CLEMMONS -- Mr. James Dermont Howard, 88, died Saturday, November 27, 1999 at his residence. He was born May 31, 1911 in Davie County to Casper and Maggie Luster Howard. Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Stevens Howard, in 1982; and a son, Bobby Howard. Surviving are his daughter, Nancy Hendrix and husband, Harry, of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Sherry McCulloh and husband, Lee, of Mocksville, and Lynn Thompson and husband, Richard, of Texas; three great grandchildren, Stephan Thompson, Matthew McCulloh, and Eric McCulloh; and one sister, Clare Parks, of Clemmons. Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, with Rev. Otis Clampitt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

RURAL HALL -- Mrs. Lela Shores Hudspeth, 78, of Heatherton Lane, died Friday, November 26, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born March 11, 1921 in Surry County to Troy and Betty Emma White Shores. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and the Mother's Sunday School Class. She retired from Southern Tool Mfg. Company. Surviving are one daughter, Faye Gillespie and husband, Bill, of Clemmons; two sons, Bobby G. Hudspeth and wife, Ann, of Reedy Creek, and Ronnie L. and wife, Nancy, of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Scott Boyer and wife, Lisa, Todd Boyer and wife, Dawn, Jeremiah Hudspeth, and Tina Hudspeth; and three great grandchildren, Jessica and David Boyer, and Jake Boyer. Also surviving are one sister, Lou Holder; and four brothers, Hobert, Jerry, Burford, and Foley Shores. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, 1999 at Pleasant View Baptist Church by Rev. B.A. Carroll and Rev. Tim White. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

WOODLEAF -- Carmen F. IJames, age 85, of Woodleaf passed away Thursday, November 25, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She is survived by one sister, Lililis IJames Penninger, of Woodleaf; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are incomplete at this time. A 2:00 p.m. graveside service will be held Sunday, November 28 at New Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeff Pennington officiating. KIGER
Mr. Jerry Clyde Kiger, 53, of Fishel Rd., died Friday, November 27, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 12, 1946 in Forsyth County to Sidney Clyde Kiger and Lena Varner Kiger. Mr. Kiger will be dearly missed by family and friends. He owned and operated Bilt-Rite Parts, Inc. for over 25 years. He loved gardening and visiting the coast to go fishing. He was preceded in death by his mother; a nephew, Cody; and a cousin, Russell Varner. Surviving are his father, Sidney Clyde Kiger, of the home; his loving companion for 35 years, Kay Yvonne; two brothers, Dale Kiger and wife, Betty, of Winston-Salem, and Allan Kiger and special friend, Sue Litton, of Lexington; one sister, Joanie Lambeth and husband, Wayne, of Winston-Salem; an uncle Everette H. Varner, of Pfafftown; two nieces, Jessica and Carrie Kiger; two nephews, Shawn Lambeth and wife, Angie, and Jason Kiger; great niece and nephew, T.J. Talor and Austin Lambeth; and several cousins. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by Dr. Ray Hamilton. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. CLEMMONS -- Mr. Travis Lee Lucas, 17, died Friday, November 26, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1982 in Forsyth County to William Gary Lucas and Sharon McMahan Gallup. Travis attended Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, N.C., where he was a sophomore. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Sharon M. Gallup and Kenneth R. Gallup, Jr., both of Clemmons; his father and stepmother, William Gary Lucas and Kristi Lucas, both of Oakridge, N.C.; a brother, Mark Edward Lucas, of Clemmons; a grandmother, Earlene Lucas, of Star, N.C.; a stepbrother, Kenneth R. Gallup, III, of Bermuda Run, N.C.; a stepsister, Melinda C. Gallup, of Winston-Salem; his step grandparents, Don and Carol McFarland, of Eden, Idaho; a step grandmother, Mrs. Margaret F. Gallup, of Winston-Salem; and seven aunts and uncles, who were very special to him. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 29, 1999 by Dr. David Hughes and Rev. Paul Mullen. MCCORKLE
Mr. Otis Allen ''Mac'' McCorkle, 93, of Hayes Forest Drive and formerly of Reynolds Road, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 25, 1999 at his home. Mr. McCorkle was a native of Texarkana, Texas, where he was born October 20, 1906 to the late Otis H. and Ethel Allen McCorkle. He was a decendent of Dr. Samuel E. McCorkle, a pioneer Presbyterian minister, who started many boys schools in North Carolina, and who was a founder of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. McCorkle was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service following 20 years of service. He is survived by his beloved wife, Claire Mitchell McCorkle, of the home, 1199 Hayes Forest Drive; and several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Graveside services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Forsyth Memorial Park. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 501 W. Fifth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Cherry Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. MEYERS
NORTH BETHESDA, Md. -- Jim Meyers died Wednesday morning at his home in North Bethesda, Md. He was born June 30, 1922 to Joseph and Katherine King Meyers. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Lee Grubbs Meyers, of the home. Also surviving are daughter, Paula M. Butler; and son, Patrick Meyers; and four grandchildren, Scott and Shawn Meyers, and Jennie and Bobby Butler, of Bethesda, Md. Jim was a news broadcaster for WSJS before he joined WTOP-Radio in Washington, D.C., which featured his own musical interpretations at the piano, organ, and celeste. He was often joined by his wife, Ruby Lee, who gave the weather report and sang request numbers. Jim was a broadcaster with Voice of America Radio for the past 20 years until his death this week. Services will be held Saturday in Silver Spring, Md. and burial at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Rockville, Md.

Mrs. Minnie Carithers Morgan, 79, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, November 27, 1999 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Morgan was born May 26, 1920 in Forsyth County to J.N.B. and Minnie Alderman Carithers. She attended Oak Forest United Methodist Church. Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, Alonza Morgan; and four brothers, Junior, Buddy, Jack, and Jimmy Dean Carithers. Surviving are two sons, Johnny and wife, Carolyn Morgan, of Winston-Salem, and Bill Morgan of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Harry and Mack Carithers, both of Rural Hall; five grandchildren, Michael Morgan, Kimberly Steelman and husband, Kenny, Lee Morgan and wife, Ann, John Morgan, and Neil Morgan; four great grandchildren, Morgan Steelman, Erin Morgan, Jennifer Morgan, and Catherine; and a dear friend, Paige Beshears. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 29, 1999 at Oak Forest United Methodist Church by Rev. James T. (Chip) Webb. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. FAYETTEVILLE -- Mr. Charles Richard Stimpson, age 65, of 6801 Candlewood Dr., departed this life Thursday, November 25, 1999, in Winston-Salem. Charles was born January 14, 1934 to the late Samuel and Laura Stimpson, in Yadkin County. He was retired from Avis Rental Car Services in Greensboro, N.C. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Margaret Speas Stimpson, of the home; one daughter, Sharon A. Stimpson, of Newport News, Va.; two sons, Robert C. Stimpson, of the home, and Ricky Hatcher, of Winston-Salem; a devoted niece, Mrs. Cherrie Y. Crisp, of Kernersville; five sisters, Mrs. Louise Williams and Laura B. Stimpson, both of Passic, N.J., Mrs. Lola Black and Josephine Stimpson, both of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Evelyn Rodman, of Asheboro; three brothers, Samuel Stimpson, Jr. and James Stimpson, both of Winston-Salem, and Herman Stimpson, of Asheboro; one uncle, James Jarrett, of Philadelphia, Pa.; two aunts, Mrs. Milrose Shores, of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Lillian Booker, of Douglasville, Pa.; and a host of nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends. CLEMMONS -- Evia Margaret Linebery Wall, 81, of Meadowbrook Manor, died Friday, November 26, 1999, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She was born to the late Earnest H. and Mary Jane Lineberry. She was a member of South Fork Baptist Church. Mrs. Wall was the widow of Jerry Moses Wall. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson and Foyster Lineberry; and a sister, Beulah Lineberry Matthews. Surviving are two daughters, Daphane Wall Buie (Doug), of Clemmons and Roxann Wall Briggs (Danny Yount), of Walnut Cove; one son, Rocky Wall (LuAnn), of Walkertown; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 29 at Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Larry Easler.
