GASTONIA - Lester P. Campbell, 83, died Nov. 27, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro. He was a native of Scotland County, son of the late Bruce P. and Bessie Campbell, worked for 50 years in automobile sales in Gastonia, beginning with the W.H. Wray Packard-Hudson Company and spent most of those years with the Powell Oldsmobile-Cadillac Company, also worked with Lewis Motors at the Gastonia Chrysler-Plymouth Company and at Gowen-Green Oldsmobile-Cadillac, member of the First United Methodist Church, enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.

BELMONT - Clarence Everett Stevens, Jr., 80, Belmont, died Nov. 27, 1999. He was a native of Detroit, son of the late Clarence E. and Mamie Smith Stevens, husband of the late Dorothy Minchin Stevens, retired following a career in manufacturing engineering, graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps in which he was a glider pilot involved in the southern invasion of France during WW II, member of the Lions Club and Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

He was a native of Wilmington, son of the late John W. and Mary Howard Fredericks, retired partner-operator of Gibson-Smith Realty Inc., Charlotte, member of First Presbyterian Church, Belmont, deacon and elder, active coordinator and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity program in Belmont, Army veteran of Korean era, graduate of New Hanover High School in 1953, attended N.C. State University on an athletic scholarship, graduated in 1958 with a degree in mechanical engingeering.
