THOMPKINS
Mr. Clarence Blair Thompkins, Sr., 67, of 559 Kinard Drive, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center, following a period of illness. He was a native of Amherst, Va., born on June 11, 1932, the son of the late Zeb and Emma Blair Thompkins. He lived in Washington, DC and Toledo, Ohio for many years, and had lived in Winston-Salem, N.C. for the past three years. He was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Celestine Lawson Thompkins. He is survived by his son, Clarence (Regina) Thompkins, Jr. of Glenarden, Md.; three grandchildren, Lafonda, Shanita, and Marcus Thompkins of Glenarden, Md.; one brother, Gordon (Mary) Thompkins of Temple Hills, Md.; two nieces, Bernice Wright of Washington, DC and Shirley Taylor of Upper Malboro, Md.; one nephew, Jerome Hicks of Georgia; his mother-in-law Odessa Lawson of the home; four very special and devoted friends, Deidre Anderson, Madonna Tanyhill, Stephanie Simmons, and William Highsmith; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Salisbury National Cemetery. THURSTON
WILSON -- Annabelle Thornton Thurston, of Wilson, N.C. died Saturday, October 23, 1999 at the Fitzgerald Health Care Center of Triad United Methodist Home. Born in Sampson County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Julia Weaver Thornton. Mrs. Thurston received her teacher's degree from East Carolina Teacher's College and taught first grade in Wilson's Mills. A longtime resident of Wilson, she was an active member of First Baptist Church, the Women's Club, and was a founding member of the Arts Council. She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Thurston Myers and son-in-law, Brad of Winston-Salem; and granddaughters, Elizabeth and Katherine. A private service will be held today at Centenary United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1467, Wilson, N.C. 27894 or Amos Cottage Guild, Office of Development, WFU School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27157-1021. Voglers, Main Street Chapel is serving the Thurston family.

GERMANTON -- Mr. Wesley Mitchell Watts, 89, of Germanton, N.C. passed away on Sunday, October 24, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Watts was born July 25, 1910 to the late Squire Oliver and Ada Tuttle Watts. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Rosebud Christian Church. Mr. Watts was preceded in death by his wife, Ida (Noon) Browder Watts; and a granddaughter, Miriam Lynn Redmon. He is survived by one daughter, Margaret and her husband, Tommy Redmon of Germanton; one son, Allen and his wife, Lettie Watts of Germanton; sisters, Ida Alley of Walnut Cove, Beulah Carroll of Germanton, Virginia Alley of Danbury, Mary Hindricks of Winston-Salem, Mozelle Carroll of Winston-Salem, and Martha Petree of Rocky Mount; four grandchildren, Mark and his wife, Debbie Watts of Germanton, Jeffrey and his wife, Amy Watts of King, Sara and husband, Van Gravitt of King, and Susan and husband, Bobby Fulk of Germanton; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at Rosebud Christian Church with Rev. Louis Locke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. HIGH POINT -- Mrs. Christine Goldsmith Williams of 1207 Dartmouth Ave., High Point, N.C. formerly of 1824 North Jackson Ave., Winston-Salem, passed away Friday morning in High Point. She lived in High Point with her daughter, Mrs. Gloria Williams Huntley Bethea. She was born in Greenville, S.C. November 3, 1904 to the late John Henry and Maude Austin Goldsmith. She was the eldest of 12 children. She was educated in Greenville Public Schools, where she taught briefly. She moved to Winston-Salem in 1937 as the young bride of Zodie Williams, who preceded her in death. She was a Seamstress by trade and worked in a domestic capacity for many Winston-Salem families. She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as Superintendent of Sunday School for many years, Vice President of the church Missionary Circle, Nurses Board, and Senior Choir. She was Recording Secretary of the Women's Missionary Auxiliary of the High Point Assoc. She was a Supervisor of Young People Missionary Circle. She was a member of the Deaconess Board. She was affiliated with the Jackson Community Club and Atlantic Social Club. She is survived by a loving daughter, Mrs. Gloria Williams Huntley Bethea of High Point; one granddaughter, Mrs. Robin A. Huntley Bristow (Randall); two grandsons, Randall and Ryan Bristow; five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Lean Lewis (Leo), Mrs. Winton Lewis (Jay); Mrs. Clara Wilson, Mrs. Marion Fergeson, and Mrs. Myrtle Ashmore, all of Greenville, S.C.; other relatives and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy and Sharon Merriman; nieces; nephews; and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at 12 noon at First Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. John Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 26, 1999 from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon, thirty minutes prior to the services. RURAL HALL -- Mr. Coy Delmer Wilson, 55, of 7760 Broad St., died Wednesday, November 24, 1999 at his home after a brief period of declining health. Mr. Wilson was born in Stokes County on November 2, 1944 the son of the late George William and Usley Irene Childress Wilson. Mr. Wilson had worked for Armetex Inc. in Pilot Mountain for six years he had owned and operated the New Deal Lunch (The Greasy Egg) in Pilot Mountain for fourteen years and was the owner and operated Wilson's Drywall in Rural Hall for the past seventeen years. Surviving are his companion, Linda Hart of the home; four children, Dale and Peyton Wilson of Pilot Mountain, Debbie and Denny Jones and Kenneth and Rosa Wilson and Darrell Wilson all of Mt. Airy; nine grandchildren, Dylan, Casse, Stacey, Junior, Roshel, Damyen, Brandon, Heather, and Reagan; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Clara) Duncan of Siloam and Mrs. Esker (Melba) Key of Trinity; also surviving are his extended family, Harry Carithers of Rural Hall, Michelle Hart and fiance', Randy Allison of Walnut Cove, Steve and Janet Carithers and daughter, Allison of Rural Hall; and many special friends. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Wilson and a twin brother, Gilmer Wilson. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 1999 at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Pinnacle by Brother Don Collins. YADKINVILLE -- Mr. Thomas Arthur ''Tommy'' Wood, 60, of Yadkinville, died November 22, 1999 at Willow Brook Health Care Center. He was born March 7, 1939 to the late Roy Herbert and Ruby Hayes Wood. He was a retired Car Salesman and a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church. Surviving is one daughter, Sherry (Roger) O'Dell of Hamptonville; one son, Chuck (Teresa) Wood of Yadkinville; two sisters, Bertha Vanhoy of East Bend and Nancy (Jimmy) King of Hamptonville; five brothers, Mac Wood of Yadkinville, Felix (Marie) Wood of Dobson, James (Nancy) Wood of Harmony, Franklin (Edna) Wood of Yadkinville, and Roy Wayne ''Woody'' Wood of Boonville; and three grandchildren, Darryl (Hope) Wood, Tonya Spann, and Kelly Wood. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 26, 1999 at Gentry Family Chapel conducted by Rev. Ida Elizabeth Martin Ziglar, 90, of 204 N. Ayersville Rd., Mayodan, N.C., died Tuesday, November 23, 1999 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. She was born August 16, 1909. She was a homemaker, a member of Victory Baptist Church, and attended Lakeview Baptist Church. Mr. Ziglar was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Ziglar and grandson, Kenny Ziglar. Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Ore and husband, Robert of Mayodan and Lee Frances Morton and husband, Max of Oak Ridge; one son, John Robert Ziglar and wife, Mickie of Madison; one brother, Jerry Martin of Mayodan; four grandchildren, Robbie Ore, Lisa Gann, Butch Knight, and Todd Knight; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 1999 at Lakeview Baptist Church with burial in Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Gwyn Blevins, Jr., 64, of 2258 Pleasant St., died Monday, October 25, 1999 at his residence. He was born June 18, 1935 in Winston-Salem to George and Eva Holland Blevins, Sr. Mr. Blevins was a self-employed painter and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are one sister, Nancy Green of Baltimore, Md.; one aunt, Lou ''Granny'' Myers of Winston-Salem; and his beloved companion of 20 years, Hazel Langley. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in Woodland Cemetery officiated by Rev. Marion Rector. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Vogler & Sons Main St. funeral home.

MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. William Harvey (Bill) Boyles, 59, of 2169 Caudle Rd., Mt. Airy husband of Mrs Twainette Massey Boyles, died Monday, October 25, 1999 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Boyles was born October 29, 1939 in Patrick County, Va. to the late William Virgil (Byrd) Boyles and Lillie Victoria McMillian Boyles. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, owner and operator of B&B Catering and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Boyles was also a member of the Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF & AM, the York Rites Bodies, the Surry Shriners Club, Oasis Temple, and the Mt. Airy Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Twainette Massey Boyles of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Mark Sexton of Mt. Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Harvey and Anna Boyles, Jr. of Pinnacle, N.C. and Barry William and Anita Boyles of Mt. Airy; three grandchildren, Christopher Mark Sexton, Brittani Ginette Sexton, and Barry William (B.J.) Boyles, Jr.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Don Worley of Roanoke, Va., Muriel Wood of Ararat, Va., and Mary Lou Carson of Winston-Salem; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald E. and Wanda Boyles of Mt. Airy and James Turner and Kathy Boyles of Tampa, Fla.; and a host of family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boyles was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Blansett and Maydee Slate. Elois Smith Brown, 57, of 356 Rickard Rd., formerly of Walnut Cove, died October 21, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born June 18, 1942 to the late James Smith and Alma Ziglar. She was a Security Guard with Budd Services and a member of Bethlehem Apostlic Church. Surviving are one daughter, Gloria Woods; five sisters, Emma Moore and Betty Smith both of Detroit, Mich., Harriet Scales of Baltimore, Md., Sally Douthit of Winston-Salem, and Louise Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; four brothers, James (Geeda) Smith of Baltimore, Md., Bernard Smith, Daniel Smith, and Stanley Smith all of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Sherrod Smith, Shuntiya Smith, Ricarlo Woods, and Rishawna Woods; and two aunts, Claudia Simmons of Westfield, N.C. and Mattie Moore of Sandy Ridge. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 1999 by Frances S. and Jerry C. Gilmore, Jr., Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
