, Jr. of Chilhowie, Va., Mrs. Harold (Wilma) Epperson of Marion, Va., and Mrs. Charles (Carolyn ''Libby'') Gorbett, Jr. of Pasadena, Texas; two sons and their wives, Ralph (JoAnn) McMahan and Kenneth (Claudia) McMahan all of Marion, Va.; two daughters-in-law, Ruth McMahan of Marion, Va. and Louise McMahan of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Margaret Bagwell of Hendersonville, N.C.; thirty-six grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 23, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville officiated by Brother Garland Glascoe and Chaplin Rennie Adcock. Burial will be at Kerwin Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. MOOREFIELD
DATELINE -- Mrs. Eva Spears Moorefield, 86, died October 20, 1999 at her residence. Mrs. Moorefield was born in Marlboro County, S.C. on July 7, 1913, a daughter to Henry Brantley and Hannah Jane Gibson Spears. She had been a resident of High Point since 1929 and attended Sacred Heart Academy at Belmont Abbey, N.C. Mrs. Moorefield was previously employed at High Point University by Aramark. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by one sister; four brothers; and a grandson, Christopher Wayne Hampton, who died on December 31, 1995. On October 26, 1934 she was married to Harry Lee Moorefield who died on July 8, 1976. Surviving are one daughter, Ms. Judith Moorefield Hampton of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Deborah Hampton Bird of Lansdale, Pa. and William Penn (Jim) Martin of Mt. Shasta, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Nitya Prem Kurtak of Tucson, Ariz., Corbin Christopher Bird, and Griffin Hampton Bird both of Lansdale, Pa.; two nieces; and two nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church by Father John J. Kelly O.S.F.S. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. A prayer service will be at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Avenue of Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m. Being that Mrs. Moorefield's favorite color was purple, those who would choose to honor her by wearing the color purple to the services are encouraged to do so. RIDGILL
Mr. Harvey Dinkin Ridgill, A.K.A.'' H.D.'', 69, of 3715 Maverick Avenue, departed this life in the early morning hours on October 19, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born to Maybelle Pendergrass Ridgill and the late Rev. Garfield A. Ridgill on August 5, 1930 in Manning, S.C. He moved to Winston-Salem, N.C. at an early age and attended the local schools. He served a two year term in Korea between 1951 and 1953 with the U.S. Army. As a member of First Baptist Church, he served in the Sunday School and as an usher. Mr. Ridgill was well known and touched many lives while employed at the various K&W Cafeteria's throughout the city. He will be remembered by many for his warm personality and his sensitivity to the needs of the customers and co-workers. Although Mr. Ridgill was not a biological father, he supported, nurtured, inspired, and encouraged many, including his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Garfield Ridgill, Sr.; two brothers-in-law, Laughton Kelly and Lewis Mack; and one sister-in-law, Odessa Ridgill. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Mrs. Maybelle Pendergrass Ridgill; three sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Kelly and Doretha Mack of the city, and Sarah Ridgill of Inglewood, California; one brother, Mr. Garfield Ridgill, Jr. of the city; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 22, 1999 at 12:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church where Rev. Wendel Johnson will officiate and interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. ANGELL
MOCKSVILLE -- Larry Lee Angell, 54, died at his home on Dogtrot Road in Mocksville on Thursday, October 21, 1999. Mr. Angell was born January 19, 1945 in Forsyth County to Edna Miller Angell and the late Cecil Lee Angell. Mr. Angell worked in construction most of his life and was a member of Cooleemee Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Pattie Jacobs Angell, of the home; two sons, Mark A. Angell and wife, Traycee, of Kannapolis, N.C. and Tony Angell, of the home; three daughters, Leigh Ann Angell of Salisbury, N.C., Tabitha A. Robinson and husband, Lane, of Indiana, and Krystal Dawn Angell, of the home; two brothers, Gray Angell and wife, Barbara, of Mocksville and Nat Angell and wife, Vickie, of Lexington; two sisters, Linda Hamilton and husband, Larry, of Mocksville and Nan Angell and Jimmy Blume, of Mocksville; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Angell was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Stevens. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Saturday, October 23 at Davie Funeral Service Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Cooleemee Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Robert Goforth and Robert Creason officiating. BERRIER
Mrs. Ruby Stewart Berrier, 86, of 434 Duke Street, widow of Raymond Lewis Berrier, died Thursday morning, October 21, 1999 at the Oaks at Forsyth. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Friedland Moravian Church by Rev. Steve Craver and Rev. Norwood Green. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. Mrs. Berrier was born in Forsyth County, July 28, 1913, daughter of Thomas Wesley and Georgia Carmichael Stewart. She was a lifetime member of Friedland Moravian Church and retired from Bassick Sack after 27 years of service. Mrs. Berrier was preceded in death by a son, Jimmie Lewis Berrier; a grandson, Tony Berrier; two brothers, Luther Stewart and Bernie Stewart; and one sister, Pearl Matthews. Surviving are one son, Tommy Berrier, of the home; four grandchildren, Rickie Berrier and wife, Lou Ann, of King, Danny Berrier, of Winston-Salem, Kathy Woods and husband, Paul, of Kernersville, and Linda Snowden and husband, Chuck, of Reedy Creek; one sister, Bertha Hiatt, of Winston-Salem; and one brother, Bill Stewart and wife, Ruth, of Winston-Salem. BOWERS
YADKINVILLE -- Mrs. Alma Clodfelter Shoaf Bowers, 77, died Thursday, October 21, 1999 at Hoots Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bowers was a native of Forsyth County, born June 20, 1922 to the late R. Bernie and Mary Della York Clodfelter. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jonesville. Mrs. Bowers was twice married, first to Henry Lee Shoaf, who died in 1968, and later, to William Henry Bowers, who died in 1980. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Starling Shoaf. Surviving are two sons, R.A. Shoaf, of Gainesville, Fla. and David W. Shoaf, of Yadkinville; five grandchildren; and one brother, Vance York Clodfelter, of Clemmons. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel by Rev. Don Herb. Interment will follow in Waughtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
BROWN
Mrs. Ada Margaret Settle Brown, of 4101 Carver School Road, was born in Winston-Salem to the late James and Willeane Grier Settle. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College (now Winston-Salem State University), receiving a Master's degree from North Carolina A&T State University. She retired from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Public Schools after 34 years of service. Mrs. Brown was a member of Lloyd Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. In the community, she was active in the Columbia Heights Chapter of the Winston-Salem State University Alumni Association, and the Atkins High Reunion. She was also a member of the University Women. She departed this life Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center following a period of illness. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 24 at 3:00 p.m. at Lloyd Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Laura Spangler officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, of the home, Robert Brown; one son, Norman Brown, of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Roxie Settle, of Winston-Salem and Gladys Bailey, of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Vincent Settle, of Winston-Salem; one sister-in-law, Fannie Gerald, of Winston-Salem; one brother-in-law, Albert (Jimmie) Brown, of Columbia, Md.; and several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. GLADE VALLEY -- Mrs. Alma Blevins Caudill, 86, of 20 Caudill Road, Glade Valley, N.C., died Friday, October 22, 1999 at her residence. Born October 13, 1913 to Quincy and Emma Combs Caudill, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Caudill. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Avalee Caudill, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Reba Blevins, of Glade Valley; two grandchildren and their spouses, Rick and Lynn Caudill, of Mt. Airy and Kelly and Dale Higgins, of Rural Hall; four great grandchildren, Lisa and Amber Caudill, of Mt. Airy and Lauren and Lindsey Higgins, of Rural Hall; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 25 at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Fred E. Jennings and Rev. Everett Shaw. Mrs. Ruth Lashmit Crater, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, October 22, 1999. She was born October 3, 1915 in Forsyth County to Lee and Mary Spaugh Lashmit. Mrs. Crater was a member of Hope Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Coy S. Crater, in 1983; one sister, Nellie Livengood; and a brother, Edgar Lashmit. Surviving are three daughters, Linda Smith (Dewey), of Winston-Salem, Doris Moore (Everette), of Thomasville, and Annette Wagoner (Billy), of Winston-Salem; two sons, Richard Crater (Brenda), of Mocksville and Terry Crater (Brenda), of Winston-Salem; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Hope Moravian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. WILKESBORO -- Ruby M. Davis, 61, of Overlook Drive, Wilkesboro, died Friday, October 22, 1999 at her residence. She was born September 8, 1938 to Monroe and Lillie Taylor Mathis. She was a case worker for the Wilkes County Department of Social Services and a member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement. She is survived by one daughter, Quinn Bowman, of Dobson; two sons, Michael B. Davis and his wife, Corene, of East Bend and Randy Davis, of Sparta; one brother, Buford Thomas Mathis, of Wilkesboro; and three grandchildren, Sarah Brianne Davis, Megan Bowman, and Ashley Bowman. The funeral service will be conducted 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24 at Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Wilkesboro, with Pastor Matthew Miller officiating.
