He was a native of High Point, son of the late Alford Plato and Lucy Frances Lyda Richie, brother of the late Lovera (Rusty) Richie Marley and Therman Lee Richie, grew up in Gastonia, charter member of the 82nd Airborne Division, served in World War II in Africa, Italy, Normandy, the Rhine land, Central Europe, earned six bronze stars and meritorious service awards, regional sales representative for A.B. Carter Inc., Gastonia, retired in 1982 after 32 years of service, part-time consultant for Textile Processing Research Inc. of Raleigh for more than 10 years.
