DALLAS — Sgt. Charles Wilbur "Charlie" Hanna Jr., 42, 303 Lewis St., died Dec. 17, 1999, at home.
He was a native of Gastonia, son of the late Charles Wilbur Sr. and Geraldine Elmore Hanna, Ashbrook High School graduate, 20-year veteran of the Gastonia Police Department, completed basic law enforcement training at Gaston College, earned Advanced Law Enforcement Certification from the North Carolina Justice Academy, served one year with the tactical team and as detective, received Police Star for Gallantry in 1996 for alerting others to a robbery in progress, resulting in the arrest of suspects after a rash of convenience store robberies, received Lifesaving Medal, the department’s seventh highest award, received Chief’s Achievement Award for helping to develop the K-9 program, former member of First ARP Church, present member of Dallas Foursquare Gospel Church.
