She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Miles Hoffman and Rubye Dent Rhyne, graduate of Gastonia High School and Belmont Abbey College, did post-graduate studies at UNC Chapel Hill, University of California-Los Angeles and Oxford University, received master’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, former faculty member of the English Department at Sacred Heart College, active member for many years at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Gastonia, will be rememberd as a beautiful and outstanding drum majorette in high school, an accomplished pianist, respected and dedicated English professor, ardent tennis fan and player, devout member of St. Mark’s Church, loyal friend, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
