POINDEXTER
RAMONA, CALIF. -- Mr. Gordon Scott Poindexter, 65, a native of East Bend, North Carolina, died Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at Chase Lane in El Cajon where he had lived and had been in declining health for several months. He was born on March 5, 1934 to the late Jesse L. and Hester Scott Poindexter. He attended High Point (NC) College and served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. Surviving are his former wife, Janet Smith Poindexter of San Diego; a daughter, Anne Lynn (Kevin) Hoskins and their two grandchildren, Jesse Lee and Kaitlyn all of Ramona; a son, Gordon Scott (Lynn) Poindexter and their two grandsons, Bryan Scott and Matthew Scott all of Ramona; a brother, Jesse L. (Betty) Poindexter of 4943 Leinbach Drive, Winston-Salem; two sisters, Marian (Floyd) Miller of East Bend and Judith (Kenneth) Long of Pfafftown, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Appropriate memorial services will be held in Ramona and in East Bent, but specific plans have not been finalized.

PRIM
COOLEEMEE -- Mr. Vestal George (V.G.) Prim, Sr., 81, of Ruffin Street, died Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Cemetery in Mocksville with Rev. Dennis Marshall officiating. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home, Friday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. They request memorials be considered for Cooleemee United Methodist Church of which he was a member, c/o Ms. Cindy Cuthrell, 133 Junction Rd., Mocksville, N.C. or Humane Society of Davie County, P.O. Box 153 Mocksville, N.C. 27028. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Daniel Prim of the home and one son, V.G. (Frosty) Prim, Jr. and wife, Susan of Mocksville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Wendell Prim. V.G. Prim was born in Yadkin County to George W. Prim and Roxie V. Prim. Tobacco and diary farming was the familys' primary livelihood. He was educated in the Yadkin County school system. After high school, he attended and graduated from Guilford College. He received his Masters Degree and Ed. S. Degree from Appalachian State University. His first educational position was as a teacher at Walnut Cove High School in Stokes County from 1941-1943. After this teaching position, he was hired as principal at Townsville High School in Vance County in 1943-1944. From 1944-1946 he was the principal of Farmington High School in Davie County. In 1946 he became the principal at Cooleemee School in Davie County and stayed there until he retired in 1980. He married the former Pauline Daniel (daughter of Grant G. Daniel and Pearl F. Daniel) in 1950. Mr. and Mrs. Prim had one son, Vestal George Prim, Jr. born in 1954. He married the former Susan D. Mathis in 1980. Mr. Prim was elected to Davie County Board of Education in 1980, after his retirement. He served two terms on the board and was chairman for six years. At about this time he was named to the North Carolina Advisory Committee on Education Block Grants by Governor Jim Martin. Mr. Prim was Davie County's nominee for the Terry Sanford Award in 1974 and was the District 5 Principal of the Year in 1976 (at the time, District 5 consisted of Davie, Iredell, Davidson, Rowan, and Cabarrus counties). He was nominated for the Raleigh Dingman Award in 1988. The award pays tribute to school board members who have made significant contributions to public education. He also served as a member of Davie County Hospital Board of Trustees for 11 1/2 years including several years as chairman. He was also very active in the Republican Party and was treasurer for many years. V.G. Prim's concern for public education is well known in Davie County. Concern for all the students, not just a few, was one of the most admirable qualities of V.G. Prim. For any student who sincerely wanted an education, he was one of their best friends.

RENEGAR
Mr. Aldean Renegar, 84, of 3809 Crosland Rd., died Tuesday evening at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born January 2, 1915 in Harmony to Lanto and Annie Wallace Renegar. Mr. Renegar was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church in Iredell County. For over 40 years, he worked for the Pepsi-Cola Company. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was an avid surf fisherman and enjoyed camping trips with his family. Mr. Renegar was preceded in death by four brothers, Colin, Rudolph, Alvin, and Raymond Renegar; and a sister, Elmina R. Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Williams Renegar, of the home; his daughter, Marisa Renegar Pace, of the home; three brothers, Joseph Renegar and his wife, Joann, of Statesville, Georgie Renegar and his wife, Thelma, of Charlotte, and Thomas Lee Renegar and his wife, Kay, of Midway; two sisters, Patty Stockner and her husband, Tom, of Winston-Salem and Gerline Renegar, of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Lois Renegar, of Harmony; a brother-in-law, Roy Anderson, of Mocksville; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Friday, October 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Rd. Chapel, with Rev. Albert Smith officiating. Interment will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

SHORE
HAMPTONVILLE -- Mrs. Ruby Calloway Shore, 88, of Dezern Road, died Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at her home. She was born May 18, 1911 in Yadkin County to the late Samuel Wilson and Elizabeth Seagraves Calloway. Mrs. Shore was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded n death by a sister, Nannie Pinnix and three brothers, Duried (Dukes) Calloway, Raymond Calloway, and Coy Calloway. Surviving in one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Betty Jean and Roy Gray of Hamptonville; two sisters, Ethel Hemric of Hamptonville and Hazel Stokes of Hamptonville; and one grandchild, Jakie Gray of Kernersville. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m Saturday at Swan Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Larry Lefler with burial in the church cemetery. She will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Little Mtn. Road in Jonesville.

SMITH
MOUNT AIRY -- Betty Lou Shelton Smith, 63, of 1606 Chatham Road, Mount Airy, N.C., died October 27, 1999. Mrs. Smith was born in Stokes County May 22, 1936 to James Luther and Annie Beasley Shelton. She was past president of the 11th District V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, was a life member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post 2019, was a member of Surry County Democratic Women, and a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, David M. and Sheryl Smith of Roanoke, Va.; her former husband of 37 years and friend, Jack D. Smith of Mount Airy; two sisters, Lolean Snow of Mount Airy and Rachel Othenia Vaden of Westfield; and one brother, Rev. Edward Shelton of Flint, Michigan. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, October 31, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain, N.C. by Chaplain A.G. Parker of the 11th District V.F.W. Interment will be in the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by the V.F.W. Post 2019 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home and Chapel on Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at other times at the Smith home in Mount Airy, N.C. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary 11th District Scholarship Fund, c/o Al Edwards, Chairman, 1357 Amylee Trail, Kernersville, N.C. 27284.

SOUTHERN
KERNERSVILLE -- Carol Ann Southern, 59, of Villa Drive, died Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at her residence. She was born in Forsyth County, September 17, 1940 the daughter of Frank William and Annie L. (Smith) Southern. The funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Historic Chapel of Kernersville Moravian Church. Burial will follow in God's Acre. A native of Kernersville, Carol was a very loving sister who will not be forgotten. She is survived by three sisters, Norma Morphis and husband Roy, Clara S. Sink and husband, Roger, and Mary Elizabeth Southern, all of Kernersville; one brother, Frank William Southern, Jr., of Wilmington; special nephew, Daniel Ray Sink, of Kernersville, and nephew, Ronald Scott Southern, of Wilmington. The family will receive friends at her sisters residence at 7740 Watkins Ford Road, Kernersville.

STEVENS
WALNUT COVE -- Gary Lee Stevens, 45, of Tuttle Road, died Wednesday, October 27, 1999 due to injuries he received in a logging accident. He was born April 27, 1954 in Forsyth County to John Elmer (Junior) and Nellie Mae Kiser Stevens. Surviving are his mother, Nellie Kiser Lawson of the home; three sisters, Faye Shaw, Janice Hutchens, and husband, Jerry all of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Deborah Stevens of Walnut Cove; and one brother, Bobby Lawson and wife, Heather of Walnut Cove. Funeral services will be held Saturday, october 30, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home Chapel, Elder Jimmy Lankford will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cedar Falls Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home in King and other times at his mother's home on Tuttle Road in Walnut Cove.

STEWART
Mr. Chester Lindsey (Check) Stewart, 74, of Stockton Street, died Wednesday at Forsyth Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Lara Greene officiating. Mr. Stewart was born in Stokes County, N.C., May 10, 1925 to Alexander Hendon and Ada Crews Stewart. He retired from the City of Winston-Salem with 30 years service, was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Germanton, and was a member of Moose Lodge #466. He touched many lives by his involvement and love of softball, square dancing, and bowling. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Miller Stewart on August 12, 1999. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. Surviving are one son, Jerry Wayne Stewart and his wife, Nancy Reary Stewart of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Katherine Stewart Nolen and her husband, Randy of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Christopher Rex Stewart of Winston-Salem; one step-grandson, Delmer Richard Lawson III of Winston-Salem; one sister, Ludie Stewart Fulk of King; and a number of nieces and nephews, and special close family friends, Skip and Pam Smothers. The family will receive friends at Voglers Main Street Chapel from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Friday and at other times can be reached at the home of Jerry and Nancy Stewart, 1985 Penny Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C.

WALKER
Billy Donald Walker, 67, of 3811 Southdale Ave., died Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at 6:06 p.m. at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was born May 12, 1932 in Davidson County a son of John Calvin and Verna Mae Snider Walker. He was retired from Frame Builders of Thomasville. He was married February 4, 1951 to Carolyn Head who survives of the home. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hoyt (Donna) Whisenhunt of Lexington, Ms. Barbara Whitaker of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Ronald (Connie) Jones of Davidson County, and Mrs. Michael (Bonnie) Keomanideth of Winston-Salem; three sons, Billy D. Walker and Danny W. Walker of the home, and Jerry D. Walker and his wife, Pam of Welcome; one sister, Mrs. Maxine Hulin of Denton; five brothers, Archie Walker of Lincolnton, Jerald Walker of Myrtle Beach, Jimmy Walker of Lowell, Arnold Walker of Thomasville, and Kenneth Walker of Winston-Salem; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Family Funeral Care Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Walker. Burial will be in Parlkawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will remain at the Family Funeral Care, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville and the family will be at the funeral home Friday from 7 until 9 p.m.

WILLARD
Mrs. Bertha Ledford Willard, 84, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday afternoon, October 27, 1999 at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born July 1, 1915 in Forsyth County to Irvin Eugene and Margaret Logan Ledford. Mr. Willard was a member of Waughtown Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, M.F. Willard, Sr. and a daughter, Peggy Wafford. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, M.F. Willard, Jr. and Brenda and Bobby Willard and Lorene; a sister, Bonnie Jean Harvey of Sanderson, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Michael, Steve, and Greg Willard, Sharon Hutchins, Cindy Togdon, Tamara Jent, and Dwight Wafford; and ten great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Noon Saturday in Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by Rev. Frank Shumate. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C S. Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.
