SALISBURY — James "Howard" Moss, 81, 303 Wellington Hills Circle, died Dec. 9, 1999, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Ben and Maggie Robinson Moss, brother of the late Fred M. Moss and Mary Rucker, property manager for Willington Hills Condos, worked with Moss Rexall Drug, Gastonia, for 40 years, in the salvage business in DeLand, Fla., graduate of Belmont High School, Belmont, attended Belmont Abbey College, member of the First Baptist Church, Whitehead Bible Sunday school class, Gastonia Masonic Lodge No. 369 AF and AM, Order of the Eastern Star, helped organize the West Cramerton Baptist Church, past member of First Baptist Churches in Gastonia and DeLand.

She was a native of Clinton, S.C., daughter of the late Thomas J. and Frances Young Blalock, wife of the late James W. Moore, taught school in Lancaster and York County school districts, member of First Presbyterian Church, Thursday Afternoon Book Club, retired from York County Treasurer’s Office.

He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late John Robinson and Pearl Kimbro Riley, husband of the late Vaughty Lucille Riley, Navy veteran of World War II, retired from Seaboard Railroad where he worked in the shipping department for over 35 years, worked part-time at Bi-Lo Supermarket on Union Road, active member of First Baptist Church, where, along with his late wife, he was very active in the children’s nurseries.

CHARLOTTE - L.S. Stroupe Jr., 80, Southminster Retirement Community, formerly of Cherryville, died Dec. 9, 1999. He was a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., son of the late L.S. "Doc" Sr. and Mary Essie Bridges Stroupe, husband of the late Barbara Hill Stroupe, one of eight children, grew up in Cherryville, 1936 graduate of Cherryville High School, veteran of Army Medical Corps, served in Alaska during World War II, cryptanalyst with Armed Forces Security Agency, Arlington, Va., attended George Washington University, Washington, D.C., 1952 graduate with a degree from the School of Pharmacy, pharmacist with People’s Drug Company, Washington area, before returning to North Carolina, during the 1950s and 1960s co-owned and operated Stroupe Drug Company, Kings Mountain, in 1965 formed Piedmont Clinic of Lawndale with the late Dr. Richard Maybin, were partners for more than 25 years, active member and Elder Emeritus of First Presbyterian Church, Cherryville, resident of Southminster Retirement Community for the last five years.
