He was a native of Mebane, son of the late John A. and Mary Isley, husband of the late Sherry Isley, received a B.S. in geology from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Air Force veteran of World War II, served in India, retired Lieutenant Colonel from Air Force Reserve after 20 years of service, geologist, in 1950 became executive director of Gaston Industrial Diversification Commission for 25 years, member of Retired Officers Association, lifetime member of alumni club of University of North Carolina, member of Gaston Country Club, former Rotarian.

She was a native of Tryon, daughter of the late Thomas Satterwythe and Mary Jane Royster, wife of the late Edgar Harrison Goff, sister of the late Mary Royster Beam, Nannie Berthenia, Kathryn Jones, John Edwin and Theodore Satterwythe Royster Sr., graduated from Tryon High School and Catawba College, she and her sister Kathryn were the first two Gaston County woman to volunteer for World War II, served in WAVES the female branch of the Navy from 1942 to 1945, featured in Soldiers’ Stories, Bessemer City Elementary librarian for 20 years, elected media coordinator, voted Teacher of the Year and Woman of the Year, member Women’s Republican Party, Education Society Delta Kappa Gamma, Concord United Methodist Church, Bessemer City.
