She was a native of Rock Hill, S.C., daughter of the late Buist Somers and Linnie Gray Rogers Collins, sister of the late Somers and Ernest Collins, Grace Ferguson, Ola Parrish, Helen Wheeler, 1935 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, received bachelors from Asheville Teachers College in 1939, had long career in elementary education, taught in Cherryville, Delmar, N.Y., Rock Hill, S.C., Marrietta, Ohio, and Chestertown, Md., worked at Ogden, Utah, Air Force Base in personnel department during World War II, completed masters in guidance counseling at SUNY Plattsburgh in 1964, taught at Campus School, SUNY Plattsburgh, guidance counselor at Peru Central School and Dannemora Free School, retired in 1974, member of Trinity Episcopl Church, various professional associations in reading, guidance and education, community volunteer, active in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts of America, member of Ivy Home Dem Group of SUNY Plattsburgh and Home Bureau.
