ADKINS
KING -- Alma Jones Adkins, 81, died Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center after being in declining health for several years. She was born February 19, 1918 in Surry County to Cicero C. and Sarah Jane Coalson Jones. Mrs. Adkins was retired from Carolina Narrow Fabric Company in Winston-Salem. Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert William Adkins in 1963. Surviving are two daughters, Linda A. Church and husband, Hayes of Winston-Salem and Susan A. Warner of King; three sons, Charles W. Adkins, Robert O. Adkins and wife, Carolyn and Richard Adkins and wife, Jayne all of King; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Rogers of High Point and Ruby Rogers of Walnut Cove; and two brothers, Lonnie Jones of King and Gathel Jones of Tobaccoville. She was a member of Poplar Springs Church of Christ where funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. with Ralph Sproles, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home in King and other times at the home of a daughter, Susan Warner on W. Dalton Road in King. BLACKBURN
TOBACCOVILLE -- Mrs. Lillie Culler Blackburn, 99, of 3844 Tobaccoville Rd., died Monday, October 25, 1999 at Forsyth medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Blackburn was the widow of James A. Blackburn who preceded her in death in 1970. Mrs. Blackburn was born in Stokes County on July 5, 1900 the daughter of the late Jefferson Davis Culler and Tamson Jane Hicks Culler. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Tobaccoville and was a member of the Old Richmond Senior Citizens Club. Surviving are three daughters, Viola Westmoreland and husband, John Lee of Rural Hall, Dorothy ''Dot'' Holt and husband, Richard of Winston-Salem, and Betty Tuttle of Tobaccoville; four sons, Henry Blackburn and Grover Blackburn and wife, Louise of Pinnacle; twenty-six grandchildren; torty-five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; and three special friends, Gynn Cook, Rebecca Gentry, and Kim Costa. Mrs. Blackburn was preceded in death by two daughters, Ethel Blackburn and Bonnie Helsabeck; and one son, Paul Blackburn; two grandsons, Jimmie Blackburn and Mark Helsabeck. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 1999 at Macedonia Baptist Church by Rev. Paul Norman. BOLEJACK
RURAL HALL -- Mrs. Pauline Wall Bolejack, 89, of Rural Hall, died Monday, October 25, 1999 at Rose Tara Plantation in King after a brief period of declining health. She was the widow of J. Howard Bolejack who preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. Bolejack was born in Stokes County on August 4, 1910 the daughter of the late J.C. and Maggie Tuttle Wall. Mrs. Bolejack was a member of Poplar Springs Church of Christ in King and had been active in the Berean Sunday School Class, the Wednesday Bible Study Group, the Golden Agers Club, and was a member of the Rural Hall Senior Citizens Club. She had retired from Bassick-Sak Company in Winston-Salem. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mona Griffin-Thomas and husband, Jean of Pilot Mountain; two grandsons, Lee Griffin and wife, Susan of Raleigh and Tommy Griffin and wife, Moira of Cary; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Logan Griffin of Cary; a special cousin, Ann Wall of Lawsonville; and a very special friend, Homer Edwards of King. Mrs. Bolejack was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Wall and Everette Wall. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m Wednesday at Poplar Springs Church of Christ by Ralph Sproles, Donnie Wallace, and Chuck Bower, Ministers. Mrs. Bolejack will lie-instate at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. KING -- Robert Hayes Boyles, 62, of Capella Road, died unexpectedly Monday, October 25, 1999. He was born Dec. 19, 1936 in Stokes County to Robert Gilmer and Virtie Kiser Boyles. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Flippin Boyles of the home; one daughter, Robin Hutchens and husband, Andy; one son, Darren DeWayne Boyles and wife, Elizabeth; his mother, Virtie Kiser Boyles; and three grandchildren, Austin Wayne Boyles, Ethan John Hutchens, and Brandon Lee Boyles all of King. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gilmer Boyles in 1979; a brother, Elbert Ray (Bub) Boyles; and an infant sister, Judy Lane Boyles. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Capella Church of Christ Cemetery with Elder Jimmy Lankford officiating. Elois Smith Brown, 57, of 356 Rickard Rd., formerly of Walnut Cove, died October 21, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born June 18, 1942 to the late James Smith and Alma Ziglar. She was a Security Guard with Budd Services and a member of Bethlehem Apostlic Church. Surviving are one daughter, Gloria Woods; five sisters, Emma Moore and Betty Smith both of Detroit, Mich., Harriet Scales of Baltimore, Md., Sally Douthit of Winston-Salem, and Louise Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; four brothers, James (Geeda) Smith of Baltimore, Md., Bernard Smith, Daniel Smith, and Stanley Smith all of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Sherrod Smith, Shuntiya Smith, Ricarlo Woods, and Rishawna Woods; and two aunts, Claudia Simmons of Westfield, N.C. and Mattie Moore of Sandy Ridge. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. today at Bethlehem Holiness Apotolic Church of God in Christ. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. DARDEN
Mr. Otho Darden, Sr., of 3031 Airport Rd. was born in Amory, Miss. to the late Frank and Alice Darden. He was a resident of Winston-Salem for over 25 years. He was a retiree of the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of service having served in the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Darden was a retired hairstylist and was a barber/cosmetologist for Silas Creek Manor until his health declined. Mr. Darden was a member of Phillips Chapel Baptist Church where he was a member of the Sunday School department, past chairman of the Trustee Board, and past president of the Senior Usher Board. In the community he was a member of several organizations which included the Winston-Salem Beauticians Association Chapter #2 the Northwood Estates Know Your Neighbor Club, the March of Dimes, and the Retired Association of Armed Forces. He departed this life Sunday, October 24, 1999 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a period of illness. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. from the Phillips Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Ray L. Watlington officiating. Interment will follow in the Salisbury National Cemetery with full military rites. He is survived by his spouse of the home, Coleen Cain Darden; four daughters, Patricia Darden of Atlanta, Ga., Opal Darden of Chesapeake, Va., and Donna Brown and Evette Darden (fiance', Bobby Lee Bradley) all of Winston-Salem; two sons, Otho Darden, Jr. (Cindy) of Carson City, Nev. and Douglas Darden of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Ernestine Walls of Fulton, Miss; three God-children, George and Doris Chunn, and Valeria Long all of Winston-Salem; a devoted niece, Barbara Lee Cain of Raleigh; a very devoted friends, Marcelette ''Corkie'' Verble of Winston-Salem; and a host of other relatives and friends. The cortege will leave from the residence at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The remains will lie instate from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Miss Amber Nichole Foushee, 26, of Rock Garden Cr., died October 25, 1999 at her home. She was born on January 12, 1973 in Forsyth County to John V. Foushee, Jr. and Suzanne Quesinberry Foushee. Miss Foushee was a graduate of North Forsyth High School and attended UNC-Greensboro and Appalachian State University. She was active in sports and civic activities while attending North Forsyth High School. Miss Foushee was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Lib Foushee and both of her maternal grandparents, Owen and Polly Quesinberry. She is survived by her mother, Suzanne Quesinberry Foushee of Winston-Salem and her father, John Foushee, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Sherrills Ford, N.C.; one brother, Mike Foushee and his wife, Sheila of Winston-Salem; and her grandfather, J. Vernon Foushee, Sr. of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Otis Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Vickie Lorraine Hunter Hairston, 51, of 5012 Longbrook Circle passed away on Sunday, October 24, 1999 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center. She was a native and resident of Winston-Salem, N.C. and was a lifelong member of Reynolds Temple CME Church where she served on the Usher Board, the Missionary Society, and the Pastor's Aide Board. Vickie was a graduate of Anderson High School and a representative for the National Lupus Foundation. She was a self-employed seamstress. She was preceded in passing by a brother, Vernon Hunter and a sister, Brenda Cunningham. She is survived by her husband, John W. Hairston of the home; two daughters, Jemitra Renee Hairston of Washington, D.C. and Joy Hairston of the home; her mother, Jessie (Oscar) Crockett of Winston-Salem; one sister, Lydia D. Hunter of Fort Collins, Colorado; three brothers, Johnell (Debra) Hunter, Donald (Bessie) Hunter, and Stanley Hunter all of Winston-Salem; three uncles, Raythell (Lue) Meadows, David Meadows both of Detroit, Mich., and Alphonso Meadows of Winston-Salem; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 28, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from the Reynolds Temple CME Church with Reverend Dennis Peterson officiating and the eulogy by Reverend James Goodwin. LEXINGTON -- Mr. Joe J. Hanes, 73, of N.C. Hwy. 150, Lexington, died Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at 6:44 a.m. in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after an illness of two months. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October, 28, 1999 at Good Hope United Methodist Church where he was a member. Rev. Arthur Holland will officiate. Burial will be in the Good Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was born in Davidson County on October 31, 1925 to Seth Lee Hanes and Cora Shoaf Hanes. He was a retired carpenter and former member of the Reedy Creek Lions Club. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Bowers Hanes on Mary 25, 1989. Surviving are a son, Tony Hanes and wife, Wendy of Southmont; a daughter, Shelby Hedrick and husband, David of Lexington; a grandson, Josh Hedrick of Lexington; a brother, Steve Hanes of Lexington; and two Isabelle Perrell of Lexington and Pearlene of Reidsville. PINNACLE -- Mr. Gomery Dairell Holt, 64, of Rt. 1 Pinnacle, died Monday, October 25, 1999. He was born in Surry County on January 14, 1935 to the late Ottis and Louise Edmonds Holt. He was a retired farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia White and two brothers, James Holt and Gence Holt. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jacqueline Woods Holt of Mt. Airy; two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Davis of Dobson and Ms. Janet Hold of Dobson; six sons, Stephen Holt of Siloam, Keith Holt of Pinnacle, Greg Holt of Pilot Mountain, Timmy Holt, Mark Holt, and Jeffery Holt all of Siloam; eight grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. at Davis & Son Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Salem Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
