HIGH POINT — John Arthur Marsh Jr., 83, Presbyterian Home, Apt. 85, died Oct. 9, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was a native of High Point, son of the late John Arthur and Lucy Covington Marsh, attended High Point city schools, graduate of UNC Chapel Hill in 1937, degree in electrical engineering, member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Navy veteran, sea duty aboard the Carrier USS Yorktown, flight pilot instructor, member of Torpedo Squadron 5, member of first air group aboard the Yorktown, served in the Pacific Theatre as Lt. Commander, received distinguished Flying Cross and six air medals, Air Group Commander of the CVEG-60 Naval Air Reserve Training Unit, Norfolk, Va. from 1946 to 1948, partner in firm of Marsh-Armfield Inc. of High Point and Conover, served on board of directors of United Way, co-chairman of United Way Primary Gifts, Boy Scout Committee Man and institutional representative to the District Uwharrie Council Troop, member and treasurer of CrimeStoppers, member of several aviation organizations and past president of the Sportsman Pilots Association, vice president of board of directors of Emeritus of the Yorktown Association, member and former vestryman of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
